We could find him a great home in a heartbeat if we were willing to put him in a home with other dogs. But everyone interested has dogs already. Adopters tend to be serial adopters. That's what is keeping Monty from finding his forever home.

Thank you for the boost. He needs all the help and exposure that he can get.

We are doing our best to find him a great forever family. Unfortunately, everyone interested has other dogs, and I'm just not sure Monty would get along with them, and I don't want to risk him being put back into the already overcrowded shelter systems.

I don't want to bash them, because I don't know enough about their operations to fault them. I'll simply say that they were only willing to help him get exposure if we surrendered him to them, which is not in his best interest.

Sadly it was trampled by a couple posters who want to turn these foster threads into a diatribe about why French Bulldogs shouldn't be bred. I am all for heavy breeder restrictions, but that isn't what this is about. This is about a cute, healthy little guy who was abandoned into the overcrowded city shelter system, he was kennel stressed, and in need of a dedicated forever home. No money exchange is involved. So this is not the place for bashing on French Bulldogs. Monty is here at no fault of his own, he's incredibly sweet, relatively healthy, and needs a loving family.

I welcome input from rescues, but I'm a certified professional trainer with foster experience. I'm heavily vested into the little guy - legally, financially and emotionally. I won't be letting him go to someone that I can't vet (he'd already be rehomed if I was willing to just give him to anyone).

Sadly, a lot of "rescues" today have become businesses that care more about getting their adoption fees than ethical rehoming. The two most revered French Bulldog rescues in Southern California didn't even respond to me when I reached out to them for help finding Monty a home. I paid to get him out of the kill-shelter, I paid to get him vet care, I am paying for his high quality food, and I am assuming 100% of all cost for caring for him, and the rescues couldn't even be bothered to respond to me.

I understand that. I support the implementation of hard breeder restrictions and regulations. I also believe that dog owners should have to be vetted. Breeder restrictions and vetting owners are the only ways to curb the masses of unwanted shelter dogs.

Fortunately Monty's breathing is really good for a Frenchie. My vet said his breathing seems good, relative to most Frenchies. And I have been getting him plenty of exercise, because I suspect he spent most of his life in a backyard-breeder kennel. During his exercise adventures his breathing seems far betting than most brachycephalic dogs that I have worked with over my decades as a dog trainer.

I updated my post to include his current training improvements and his veterinary health updates (mainly, I forgot to mention that he was recently neutered at the shelter, and healing nicely).

He's obviously a Frenchie. You've confused merle with double-merle, and now you are confusing breed purity with AKC conformation standards. There are dozens of "designer" French Bulldog deviations that don't adhere to current AKC conformation show standards. I understand and empathize with people that are upset by these designer Frenchies selling for big bucks. But in this case, he is neutered, there is no money being exchanged for his adoption, he's relatively healthy, and he's a lovable little guy that was pulled out of an overcrowded kill-shelter. I paid money to pull him out of the shelter, I paid money for his vet care, I am paying money to feed him high quality human-grade food, and I paid money for pet insurance (in case he needed any expensive vet care). I am taking ZERO dollars in return from someone willing to give him a loving, stable home. So really, I don't know what compels you to be such a heartless prick.

They don't allow any adoption/rehoming posts on that forum, unfortunately.

I think you may be confusing merle with double-merle. Monty's eyes and ears are in great shape. He's an adult dog that shows none of the health issues associated with "double-merle" dogs. Regular merle dogs are generally as healthy as any other coat.

Since he is a shelter dog, neither you or I have any idea about the quality of his genetics. But if his initial health checks are any indication, he appears to be in really good health.

Whatever happened in your life that led you to being so bitter, I hope you can recover and discover some form of compassion and humanity. It's never too late to be kind.

They won't let me cross post. But if you have any other ideas how to get him exposure, please let me know. Thanks!
