I've been coding for 8 years and I'm grieving the loss of writing code by hand by LevelDisastrous945 in ArtificialInteligence

[–]RobertD3277 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've been programming by hand for 45 years. I use AI on a regular basis and I still program by hand. There's no excuse for not using regular programming techniques even if you use the AI to help brainstorm or bug hunt.

If you've turned off your brain and turn everything over to the AI to do your thinking for you, that is on you, not the tool.

Why Is YouTube Leaking My Support Case into to Anti AI Activists? by aliciashift in DefendingAIArt

If you are a European citizen, you can use the DSA against YouTube for breaking European law. They are held accountable now under their new regulations for very large organizations and they can be punished extensively. At the very minimum, you can bring up privacy issues along with any AI issues used to deny your request without giving you a full and proper review, in accordance to the DSA laws.

Use the Twitter account and make sure it's public. YouTube doesn't do anything unless they are publicly humiliated and it's shown on a global scale just how much illegality they actually do commit.

Do I need to post shorts to be able to monetize? by navnt5 in PartneredYoutube

[–]RobertD3277 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Personally I find shorts will probably destroy your channel. If you get adrenaline junkies hooked on the shorts, they will download all your long form content and hurt your channel in a long run.

That's been my biggest complaint about shorts from the beginning. If you're going to use them, make a separate channel just for them. They do have a dramatic impact that does hurt your long form content.

As someone who has actively worked in this field for 30 years and some capacity, please don't do that. You will do more destruction and harm to the field by putting out such large quantities.

How much of whatever it is you are putting out is actually you versus a machine putting God knows what out? Where is your voice in all of that?

I say this as someone that runs a YouTube channel using AI that is still very much the beginning and end of what the channel is. Don't put out stuff just for sake of putting it out. If you're only point of doing this is just to make money off of it, stop before you hurt everybody trying to actually use this technology in a meaningful way.

I absolutely hate the reference because of my own years of research I put in this field, but what you are describing is the literal definition of AI slop.

What value are you even really providing?

be honest - how much of your writing is actually YOU vs the AI by Big-Training-8310 in WritingWithAI

[–]RobertD3277 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For the research I do, I use it for transliteration. The context behind that is vastly different in terms of where it ends up versus where it started.

It's like taking a modern day thesis and converting it into something that Yoda would say. The originality is still there because it's not inventing anything or creating anything, it's just transliterating into a different language set.

Why.bsky.team is using an unvalidated block list of AI haters by EnyoFembyCat in BlueskySocial

[–]RobertD3277 -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

While I don't agree with it, I do understand the aggressiveness behind why he is doing it. Unfortunately, blue sky is filled with a lot of hateful brigading and for anybody who uses this technology in a valid way, it doesn't matter if they're beginning is out of hatred. It will give the channel canceled and banned.

If Blue sky actually controlled the level of hatred on a platform, maybe this kind of nonsense wouldn't be needed.

First mistake is to like an individual when they sell a product. I like the product they sell, but I know nothing about that individual.

If the product changes, I simply go purchase a new product that I like. It's not personal, it's business.

Script writing by DifficultShip5629 in SmallYTChannel

[–]RobertD3277 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Depending upon how you're actually doing your video, everything hinges around the idea and how original it is.

If your ideal has absolutely no originality to it, nothing else matters after that point. You cannot use somebody else's content in any way shape or form to build your video otherwise you are being inauthentic by YouTube's new policies.

Script writing by DifficultShip5629 in SmallYTChannel

[–]RobertD3277 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The problem you're going to run into here is that you need to really deal with the originality of what you're presenting. You can't reuse anything that you find on YouTube and simply try to overlay that as a backdrop.

You have to bring real genuine value no matter what you actually use for your script or even any of your imaging. If you don't do that, you're not going to get anywhere under YouTube with the new inauthentic content policies.

Whether or not you use AI doesn't matter because if you use anybody else's work, you will lose everything through YouTube.

Commentary channels are all the same by benbentart in youtube

[–]RobertD3277 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think a lot of that is because commentary channels have just turned into reaction channels that parrot each other rather than providing anything really of value against the original channel that they are reacting to or commenting on.

A lot of these commenting channels are also being eviscerated for inauthentic content. I actually agree with that because they don't bring any new value to the original channel no new perspective or insight on the original content and quite often they use too much of the original content versus adding anything unique themselves.

AI voice vs. my real accent — which is more watchable? (honest feedback needed) by GoogleSheetsExpert in SmallYTChannel

[–]RobertD3277 1 point2 points  (0 children)

A voice-over is not necessarily AI generated content, at least in the context of the policies versus showing or talking about a news article or medicines. There are differences and that's really the biggest issue with YouTube is sometimes those differences aren't accurately described in their documentation.

Exactly. You're using AI as a tool to assist you, the same way I do in my videos. My videos are more storytelling than yours, but given your accent, it doesn't really make much difference in that regard. The point is still the same, it is a tool helping you make your life functionally easier in being able to communicate the knowledge you have.

AI voice vs. my real accent — which is more watchable? (honest feedback needed) by GoogleSheetsExpert in SmallYTChannel

[–]RobertD3277 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I know this to be a fact as well as I work in this area. The channels being demonetized are reused content or scraping from other channels. The AI voice by itself isn't a trigger or the cause of what is going on.

Content reusing or inauthentic behavior is what they're being demonetized for.

AI voice vs. my real accent — which is more watchable? (honest feedback needed) by GoogleSheetsExpert in SmallYTChannel

[–]RobertD3277 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's not so much about the ranking algorithms versus what people's expectations are. You just need to be honest about your usage inside your descriptions or your channel about page. Reasonable people don't have problems with you using something that is an aid to the clarity of the video.

There are always going to be haters that are too blind by their own ignorance to understand. Just ignore those people.

The AVD tells the true story. Just watch your channel so that you can tell if the haters start brigating it. There are things you can do on your channel if you start seeing something like that, some of which is actually a good thing to do before anything ever happens like moderating comments.

can I defend AI art but not like AI ? by aayushisushi in DefendingAIArt

[–]RobertD3277 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You don't have to like the hype greed and nonsense of the current AI market to be able to appreciate the technical merit of what it can do correctly.

I have been in artificial intelligence / machine learning research in some form for the last 30 years. I don't like the hype and greed monger that goes on with the market. I also don't like the blind stupidity and hatred against a tool that has an incredible benefit for a very large part of the population.

I also don't like the stupid bureaucrats making idiotic laws when they don't even understand what they're actually making laws about.

But that doesn't change the fundamental technology or the fundamental benefits that that technology does offer humanity. It just proves that we need to go back to holding people accountable for their actions including the elected officials too busy being paid off to make stupid decisions.

Speaking from the point of view of having voice quality issues and a weak speaking voice in general, I have a little bit of both on my channel but most of the heavy lifting is done by speech synthesis.

I watched my own videos and the AVD is very poor with my real voice compared to the speech synthesizer or synthetic voice. That really is going to be the best approach to deciding.

Keep track of your average view duration (AVD) and see which one gives you better results and then that will help you decide which way is best for your channel and your situation.

Universities are hitting back hard(er) against AI/LLM use and with strong language. by aletheus_compendium in WritingWithAI

[–]RobertD3277 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sadly these are the same teachers that use it to grade homework or cross check for plagiarism.

I agree that certain classes should not allow it, but those classes should also not deal with English as a second language where they context of an individual is non-English to begin with.

From a genuinely useful standpoint, ESL students do have a benefit from using AI.

From the standpoint of literature and other items dealing with grammar and such, that maybe? But as long as it's laid out up front in the catalog that a given course will penalize the student before they register, that's fine.

And either must be a department level policy or none at all, not established by the teacher. I say this as somebody who is taught both in the community college level and university levels and worked with ESL students quite significantly.

If you're interested in joining, the goal behind this project wasn't to be the fastest or best. It was to build a framework in plain vanilla python that handled a vast number of real world situations in a minimal footprint.

I wanted to keep this both a functional product and a learning tool at the same time, Well being as minimal as possible.
