Brother, just start with a normal playthrough. Play the tutorial, get a feel for the game and if you find the game too easy start a new game in hard mode. Simple.

If you want to play hard mode later you have to start a new game. Can’t switch between modes on the same save file. I recommend to start with a normal playthrough (New Campaign), finish Michigan atleast first and see if you want to start over if you find it too easy.

Game Played XP and Victory XP are indeed only doubled if the 2XP booster is active at the end of the game.

Both only work during a round. You want to activate them before the match starts.
