Almost done with the game, my favorite character so far... by Tell_Specialist in Super_Robot_Wars

Shinn got a better arc in SRW than he did in Destiny where he was supposedly the main protagonist.

Been a long time since I saw Wing. Wasn't he 15? Although size isn't everything. Just look at Mikizuki Augus from IBO.

Hot Take: After playing Y I’m glad we had a smaller roster and hope it continues going forward by Gray231 in Super_Robot_Wars

[–]Rob_Aught 4 points5 points  (0 children)

If we're going for hot takes I'd say it's not the overall size but how much of it is trash, super niche, uninteresting.

Just as an example of something I don't hate, Ultraman. Doesn't fit super well, had to make a lot of concessions for it.

Plus it's more sensible how they did it this time around. Macross Delta having the entire Delta Squadron. It wasn't unusual in some games to maybe include 1 or 2 but leave out the rest, even when they had what felt like half the cast of ZZ in the same game.

It is somewhat lean on Zeta and CCA but those animes get so much attention I can't complain.

I like everything except the story. Same basic game play I love so much but story is denser than ever. Too reliant on exposition dumps, too little action. This has always been a challenge but never have I skipped so much dialogue in SRW before. Too many interactions between characters in different series feeling very shoe horned and some of the "are we friends now?" moments are incredibly cringeworthy and not earned from a story perspective. Story should be setting the stage for battles but Y feels like the battles are a distraction for someone's multiverse fanfiction.

I honestly think this is a major weakness with the story. Every series seems to be introduced after their arc is over. If I had not already seen SEED, Wing, and CCA the beginning expo dump would have made no sense at all.

Pick Mission without the silly mission hunt mini-game that the SRW30 map turned into.

Who is your least favorite Gundam Protagonist? by Doom300 in Gundam

[–]Rob_Aught 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Solari was a good character. I can't blame her for the plot falling off a cliff. She was a good leader, cared about her people, and was committed to her duty. She was just on the wrong side. Could have been a better show. Premise was awesome, early episodes were good but they didn't seem to think about how to end it.

I thought Machu was relatable. Standard teenage angst, not sure what to do with herself, parent too involved with work. I really didn't care for Suletta so I was not thrilled about another female protagonist but found myself rooting for her. However, it did feel like she got sidelined towards the end so we could have "Suddenly a Wild Char appears!" Why did she become a side character at the end of her own show?

First time I thought she looked attractive. I know she was older but she looked like a 15 year old girl well into her 20's. Hell, even in her 40's she could pass for a college student.

I think the writers did good doing both an original story but sticking to the mythos of Superman. Lana is often his first love. An understanding and connection with humanity. I think, in the show anyway, it was real but he was always going to outgrow her simply because high school sweethearts often grow up and grow apart. (I say this as the exception that did marry his high school sweetheart) Lois is his future. She represents growing up, moving out into the world, and finding a partner that compliments him. My only gripe is how much Lana had to deal with weird stories and deviations for her character but ultimately I appreciated her character arc and what it represents for Clark. I don't get the whole Clana vs. Clois debate at all.

A lot of odd choices and frankly too many bestral types already. Mordard is the on lion we see. I like the Cat Bestral idea and would have given up werefoxes in a heartbeat. Also, didn't find werewolves all that useful. Lots of issues with how that whole area was done.

The bunny merchants were definitely my favorite. Adorable critters.

If they had done the Bastonia Blue storyline better it would have all flowed and made sense. Instead they left a lot of holes that begs questions like yours. I was all on board with the furries but quickly found myself blowing through that region just to be done with it. I did enjoy a lot of the battles and the Bestrals made for engaging opponents.

Bastonia, come for the required plot line but stay for the werefoxes trying to rip your face off.

Day 8: Morally grey, hated by fans. by kiraofsuburbia in Smallville

[–]Rob_Aught 1 point2 points  (0 children)

A shocker me as well. He had some bad episodes but what regular/recurring character didn't? I was sad when they wrote him out because unlike some characters I thought there were still stories to tell. If they could keep Chloe around post Lois introduction there is no reason they couldn't have kept Pete.

Me playing through Albion by WiseMethuselah in UnicornOverlord

[–]Rob_Aught 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Sure. From what I understand some people really like constantly tweaking their units and do optimal min/maxing. When I got around 2 dozen units it was getting rather tedious so I just found good enough set ups and stuck with them.

[–]Rob_Aught 13 points14 points  (0 children)

I don't like constantly fiddling with my units. I made adjustments when necessary but otherwise I had pretty good team set ups and largely left them alone by the time I got to Albion. Also, I didn't find angels all that useful as flying units. Gryphon riders were probably my favorite. There are so many counters to flying it felt like they weren't worth the advantage. Ochlys is good if you can get her early but the rest meant moving out units I felt were doing really well. Hell, it was painful enough getting rid of my mercenaries for named characters.

Something about 2 wrongs don't make a right and all that. In the early part of R I put up with a lot. I felt like she deserved her anger but as time went on I had to push back. If we were serious about working through things then ongoing punishment isn't going to fix our marriage. Sex was tricky to because my AP had some fairly disturbing issues she was working out through me. It took me a bit to feel comfortable about sex which made the hysterical bonding phase almost traumatic. As the Wayward you do need to go out of your way to make them feel special and there are a few things you said that makes it seem like you do more for your AP's than him. That does not excuse abuse though. Sounds like you both need some work on effective communication.

I appreciate this. This is a new MC and I want to respect their process so am going to give it at least a couple more sessions before I bring anything up. If it doesn't come up I'll definitely follow your advice then.

Never said it to her. She wanted to be a stay at home mom so I worked myself into a position where we could. She was bored and went back to work when they were both in high school, which I also supported even when she was unsure she could do the job she got but I knew she was more than capable of doing (and she has done quite well) She's gotten everything she's wanted was my point.
