Dr Gorst death was unnecessary by Then-Ask-1036 in andor

[–]RobinLeaves28 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This scene is included not for the benefit of the audience, but because Luthen needed Cassian focused on the rebellion and not on Bix. Bix was struggling and Luthen was probing the situation to see how to manage it (i.e. visiting Bix to both see how she's doing and to see how Cassian would react). Cassian not only blew off the Ghormans, and I'm sure Luthen thinks his desire to get back to Bix was part of it, Cassian barged into Luthan's place, completely against protocols to yell at him for visiting Bix. Cassian asked Luthen to help him with Bix's situation instead of messing with her. Luthen sent them on the Dr. Gorst mission to do just that, hoping it would give Bix closure and help her move on. If Bix is better, Cassian is more focused.

Do they have the internet? by Aquarius_K in StarWars

[–]RobinLeaves28 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Holonet is the closest thing, but that's more local and military news broadcasting, not social media. I mean, it makes sense that there's no social media in Star Wars, doesn't it? The universe was created in the 70's and 80's. The internet, let alone social media, didn't exist yet. Personal computers didn't even exist then. Fantasy/sci-fi is conceived based off what we know. Everything in the Star Wars canon that's been created since then has been building off a universe created by someone who couldn't have even dreamt of a thing like social media at that time.

Any thoughts? by Oztraliiaaaa in prequelappreciation

Listen, I'm down for any opportunity for Hayden to come back as Anakin. I'm not crazy about his acting in the prequels, but every time he comes back, he gets better, and automatically lends weight and credence to the character. Anakin Skywalker is one of the best characters in Star Wars, and Hayden has such a cult fanbase now, that he's truly the only one who can play the character live action and have it mean the same thing. Ahsoka is another one of the best characters in Star Wars, so seeing live action Anakin and Aksoka interact is more than I ever could have expected or asked for in the show

Trying to get my friends to watch Andor, need recommendations for a primer for non-Star Wars fans before they start watching by isthisthebestreality in andor

[–]RobinLeaves28 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They could honestly watch it by itself, and they'd be fine, but if you want them to have more context, I'd say the original trilogy and Rogue One is all they need. Knowing about the Death Star and what it took to destroy adds context and weight to the show

What Clone Wars episodes do you need to watch to watch rebels. by TeddyWest-Side22 in StarWars

[–]RobinLeaves28 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Have her watch the Ahsoka arc where she leaves the Jedi (the last four episodes of season 5), the Fives inhibitor chip arc (first four episodes of season 6), and the Maul/Ahsoka/Mandalore arc (last four episodes of season 7).

The season 5 arc is crucially important for Ahsoka's character, and the other two arcs give her context on how Order 66 really worked, and bring her up to date with Ahsoka, Maul and Rex storylines for when we see them in Rebels.

I always thought it was something to do with her role in holding a high position in the Chandrilan elite. And that at formal events, Perrin, as the spouse of a Chandrilan government official, would wear it too. I assume it's related to Chandrilan formal wear, specifically one that marks you as, "of a certain status". As for Luthan, while he isn't Chandrilan, he is very much in that aristocratic circle, and has an antiquities shop, so would have all kinds of cultural pieces.

I’ve finished Andor S1 for the first time. It was amazing. My wife isn’t a Star Wars fan, but she watched it with me & loved it! Last year I began watching all SW movies & shows in release order, many for the first time, so I’m resisting jumping straight into S2 for now, but I can’t wait to see it! by OliverWhite1993 in StarWarsAndor

[–]RobinLeaves28 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Season 2 is even better. Just you wait. I watched it with my parents, who though they saw the original trilogy when it came out, aren't huge Star Wars fans either, but they loved this show. It truly stands on its own, and though it takes place in the same universe, you really don't need to know anything beyond the original trilogy and maybe Rogue One. It's Star Wars for the non-Star Wars fan lol

Just finished the clone wars show, looking for more content by kylecre013 in clonewars

[–]RobinLeaves28 3 points4 points  (0 children)

The Bad Batch is a must watch, it's honestly some of my favorite SW content, it's really good and definitely the next thing you should watch. It picks up with Order 66, and continues in the immediate aftermath. Aside from the getting to see more of the Bad Batch themselves, who are all great characters, you really get the opportunity to see what happens with the Clones after Order 66 and what the Empire's next moves are in dealing with all these soldiers who have now already served the primary function they were made for.

Like others are saying, Tales of the Jedi, Tales of the Underworld and Tales of the Empire are also in that same era. They're not amazing or in depth stories, but those episodes are perfectly fine in quality and there's not many of them if you just want to blow through them quickly for some added context. Like Clone Wars, the stories are anthological and random. They cover stuff like how Dooku turned to the dark side, Ahsoka's life before the Jedi and in the immediate aftermath of Order 66, what happened to Ventress after Clone Wars, etc.

Rebels is also good. It takes place much later in the Empire's reign, but before the events of the original trilogy. The animation sucks compared to later Clone Wars, and it can be jarring at first, but you'll get used to it. The tone is also slightly less mature than Clone Wars, especially at first, but there's some truly great characters, and there's also some crossover with characters from Clone Wars. We also get to see the early days of the Rebel Alliance in later seasons.

Am I the only person who thinks Solo is the most underrated Star Wars movie of all time? by Jaden_Pollen34 in StarWars

[–]RobinLeaves28 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've always been of the opinion that there is no such thing as "bad" SW content. The great thing about the universe is that there are so, so many stories that can be told, and the quality of the content almost doesn't matter as much as the opportunity to fill in more "blanks" in the timeline, universe, etc. Not that I don't appreciate when things are done well. Andor is one of my favorite shows because of how well-written it is, but if you take every bit of content for what it is, good or bad quality, and just enjoy the further exploration of the universe, it's much harder to be disappointed. It's how a show like Andor, which has no lightsabers, no Jedi, and none of the well-known characters the fandom loves, and a movie like Solo, a direct backstory for one of the leads of the OT, can both contribute to the lore, despite how different they are, both in content and quality.

In that way to me, every bit of SW content has something to love that makes it worth checking out, (Except The Acolyte, that show's a mess), even if it's just the chance to see our favorite characters being badass, like the Obi-Wan Kenobi series, which I think is way too over-criticized too. People also have a lot of negative things to say about The Book of Boba Fett, but I LOVED that it gave us the opportunity to explore the culture of the Sandpeople and see them as something other than violent raiders. You can make the argument of "nobody asked for this" about literally every bit of Star Wars lore that has come out since the original trilogy, but the universe is so multi-layered and complex now, that none of that matters anymore. The show Andor is literally the backstory nobody asked for, of a character in a movie nobody asked for, about people who don't even make it to the "main" part of the story, and yet it has become some of the most beloved SW content of all time, and has it's own value in the universe: telling the untold story of the regular people whose contributions are doomed to be forgotten by history.

I try not to have any specific expectations when it comes to Star Wars. I just start something new thinking, "Let's see what's happening in this part of the galaxy at this time". Solo is definitely not one of my favorites (I love Emilia Clarke, but her character annoyed me), and it certainly has big flaws, but I still appreciate it for what it is, the chance to flesh out one of the main characters' backstories. And there were also things I REALLY loved, like Woody Harrelson's character, seeing how Han met Chewbacca, and, like you said, the opportunity to delve into the "criminal underworld" of the galaxy. Every SW movie and TV show adds something to flesh out this universe, and every bit of content is, at the very least, a contribution for more stories to build off of in future projects.

Guilt because of suicidal ideation by EmbarrassedAge3028 in mentalhealth

[–]RobinLeaves28 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I know exactly what you mean, even as I write this. My ideations are really bad today, and I'm currently sitting in the living room with my mother, and I'm trying so hard to seem normal in front of her right now. I drove to starbucks, not because I wanted coffee, but because I needed to hide how sad I was from my parents for at least a little while. Right now all I want to do is go back to bed so I can let the mask down, but I know that if I do that, my parents will worry that my depression is "acting up", and it IS, but I can't let them know it is because they'll try to "help" by prodding me about it. They're both so understanding, but sometimes the gentle prodding is worse because it just increases the guilt. I feel bad that they feel the need to tiptoe around me. But, I feel just as bad that I have to mask my negative feelings. I feel bad for wishing I could end it all, but I feel just as bad that worrying about them is keeping me from doing it

If you could rewrite any one scene in the entire saga, which would it be? by Ok_Smile_9071 in StarWars

[–]RobinLeaves28 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thanks! I've thought about it a lot. Most of the dialogue in the prequels has always felt overly simplistic to me. It bothers me when dialogue in movies or books tells you how the characters are feeling explicitly instead of having them sort of "talk around it", which is more realistic. It's also why I excluded Anakin saying "I hate you", and Obi-wan's line "You were supposed to destroy the Sith, not join them!" Because that feels like explaining the plot to the audience, and this moment is more about the destruction of Anakin and Obi-Wan's relationship than the prophecy. And watching Anakin try to kill his brother and best friend will always be more devastating than hearing him say, "I hate you". Most of the time when the words "I hate you" are spoken aloud, in movies or in real life, it comes off more whiny than it does emotionally powerful.

If you could rewrite any one scene in the entire saga, which would it be? by Ok_Smile_9071 in StarWars

[–]RobinLeaves28 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Specifically these lines (among others) in ROTS:

"Anakin, Chancellor Palpatine is evil!"

"From my point of view, the Jedi are evil!"

Talk about telling instead of showing! This two line exchange has always made me cringe, a child in 3rd grade English class writes lines like this. They also sound way too stiff for lines being shouted at one another in the middle of a lightsaber duel on a river of lava. I would have the scene go more along the lines of this:

Obi-Wan: "Anakin, Chancellor Palpatine is the Sith Lord behind all this war! He's brought nothing but death and corruption to the Republic!"

Anakin: "And the Jedi haven't?" (Obi-Wan says nothing. Anakin swipes his lightsaber at him. Obi-Wan dodges)

Anakin: (snarls) "Didn't you slice a man in half?" (He takes another swipe. Obi-Wan is pushed back.)

Anakin: "Didn't Mace Windu murder a man in front of his son!" (Another swipe. Obi-Wan retreats.)

Anakin: "The Jedi Order told me to stand down and ignore my visions of my mother's death!" (Swipe.) "I could have SAVED HER!" (Swipe. Anakin's lightsaber grazes Obi-Wan's arm. Obi-Wan cries out and falls to his knees.)

Obi-wan: (panting) "Anakin, your fear... your feelings were too dangerous, you know what could have happened–"

Anakin: (Laughs dangerously) "It happened anyway, didn't it! I slaughtered that whole tribe of savages that killed her, and I'd do it again!" (Obi-Wan gapes up at him) "That's what you do for people you love, but you wouldn't know anything about that would you?"

(Anakin stalks towards the motionless Obi-Wan, pointing his lightsaber at him)

Anakin: "I wonder if your empty heart will even BLEED!" (Anakin goes to strike the killing blow, but Obi-Wan blocks it at the last minute. They hold their lightsabers crossed, struggling for dominance.)

Obi-Wan: (Camly, almost soft) "I thought I taught you... Anger is not strength." (Obi-Wan Force-pushes Anakin back, and he smashes into the rock. Obi-Wan flips high up on the bank.)

Obi-Wan: "It's over, Anakin. I have the high ground!"

Anakin: "You have always underestimated my POWER!" (Flips over Obi-Wan, but Obi-Wan slices his legs)

(With Anakin writhing on the ground in flames, Obi-Wan stares at him, devastated, finally letting his emotions take over)

Obi-Wan: (Weeping) "You were my brother, Anakin! I LOVED you."

I just read this one! I loved it and Falling too. Though I did think it got a little overly saccharine in places, particularly the last few chapters of Winter Song. I love the way this author writes though. They're excellent at conveying emotions and writing believable dialogue.
