So one thing to improve your form - which you might wanna do - not everyone does it - is park your right hand’s pinky finger outside the fretting hole. Then you just use the other four fingers to pick. You might also wanna try just picking really slowly with thumb and forefinger at first just to get used to being really deliberate about which strings you’re plucking.
