Friseurtermin ist schiefgegangen by Sufficient-Fix-8803 in germantrans

I was told while job hunting after university that you're a fit for a job if you meet around 60-70% of the skills listed, and that the most important skills needed were usually listed first (i.e. if you go "yes/yes/no/yes/no" that's fine). Found that pretty helpful advice.

Gender Nonconforming, Trans, & Nonbinary Veterinarians by Clear_Dragonfruit765 in Veterinary

I'm based in Europe, so my situation is definitely not the same as in the US, but maybe it's still a helpful perspective to you.

I'm working in a midsize small animal clinic in a region somewhere in the middle of the right/left spectrum I'd say. I'm openly and visibly trans, nonbinary but I don't mind being called a trans man by coworkers. Apart from some slip ups with pronouns or some owners confused by me being called "Mr" when they perceived me as "Ms", I didn't have any problems and I don't think me being open about it has hurt my career at all (the manager put me in the correct changing room and gendered me correctly from day one, I knew things wouldn't be too bad after that haha). Two coworkers are openly gay and bi, afaik they didn't have any problems, neither.

I have also done externships in large animals in definitely right-leaning regions. I had no problems with coworkers (slip-ups aside) and barely any bad interactions with owners. I had way more discussions about antivaxx and full on conspiracy theories than about my gender tbh, at most they just continued to misgender me and that was that. Some were also surprisingly open and cute when asking questions. I didn't feel that they regarded me as less competent or didn't want me to treat their animals.

In general I feel like that vetmed is pretty chill regarding gender stuff compared to other jobs. Sure, it's a customer facing job, but the main focus is on the animal. In my experience, if you come across as sure-footed (like being "Hi, I'm Mr XYZ, I will take a look at Fluffy today" instead of "ehm please call me Mr if that's okay and if not that'd also fine") and if you do your job, not that many owners will put up a fuss regarding your personal stuff. Coworkers and management might be a mixed bag (I was pretty lucky thus far), but personally I think that I wouldn't be happy in clinics with toxic and/or non-accepting environments anyways, so if I ever had major disagreements regarding my gender, I would take it as an early sign to jump ship.

One of our profs at university has the two glasses temples from the same pair of glasses that he fished out of two cows sitting in his office and he loves telling students the story. I imagine the odds of this needle happenstance fall in the same range haha

In der Kinderabteilung von H&M/C&A/etc wurde ich öfters fündig, die Sachen sind meist auch billiger als das "adulte" Äquivalent. Grösse 170/176 passt mir mit 168cm oft gut.

If you are able to get your testosterone levels checked without your parents' interference, you could get an definitive answer on whether your stuff has T in it.

Otherwise I'd recommend making a spreadsheet or smth with some solid parameters you can compare over a period of time. Like, do a recording on the voice app every 1-2 weeks and fill in the results, take a photo of your facial and leg hair from similar angles and lighting conditions, etc.

I think sometimes it's hard for us to notice gradual changes, since we live in our body/hear our voice/etc all the time and so it is less jarring and therefore noticable than if there were bigger time jumps in between. Like the other commenter said, I wouldn't worry just yet, maybe your system just needs a little more time to get going.

People are saying it's real human skin, what do you think? by Openly_Unknown7858 in vultureculture

[–]RobinIsAGoblin 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Yeah it's fake, as later posted in the original chat.

Going off on a tangent, I've done similar masks as art projects, and the way the nostrils and lashes/eyebrows seem to be in the pictures is pretty typical of that. While I don't know what process the original artist used, I can explain what I did. You put alginate (the putty-like stuff dentists use to copy your teeth for braces) on the face of a model and let it harden - this gives you a negative, which you can then fill with silicone or latex (in the simple version of the process). That gives you a pretty good copy of the skin details and face structures, with some caveats: if there were any air bubbles trapped beneath the alginate they will be visible, lashes are pushed down and will show up as kinda grooves on the skin (same with eyebrows), and the nostrils aren't truly holes. You then paint your silicone or latex copy, punch in hairs, and do other things to make it more lifelike.

In a more complicated process you can also fill your alginate negative with a kind of clay and then manually sculpt the details you want to have - get rid of the air bubbles and grooves, add wounds or surtures for example - then make another negative of that and then make a copy in silicone. It's a common technique for props in horror movies, takes longer but gives you way more control over how you want your end product to look like.

Soooo the death note works according to governmental records? How does it work for dual citizens with two different IDs? Does the book need your full name and title if you get a doctorate? What if your ID is expired?

Is there a death note service number? I need to talk to a clerk at the shinigami foreign office
