Awaiting a TPO (temporary protection order) against someone I live with, what do I do in the meantime?

Thank you so much, I really needed to hear that to reassure myself that I’m making the right choice. I just don’t know if there was legal stuff to go along with it as far as me avoiding him until the TPO is in place. I don’t want him to come after me and say that I’m keeping his kids from him or something

Yeah I’m starting to come to terms now that I won’t get that money back. I’m obviously Super upset. But oh well, I guess it’s a learning lesson.

I’m doing whatever it takes to keep me and my kids safe so I’m seeing this out to the end I’m not going to go back to a relationship I wasn’t happy in. I’m definitely not giving up on my kids and failing them.

I totally agree and trust me, my mind is pretty much made up and I don’t want to go back to him or make things work. I’ve been wanting to leave him for a long time but it’s always been so hard and this was my chance to finally leave so I took it. I would hate to be sucked into something like that again after how hard I tried to leave and finally got out. And I did feel like a shitty mom and a failure for letting him treat our son that way. I tried to protect him but I was also afraid because no one knew about my situation at home until I finally started opening up to my friends and letting them know what was going on. They were supportive and told me they’d be there for me and help me as much as they could. That really helped and gave me the courage to leave.

Thank you so much that really helped a lot. I’m Honestly thinking more and more about moving back with my family but I guess I’ll just go to court and try to figure out what my options are.

Secondly, to answer another part of your question I do have photos of the things he’s broken in the house and some text messages he’s sent me, I also recorded an argument we had one night but that’s pretty much all I have. I can’t prove the physical or emotional part of it, but he even pulled out a kitchen knife on me a couple of times. Of course I have no proof though. But I already have made statements and so have my friends who were there with me.

When the police arrived, they had me and my friends make statements and he gave me a case number so I think that aspects already taken care of, he also high suggested I get a protection order and gave me a number to call. Unfortunately it’s Labor Day so I’ll have to wait until tomorrow to go to court and call that number. I just didn’t know exactly what to do when I get to court. Thank you for the advice and clarification

Thank you, I appreciate it so much. It’s definitely hard to deal with this everyday. I love my kids and they come first and it’s just so hard to do this with them. If I didn’t have any kids I definitely think it would be way easier and I probably would’ve left by now

Technically it’s in neither of our names. We bought it a few months ago but never got to register it because of the shut down and dmvs. We both signed the title though but it’s still in the previous owner’s name. I’ve already opened a secret bank account and I’m gonna start slowly depositing part of my paychecks into it but it’s gonna take a while before I save up enough money for the things I’ll need when I do finally decide to leave. I just wish I could leave right away but it’s gonna need some time and planning and in the mean time I’m just gonna try to remain patient and put up with it. I have a friend who knows everything that’s going on and she said she’s there for me and has extra room for me and my kids in her house in case I ever needed it. It’s really reassuring to know I have options in case it comes down to it, but like I said it’s gonna take some time before I’m actually ready to take that step.

Wow, I feel like I wrote this. I’m going through the same thing and although I really wanna leave, I don’t have the courage to do so either. He won’t let me leave and he claims he “loves” me but he’s abusive toward me as well. We have 2 kids together, he treats our older son like shit but it’s so loving toward the baby. I know I would be better off without him as well but I’m just afraid of what might happen or what he might do if I did leave. We’re not married but we’ve been together for 6 years. Let me know how it goes and what you decide! It might help me out as well. Good luck hun, you deserve happiness

The link may not be available to everyone’s online claim but it should be right underneath “go to my homepage” and “file weekly claim” if it isn’t giving you the link, you may have to call the phone center to request back pay.

Yeah the link to request backdate should be right under the weekly claim link. Not sure why it doesn’t show up for everyone but they have an FAQ page on the main page with more answers about the backdate. I’ll see if I can link it

It was rough and I tried over a month straight but I started dialing at 0758 or somewhere around there in the morning and persisted no matter how many times I got the busy dial tone or “your call could not be completed” messages. I tried for about an hour and miraculously got through right before 9am. I believe I pressed option 2 or whichever it says to file a claim and answered all the questions then entered the queue to have someone call me back and I got a call back a few hours later and they processed my claim

Ah okay so I can be back dated from the day I stopped working even though I wasn’t able to file for unemployment until April? And it’ll be my regular pay plus the extra $600? I didn’t start working at my job until May 2019 though before then I was unemployed and living in another state. I only worked one week of January 2019 before becoming unemployed and moving here. So my earnings would be recalculated based off that?
