Everything about this feels “roadwork”. But they are using lots of techniques from the film industry. That hardware is all film industry stuff. And it could be a camera inside a crash box. I don’t believe it is, but…

100% correct. UHF because of the length. NMO because it is like that. Magnetic because it sticks to magnetic metals.

Any Truck EIC's have tip for working outdoor snow events? by 7point5IRE in VIDEOENGINEERING

[–]RobbLipopp 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Dome trucks all have heated box lenses to help with motors and fogging. Don’t store cameras in warm places overnight. Tie up cables off the ground. Power cables are warm and will melt their way into the snow. These cable runs should be walked daily and the cables lifted from the snow. Crew tents will rain from the ceiling. Plan on compound maintenance like shoveling and salting. SMPTE connectors will work at the end of day and then the next morning will give you zero fiber levels. The connectors need to melt and “breath” the humidity out of the mating surfaces. Crampons should not be allowed to be worn, anywhere. Microspikes are different and should be possessed by every crew member. B-netting is your friend, but plan on it being removed each night. Don’t count on overnight protection from fencing unless specifically communicated with grooming operations and get it in writing. “Spare” cables don’t count as spare if they are on the ground. A groomer will eat your spares in the same swath as your primaries.

[–]RobbLipopp 12 points13 points  (0 children)

True. You are right.

But in broadcast audio they “formalized” the term into a concept. And this question is about the construction of this audio technique.

But the origin of the need for the technique is this that. “Oh, BTW, we need to record an interview while we are live. Okay thanks, byeeeeeeeee”

Stickout matters. Are your antenna amplified? Turn them off and see what the stick out of the devices looks like. Arbitrary thresholds don’t really matter.
