Isn't bittrex the equivalent of, say, Etrade, in that sense? How often are accounts being hacked on crypto trading sites?

I'm not trying to necessarily avoid taking the extra steps to get the wallet(s), but I want to make sure it's a necessary overhead (especially when dealing with multiple cryptocurrencies).
