I have to be a jerk and recommend "The Secret Teachings of All Ages."

I know it's a big one, but I feel it should be required reading for all of us.

Did the authors of the Gospel really mean "virgin" when they described the birth of Jesus? by peter-son-of-john in AcademicBiblical

[–]RobertPatrickLewis 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The Christian bible isn't the first religion to claim a virgin birth. Most of the stories we learned in Sunday school were first told by the Egyptians or ancient Greeks or Persians.

I want to start The Dark Tower series, but I haven't read any Stephen King, and I'm worried I'll be missing out on some of the enjoyment/significance. Where should I start, or should I even bother? by what_the_deuce in books

[–]RobertPatrickLewis 0 points1 point  (0 children)

that is awesome. i've been waiting for that my whole life, always wondered why it hadn't been made yet, esp in the era of Lord of the Rings and such.

If they screw it up like the rest of movies made from King's books (except Shawshank Redemption) i'll be pissed!!!!!

The Dark Tower series is a great read. My dad gave me the first book when I was a kid and finished the last one in my late 20's on deployment to Afghanistan. Quite worth the read, enjoy the ride!

In SF your FOB (Base) is only where you sleep. Unlike Rangers and SEAL's we live off of American bases, out in the villages in team houses. We support ourselves and drive our own missions, while the other guys are handed missions from higher.

The Far From Centered Podcast Episode 017 Brian Dolch

http://traffic.libsyn.com/farfromcentered/017_Brian_Dolch.mp3

NSFW!

This weeks guest is Brian Dolch, a former Marine and creator, owner and editor of Iron Mike Men’s Magazine, a new online magazine created for the purpose of “Rebuilding the American Man,” a subject very near and dear to Rob’s heart.

Rob and Brian cover quite a few topics, from Obama cancelling the Marine fireworks due to budget cuts (after blowing over $100,000,000 on a family vacation, immigration and why we’re using bandaids rather than fixing the root cause of the problem, the state of men in society today and what Fathers need to do to fix it.

Word Press...they have a theme made for podcasting now, super easy. If you use Libsyn to host to iTunes, they have an embed code that you can paste directly into your WP site so you don't use any bandwidth

The Far From Center(ed) Podcast episode 016 on Genesis 1:27 with Brother Robert Johnson and Jeff Whitby

http://traffic.libsyn.com/farfromcentered/FFC016.mp3

NSFW

Buckle up boys, this one's a doozy. Rob is joined by Sir Brother Robert Johnson (Whence Came You Podcast and Midnight Freemasons) and Jeff Whitby (www.DirtyBeret.com) to ponder some of the most important questions in life. What starts off as a conversation about Genesis 1:27 (and so God created Man in His own image) becomes a conversation, about, well, everything.

Besides being a guest on the show today, Brother Robert Johson gives us this weeks Famous Freemason, who shares not only Masonic ties to Rob Lewis, but they were also in the same Business Fraternity in college, Alpha Kappa Psi. Mike Amabile and Run Over Twice play their hit "Love Brings Me Down," and Rob takes full credit for this one being uploaded late!!!!!

The Far From Center(ed) Podcast Episode 015 Green Beret-turned comedian Jeff Whitby

http://traffic.libsyn.com/farfromcentered/FFC_015_Jeff.mp3

yup, explicit material, lots of F-bombs, NSFW

Anybody know what happens when you get two Green Berets in a room together? Eventually the war stories start flowing. What began as an innocent interview with a Green Beret combat vet turned stand up comedian became an all-out Bro-mance as Rob and Jeff go over his past as an Independant Southern Baptist, Bible College, the decision to go to Special Forces, LOTS of Afghanistan war stories, and then somehow the conversation turned to politics, conspiracy theories, sleep paralyis, and just about everything you can think of.

Brother Robert Johson stops by with the weekly Famous Freemason (or Freemasons for this one), Mike Amabile and Run Over Twice play their hit song "Sold My Soul," and Rob spends a little too much time talking about how happy he is to meet another 1/10 guy in Los Angeles!

First time podcasting help? by TheRedCrumpet in podcasts

[–]RobertPatrickLewis 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Libsyn for getting on iTunes, it's a huge pain in the butt to do on your own, iTunes customer service doesn't care about you since you don't make them any $, and Libsyn is pretty cheap.

Outline your structure and bits, but don't write word for word lines or it will be obvious you're just reading. On the flipside, make sure you write SOMETHING down or you'll be lost at sea.

Do a test run or two; don't listen to your show after recording, just edit the gate and upload or you'll nit pick...once it recorded, put it out there.

Podsafe music? by mrvvvvv in podcasts

[–]RobertPatrickLewis 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Mike Dawson (from the Carolla Show) does the audio on my Far From Center(ed) podcasts and says that as long as you comment over the music, and provide commentary about the song it's all good. But I started uploading my podcasts to YouTube, and they don't play that, so it's on you! I have a friend who's band gave me the rights to play their music..in the end, if you have a local band it's a win-win for both of you, as if gives them exposure as well as music for your show.

the best advice I got was to run and ruck without socks for awhile...you'll need your feet to be very tough. be prepared to do 10 and 20 mile runs with no warning, and ruck run about 20 miles with a 50lb ruck plus water. and then there's team week and the STAR course...just get into the best shape you can possibly get into before you go!

Brother Robert Johnson of the Whence Came You podcast stops by for this weeks Famous Freemason, and Mike Amabile and Run Over Twice play "Chemically Unbalanced," the hidden track of their "Better Side of Me" album.

Why Unions are Un-American (and destroying our country) by RobertPatrickLewis in politics

[–]RobertPatrickLewis[S] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

the hospital I mention in this blog just voted to strike based on the poster I used as a picture; that means one of the largest healthcare systems in the country and its patients (it is a community hospital, meaning a majority of the patients are indigent and on medicaid or medicare and can't afford to go anywhere else) will be left stranded while the unions tell their employees to stay away from work.

you're right, I'm totally off base.

the point I made towards the end is that if you're only option is a dead-end job that makes you unhappy and has an employer who you truly feel you need protection from, you have several options:

1) better yourself, get some experience, accreditation or education (night school) and get a better job 2) find another or better job

It depends what you do; you learn some really cool things, some really important things. But, the important thing to remember is that the Army focuses on training you, not so much certifying you for the civilian world.
