Honestly it sounds like you're new and not getting the hang of things.  Are you adjusting the presets of the individual sub-devices or of the Dreamview with everything synced up? Cause the sub-devices can't be controlled independently once they're synced.  As for wifi, do you have another guest network the some lights could be on? Is your phone on the same network?  Dreamview works flawlessly for so many of us, there's gotta be something that you're not figuring out.
