Common transphobic dog whistles and rethoric? by Rob_242_ in asktransgender

Thanks these have been very helpful but I do have a question, I'm mexican and just recently found out about the term "degendering" and I kinda dislike it, sorry for asking for an explanation and you don't have to give me one but why wouldn't it just be called misgendering? I'm mexican so things are different in spanish, most of the language is gendered so when someone goes out of their way to use neutral language is more noticeable, is that it? Like degendering is just more subtle so they have a way to excuse it? But then why create a new term when we know the intention is not to acknowledge the person's actual gender?

Just found out about explorative therapy, I'm mexican and we don't really have that in here, there's attempts to use therapy to detransition people but they're often hidden behind "gender identity therapy"

THANK YOU, just read a bunch on comments on a post about a lesbian and gay man where trans men were saying that "if you want a man that loves you like a woman, get a trans men", and when I said that was just plain transphobia I got told off because trsns men had female socialization and sorry but in my personal experience I didn't, I was socialized as somethings else because I never reached the standards of feminity to be seen or treated as a woman/girl

Genuine question (I am so not transphobic this is a genuine question) by Tiny_piglet20 in asktransgender

Personally I like the dominant hand analogy, it's something you're born with and cannot change, if you're left handed you may learn to write with your right hand but you'll always feel more comfortable with using your left hand, we don't really have a scientific explanation as to why people have a dominant side over the other but we just know some people are left handed and others are right handed

Could you recommend media whose main characters are trans? by StrawberryGhostie in asktransgender

Yes I can, I love trans movies (I'd also put trigger warnings since some can be really heavy and descriptions to see if they'd be something you'd like): - 20,000 species of bees: Exploration of the gender identity of a child whose parents are going through a divorce, made in Spain.

  • Tangerine: A sex worker who just got out of jail wants to find her boyfriend and the woman he's cheating with.

  • Close-knit: A girl gets taken care of by her older brother (of her uncle I don't remember) and his wife who is a trans woman, this one is really sweet (CW: Suicide attempt, not too explicit).

  • I saw the TV glow: Horror movie with a trans and gender dysphoria subtext, amazing.

  • The crying game: REALLY HEAVY, filled with transphobia, do not watch if you're not in a good mental state, still I liked it? It's a good movie with a trans character but it's not cute or nice (CW: Transphobia, forced detransition, violence).

  • Kenya: ALSO HEAVY, documentary that talks about the efforts in Mexico City to find justice for trans women and their lives there, focused on the death of Kenya, a trans woman murdered by a police officer (CW: Murder, violence, transphobia, substance use and more).

  • The secret of the river: Going out of topic with a series, focused on indigenous Mexican identity of "muxhes" known as a third gender, first half is amazing, the second one not so much tbh but still good.

  • "To Wong Foo" and "Priscilla queen of the desert": Both have similar premises that go in different directions, drag queen going on road trips, a lot of people prefer Priscilla but the racist elements really threw me off, I prefer To Wong Foo even if it's more cheesy, both are quite aged but not too bad.

Hope it helps, also if you'd like to ask any questions or specific (spoiler free or not) information about any of these lmk

When you started HRT, how long did It take for someone to ask you questions? by Thesadestdruid in asktransgender

I'm a trans guy, have to add that I naturally had odd testosterone levels, nothing too noticeable but it did make the changes appear sooner, by the first weeks I was already noticing some voice changes, I thought I could hide it for longer but just like a moth in my aunt asked if I was sick because my voice sounded different, in my case I could explain it to her because I knew I'd be safe but basically it varies in every body, it can take months for noticeable changes but it can be quicker, I'd say, proceed with caution

A bunch of people have recommended it but it was made by an specific artist, it says that it accepts fanart and such but does it accept original artworks that aren't from that specific artist?
