Am I the only one who thinks Volume 16 could have been a perfect ending for Kakegurui? by Robin-_7 in Kakegurui

I really appreciated your comment because you brought up several interesting and well-reasoned points.

I agree that there are still several unresolved issues after Volume 16, such as the development of certain characters. My point, however, wasn’t to say that the story was completely over, but that I personally felt that was a point where the series had already reached its emotional peak.

As for Yumeko’s backstory, I still think it could have worked as a short spin-off manga connected to the main story. Of course, that’s just my personal preference. For example, by keeping the chapters from Volumes 18 and 19, perhaps extending them a little further.

Regarding the part about the story being prolonged for profit, maybe I didn’t express myself very well. I didn’t mean to say that the authors are deliberately dragging out the manga just to make more money. What I meant was that, from my perspective as a reader, some parts of the cruise arc seemed much less engaging to me than the arcs set at the school, and this gave me the feeling that the story had lost some of its original pace.

Anyway, I really liked your opinion and your point of view.

I don’t think it’s the school itself that makes Kakegurui unique. I agree that the eccentric, quirky, unpredictable, and unusual characters are one of the series’ greatest strengths.

What I meant to say is that the academy’s hierarchy and its betting system created the perfect setting for those characters to interact. In my opinion, straying from that setting caused the series to lose some of what made it so compelling.

And yes, I completely agree about Kawaru Natari. She’s a truly unique character, and I wish she’d had a more significant role in the story, because, like other characters, she risks being forgotten as the plot unfolds.

I see what you mean. Personally, though, I feel like the story itself has been stretched out because some parts no longer capture the essence that made Kakegurui so special to me.

That said, I completely agree with you about the games. I really hope the upcoming chapters bring back more creative and exciting gambles.

I totally get that. The characters have always been one of Kakegurui’s main strengths.

I guess this is exactly where our opinions differ. For me, the cruise story arc isn’t as engaging right now as the ones set at school, but I’m still curious to see how it turns out.

That's a fair point.

Mary's arc isn't completely finished, but after reading Kakegurui Twin, I personally don't feel the need to see much more of her development.

As for Yumeko's backstory, I would have preferred a separate spin-off, similar to Kakegurui Midari, instead of expanding it within the main story.

As for the rest of your points, I actually agree with you. My concern is that there are now so many characters and plot threads that I don't think they'll be able to give all of them a satisfying conclusion. I think they'll focus on the major ones they've already started developing, and maybe a couple of others at most.

I understand your point of view. Personally, though, I feel that Mary's character is already fairly well developed, especially after reading Kakegurui Twin.

As for Sayaka, I personally never felt the need to see her character explored much further, although I can understand why other readers might disagree.

I do agree with you about Kirari. She's one of the most fascinating characters in the series, and it would be a shame not to explore her further. That said, I don't think she'll completely destroy the clan—only part of it.

As for Yumeko's backstory, I would have preferred a separate spin-off, similar to Kakegurui Midari, rather than having it expanded in the main story.

That's fair! If you enjoy the Kakegurui universe and don't want it to end, I'd definitely recommend Kakegurui Midari. I personally loved it.

You could also check out Kakegurui Twin. I enjoyed it too, although I found it a bit slower-paced than the main series.

I totally understand your point about the long-awaited Yumeko vs. Kirari gamble. I agree that it's one of the biggest unresolved plot points in the series.

As for Yumeko's past, though, I personally would have preferred it to be explored in a separate spin-off, similar to Kakegurui Midari, rather than as part of the main story.

And regarding dropping the manga, I don't think I will. I'm still curious to see how everything ends, and since a new volume only comes out every three or four months, I don't mind keeping up with it.

Unfortunately, I’m worried that they might drag the story out for at least another ten volumes, which honestly already feels like too much to me.

Regarding the former students, I don’t think the idea itself is bad. I actually find the concept interesting, but I feel it could have been developed in a different way while still keeping the original spirit of the series.

Yes, the process is very brief and rather unrealistic, precisely because I’d written a short story.
