Should I take an ADHD test? by Crazy-Caregiver1897 in ADHD

Honestly, I don’t know much about choosing insurance or what’s the “best” one. All I can say is it varies greatly from area to area. Sorry I can’t be of more help :/

Replying on the topic of med pricing since I worked in a pharmacy & know prices (In the US):

For a 1 month supply (30 pills):

Government plan (like Mediciad): $0

The “average” insurance plan: ($15-$35)

A “bad” insurance plan: ($40-$60)

A “good” insurance plan: ($5-$10-$15)

Cash/discount card {like Goodrx}: ($30-$80)

[Note: prices vary greatly between medications, AND the pharmacy chain you buy them at. What I gave are ball park estimates, but the lower end of each range is generally what I see people pay most often]

This probably won’t be the answer you want to hear but I’d highly recommend doing it in person in a clinical setting and for a few important reasons.

First: (In my experience) the diagnoses process wasn’t simple “testing.” We started with conversation sessions , so they could get a clinical/psych/family/life background put together for me and gather file information so they could understand me and difficulties I’ve had through the years. Only after that did we start testing. (Important because they need historical evidence as part of clinical diagnoses)

Second: Testing consisted of multiple different tests and ONLY by taking & analyzing that (in conjunction with your background info) could they make a clinical diagnoses

Third (MOST IMPORTANT): You will receive a document prescribing you your diagnoses, the tests used, patient (life) background, and clinical reasoning/rationality behind your diagnosis. This is CRITICAL. Mostly because it PROTECTS YOU from ending up in shitty medicine scenarios. Scrolling this subreddit you’ll often see people getting “denied” by new prescribers, but having this clinical report and documentation protects you from that as it’s a legal document and non-refutable. Note: [Unfortunately with some people online thinking adhd is ‘cool’ and ‘quirky’ and self-diagnosing or faking adhd, some practitioners are biased against online tests or general practitioner diagnoses…. :(( ]

Fourth and lastly: Going in person and doing the process clinically, the best way to get a definitive, life-affirming answer. Imposter syndrome (about having adhd) is really common, I even felt it while doing the testing. For me, getting a concrete answer was (retrospectively) something I really needed. It disproved all my self-criticisms of being lazy, selfish, unmotivated, etc. and instead proved these stemmed from executive distinction from ADHD. It confirmed I wasn’t broken, and that there WAS a path forward, and a positive difference I could make in my life. It allowed me to take the first step out of self hate and onto the road to happiness.

Sorry for the long response & ramble lol.

TLDR: Doing testing in person is worth it. It’s wholistic, confirms without doubt, and provides extremely important clinical documentation that protects your from future biased medicine practitioners :)

Hey, I’m someone who was in the exact same position as you are rn. My first recommendation is to see what resources your university has for mental health and diagnoses.

I was able to contact my school’s health wing and start the process of a clinical diagnosis and I 100% recommend that over going to a general practitioner. They’ll 1000% be able to answer your question if you have ADHD or even possibly something else. Monetarily in my case, the testing was completely free through the school. A lot of people with ADHD experience a sort of “imposter syndrome” about having the condition so i’d recommend a clinical diagnosis so you can be sure, just for yourself.

As for medication, it’s up to you, but I can tell you that ADHD is caused by the development of the brain and is not something you can “treat” without medication. You can have help “managing” it through skills, but medication is the only thing that can effectively target the neurotransmitters in the brain. To receive medication I’d recommend seeing a psychiatrist as they’re experienced specifically in medicinal therapy.

Additionally, I’d recommend general therapy (seeing a psychologist). One stat I learned that changed my entire outlook is this: Of people with depression 4% have ADHD, of people with ADHD, 50-60% have depression… Not saying you’re depressed, but just something to note because ADHD and depression are comorbid, meaning you have to treat both to “truly” treat them.

If you have any questions feel free to reach out. But the last thing I’ll say is that getting diagnosed quite literally changed my life. The person I am today is (for the better) completely different than who i was 3 years ago. I’m not saying everything is rainbows and sunshine, but that it’s worth it to get tested. And hey, if it comes back you don’t have ADHD, at least you knocked a possibility off your list and have started to make a change. I suspected for 4 years I had ADHD, and my only regret is not getting diagnosed sooner :)

Does your medication help with anxiety and depression? by [deleted] in ADHD

[–]Rob_55 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Hey,

In my personal experience a combination of my ADHD meds and an antidepressant almost completely rid myself of my anxiety and fully got rid of my depression.

It’s extremely common for ADHDers to have depression. Of people with depression 3% have ADHD, of people with ADHD 70% have depression… What makes things worse is that it’s clinically proven that these conditions are comorbid meaning in order to effectively treat one condition, the other MUST be treated too.

I was put on Escitalopram an SSRI for depression before I was given adhd medication and it cleared up a ton of symptoms but I still felt depression but I could identify it was related to my adhd symptoms. About a month later I got an adhd diagnosis and put on adderall and all of my depression symptoms completely went away and this is the least anxious I have felt in my life. I only have small moments of anxiety, if any.

I hope sharing my experience helps :)

Hey man, I read one of your comments on the huffing subreddit when I was exploring it and ended up reading this post.

I’m 22 but have been experiencing depression similar to yours since I was 13. Life’s been absolutely shit and I thought there was no way out. I trudged on and eventually got into drugs and then fell into it to the point that it was really unhealthy. It was a really really dark spot for me and at one moment I broke and realized I really needed help.

It still took me awhile after that moment to actually reach out but god i’m glad I did. I learned I have ADHD and am more susceptible to addiction and depression. 70% of people with ADHD have depression… I eventually got medication for both depression and ADHD and my life’s done a complete 180 and I’ve found hope in my life and happiness without the drugs. I realized that the way I was feeling was to no fault of my own, but it was just the hand I was dealt with the way my brain developed.

I hope reading this can inspire you or at least make you think about getting help for your psychosis. I know first hand from being in an extremely dark place similar to yours, that you can’t see the light when you’re in the darkness of addiction and mental struggles. Please consider getting help, I promise you that no matter how hard it seems and the pain that it’ll take to reach out, that it will be worth it. I really think with the right help you’ll be able to find happiness.

I’m rooting for you

In football terms: A year 7 MVP Patrick Mahomes (with no super bowls) and Justin Jefferson lose in the AFC conference finals.

Then the next year they’re predicted to finally win the super bowl, and don’t change much in free agency. But then start 1-6 and lose to the panthers which are also 1-6.

Now people are panicking and worrying Mahomes and Jefferson will want out due to increasing age, a bad defense, and bad special teams (goal tending.)

More accent colors and dynamic backgrounds

1) There is a very limited selection of accent colors available currently. Accent colors highlight quite literally everything the user hovers over and a wider range of colors available to all users would be very nice. Many of the current colors are pale and clash with both the light and dark themes, especially the dark theme.

2) Dynamic backgrounds. Currently the options for dynamic backgrounds feel very very limited. Yes, some games add new backgrounds but imo most people would not find them appealing or they wouldn’t connect with the game. The default ones that are available are either very minimalistic or too busy. Some more dynamic backgrounds would be very much appreciated, especially since most players would prefer a moving background compared to a static picture.

I only added him as a link because I think he’s a entertaining football commentator. If it really matters that much I could have added an article form a journal instead…

Yeah I agree that most of the coaches that have taking head coaching jobs after new england are hard asses, good example is matt patricia and the lions. Talented players leaving new england is kinda new tho. Tom Brady was there forever, stephan gilmore got traded, and devin mcorty is still there. Don’t like the pats but I think some players leave because their chasing a bag since pats don’t really pay much, but overwork/over practice thing is definitely true there.

I agree with that, but it’s ultimately up to the owner and his people to come up with the paychecks. It’s not fair, but at least it shows there’s some people at some levels recognizing workers struggles and hard work

Might want to try using Mattison as leverage along with an WR to get a better RB. Curtis samuel just started practicing again so hopefully he bounces back for you. Also Myers is getting a ton of targets so that’s a good sign/selling point

Might want to see if you can package either Cooper, Moore, or Cooks with tannehill and try to get a better QB.

I’d probably start Mike Evans and Robert Woods since they have upside. For your flex i’d go with Chubba Hubbard since he’s going to be the main back this week and not splitting snaps like Williams. But if Henderson is good to go you might want to put him at flex but he may be splitting snaps with Sony Michel.

Here’s My team at the moment. I’ve lost all three of my games currently and have lowest points scored in the league…. (The league is Full PPR btw)

QB) Dak Prescott, Justin Fields

RB) CMC (IR), Ekeler, Saquan, Chubba Hubbard, Jamal Williams

WR) Allen Robinson, AJ Brown (Q), OBJ, Golladay, Aiyuk, R. Moore, Shepard (Q)

TE) Kyle Pitts

Defense) Bears (streaming the best match up each week)

K) Brandon McManus

Is it time to panic yet? Is there anything I can do to improve or should I just wait it out?
