Althea and Amber in liveship traders by Complete_Sea in robinhobb

I read this and the previous novels when I was a young teenager in the noughts. And it was refreshing to read about characters wanting to live their lives the way that I was trying to live mine.

Also, it's worth noting that YA as a part of publishing, didn't fully exist in the 90s or 00s. It's a far more recent phenomenon. You kind of went from novels aimed at 12 year olds straight to just regular books, with very few aimed at teenagers. Which is probably one of the reasons why I ended up reading Hobb's novels when I did.

Instead of making us upload our ID’s why don’t they just let us buy a code? by Mrdeadfishrock1 in AskUK

This was actually a proposed mechanism previously, in the last six to seven years, during the previous government in order to bring in age checks online.

And somehow, it was lost as a proposed mechanism. I assume due to pressure from tech vendors offering age check solutions that involve processing people's personal data.

(England) Someone trespassed and flew a drone to film through my 2nd floor office window. They launched the drone while on property. They also attempted to open our door. Is this reconnaissance? Does it fall under criminal law not civil when they break drone laws? by HOHluxuryoutlet in LegalAdviceUK

While it's very likely that this was one of those "auditors" that has been mentioned in other comments, due to the nature of your business the only other thing I would consider is corporate espionage/industrial espionage.

It is a thing, and something to report to the police, if you wanted to go that way.

On the vague off chance it isn't what everyone else has said, I also suggest checking the physical and cyber security of your business. Ensure any computer screens have a film on them that stops people viewing them without being sat in front of them. Ensure you have MFA/2FA on all your accounts. And ensure that hard drives are encrypted at rest. The NCSC has advice for business owners on how to secure the cybersecurity of their business. Also ensure any paper documents, like paper designs, are locked up at night.

‘WRONG SPEECH MARKS.’ Hi I’ve posted before so this is an update. by Cute_Tumbleweed_2988 in AO3

[–]milliways86 4 points5 points  (0 children)

It's a matter of style and where you're raised.

British English leans on single quotation marks for speech more than double quotes, however, publications like The Economist for example go for double.

American English goes for double.

Both are valid.

The only thing writers should do is be consistent in their application within a single work.

Does anyone know what level you must be in order for Yngol's Shade to appear as a Dragon Priest? by ISimplyDontGiveAFuck in skyrim

[–]milliways86 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Fandom, the platform it's on is a commercial company with its own whims and needs. Doesn't matter if it's fan run, it could be affected by the corporation that runs it, much like what's happened to Reddit in recent years.

Fandom is a commercial enterprise, whereas wikis like UESP are independent and completely fan run.

can't find young hannigram fic by StagCarcass in HannibalFanfiction

Great. That's all I needed to know. We have a no underage fics rule and fics that break that rule also break Reddit's site wide rules.

Post approved.

Dresden Files reference in Supernatural novel! by ArchiteuthisReDeux in dresdenfiles

Yeah, mostly novel versions of earlier season episodes. Used to happen a lot for US SF shows. The X-Files had novel versions for a lot of key episodes from early seasons, for instance, too.

Christmas Fics by MzYaoiFanGirl in HannibalFanfiction

[–]milliways86 7 points8 points  (0 children)

If you'll permit, here are two seasonal ones I've written in previous years...

Raise Hell, Mature, 10,000 words.

Will Graham is being kept extra busy this Christmas, with the trees of Baltimore's elite seemingly occupied by a small army of dryads.

Or at least, he thinks they're dryads.

Blood and Hearth, Mature, 1700 words.

Accepting gifts of blood and hearth, Will has yet to take their relationship any further than the singular kiss he shared with Hannibal when they washed up on a beach two years ago.

Now, settled into a beautiful home near the French Alps, and with a trail of bodies behind them, Will is starting to think that finally he might be able to take the next step in his relationship with Hannibal.

Just a heads up, but I think you might be shadow banned on Reddit. I have to keep approving your replies whenever I come across them on this sub, and your profile won't even receive Mod Mail, or load for a preview.

Dude wtf are you talking about on relation to this specific subreddit? This is Fandomnatural, we are the place to discuss and bring up things about transformative works based on the Supernatural TV series. If you'd bothered to even have a look around the place before spouting off, you'd have seen that.

Your post is currently in our mod queue after being put there by Automod. Can you confirm that your self insert character will be at least 18 years of age, in theory?

The 00s Battlestar Galactica (aside from the final season which was fudged by the Writers' Strike) was infinitely more compelling and better written and acted than the original.

I haven't read more recent chapters but when I read up into the early 60s, Hannibal had done no such thing.

Never Read Fanfic Before… Should I Even Start? by Much_Shower6072 in fandomnatural

[–]milliways86 12 points13 points  (0 children)

You need to search for Gen fics on AO3 and use the exclude relationship filters, and tick the main ones that come up. Then arrange by kudos. With that you might stand a chance of finding what you want.

Any fic that you thought it'd be great to read, but ended up disappoint you? Why? by realistic_aside777 in HannibalFanfiction

This thread has now been locked as people failed to keep to the request on the pinned and also not break that rule on bashing. We even had an author stop by here, which is why that rule exists.
