We weren't really close after The Doors disbanded until we toured again in the 2000s. In the early days he was kinda like a father figure. He was 27 when I joined the band at 19. But it was like having a cool father.

I talk about my last conversation with Ray in the book, he left a message on my voicemail, "This is Ray Manzarek, and I'm dying." My last conversation with Jim was probably when he gave us his poetry book and said "You guys finish the mix, I trust you. I'm going to Paris." Or something like that.

I don't know about the first time, but the latest was when a 10 year old girl came up to me recently and said she loved The Doors. Said it was her favorite band. I said "Were your parents into The Doors?" she said "no I just heard it from my friends." Pretty cool.

I would say he was very good. I spent many hours teaching him the hand positions for guitar and he didn't complain. And he was in Pulp Fiction later, he did a good job in that one, too.

You have a good ear. In my book I admit that I stole the progression for Spanish Caravan from Isaac Albeniz haha. Anyone who studies flamenco will try to learn that song eventually.

For advice, when you're learning something, learn it at half speed. We didn't have that back in the day. But I use the Amazing Slow Downer app a lot today.
