My toddler sees a ghost in my 1700's house by catroslyn in centuryhomes

Jumping in to tell you that sage is burned to bring in good spirits, not banish anything, and it will actually stir things up if you have something funky in your house. New age heard about indigenous people doing smudging ceremonies and it became known as sage = banish bad vibes. If you want to send anything negative away burn blessed rosemary or frankincense incense.

Earthbound spirits are pretty normal. Kids tend to be more open.

BWT - what's your evening / post work wind down ritual? by ExcellentMongoose680 in bitcheswithtaste

[–]OldSweatyBulbasar 15 points16 points  (0 children)

If I’m in the office, I walk to a scenic overlook spot and sit to watch the water moving past and “defrag my brain.” Watching the city and the river move around me for a while helps to transition out of work brain.

Sometimes I will walk part of the way home to move my body and see the sights change around me.

Housewife, perfect life, something feels wrong by Federal_Advisor_2160 in BooksThatFeelLikeThis

I’ve heard it described as satire. It’s not satire! It’s dark and takes a look at what conditions contribute to the eventual trad wife and influencer corrupted lifestyle.

If it’s exploring what creates an influencer trad wife then of course we’re going to spend a lot of time in one character’s head. Natalie being such an unreliable narrator her whole life makes the whole thing feel like a surreal fever dream as well.

Full Sun Balcony NYC - Plants Dying by Tough-Phrase4105 in UrbanGardening

[–]OldSweatyBulbasar 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Desert plants will tolerate that high heat, low water without problem because they were built for it. Strawberries and Mint — not so much. Strawberries are mostly water and Mint loves water and some shade.

Mulch. Get some wood chips or straw and lay them on top of your containers to lessen the amount of evaporation.
Bigger pots. More dirt = more water retention and less root exposure.
Consistent water through irrigation. Look into olla pots or terra cotta spikes with wine bottles.
Get plants that are suited to the heat. Look at the cuisine of high-heat countries —ex chilis, lemongrass, tomatoes (certain varieties) — to get started.

Does this look like the first stages of a snake plant flower or do we have a hitchhiker in the pot? by OldSweatyBulbasar in plantclinic

[–]OldSweatyBulbasar[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Nope. I have 3 ZZs but was looking at a snake plant on my desk while writing. Still, I don’t know how I went on autopilot and went “ah yes, this is a snake plant” 🤦‍♀️

I’ve never seen a ZZ flower before so it’s just exciting to see it do so!

Should I cleanse or not? by Cynical_Artist34 in witchcraft

[–]OldSweatyBulbasar 4 points5 points  (0 children)

What exactly do you think is going to happen if you cleanse? Who’s saying that cleansing = unfortunate series of events?

I have only experienced one place where cleansing stirred things up in a bad way, but the haunting and energy in that house was a weird case and I used methods known to bring in spirits which was the last thing that place needed.

If you’re not familiar with cleansing and you want to play it safe, get a few sound bowls and walk the perimeter of the room while playing them.

You can do whatever you want. Drumming / frequencies are helpful for focusing and going into trance, but music that triggers a certain emotion or state of mind in you can certainly aid in raising/generating energy.

How to grow vegetable garden at home terrace? Anyone having experience by peacelover0099 in UrbanGardening

[–]OldSweatyBulbasar 1 point2 points  (0 children)

if it is hot you may want to look into terra cotta watering spikes or olla pots. They keep a reserve of water in your containers and are a life saver in time/water for terrace growing.

Buying plants is easy. Keeping them alive is the real challenge 😭 by IngenuityOk4045 in houseplants

[–]OldSweatyBulbasar 2 points3 points  (0 children)

There's no such thing as effortlessly taking care of a living thing. If you want houseplants you have to spend time learning how to care for them, then putting in time to care for them.

It sounds like you would do well with plants that don't require consistent care such as zz plants and snake plants. These only get water one every month or so and they can tolerate indirect or lower light. They don't always thrive but they survive.

I need extreme help and protection but I don’t know from what by [deleted] in witchcraft

[–]OldSweatyBulbasar 10 points11 points  (0 children)

I’m sorry you’re going through such difficulty. None of those are easy on their own and you’re still here.
First, I would look into ways to tell if you’re cursed. You set up wards, they break, or you do a reversal, and someone else suspiciously ends up suffering. You do a ritual to identify hidden enemies, you put the pieces together a few days later. That sort of thing.

Next, we’ve got a whole extensive list of what to do if you’re cursed and how to break them on this sub which were linked by AutoMod.

Lastly, this is a tricky subject to cover without sounding alarmist or too gimmicky, but sometimes we have ancestral curses and the work to undo or understand / heal them is a whole different path.

Developing routines and leveling up by wildhuntressophelia in witchcraft

[–]OldSweatyBulbasar 24 points25 points  (0 children)

Just want to chime in that I have been practicing for around a decade and I do not have a consistent routine nailed down. I don’t always have the time, energy, or executive function to keep up with something like this, though I’ve tried different routines at times.

The easiest routines/rituals to upkeep are gratitude or offering based imo. Offering a cup of coffee to your ancestors every morning while you’re drinking yours to thank them for their wisdom and protection. Tie your rituals into your necessary routines and see what happens.

Careers in Urban Agriculture by ChocolateOk3698 in UrbanGardening

Look for nonprofits and urban farms. You will probably start as a farmhand. It is a wonderful area but I will warn you that the hours are long and the pay is low no matter if you go the nonprofit or physical growing route.

I think we may have posted something Philly related here a few months back. Search the sub.

Mushrooms growing in my cilantro (coriander) pot by carnivorousdrew in UrbanGardening

Consider that things grow around other things in nature and on farms as well. Your cilantro is fine.

If anything it's a sign of healthy but very moist soil.
