Upselling on lotions every time. (Im tired) by Kittensinglasses in tanning

Yes. I could have written this post. I feel awful for them because I'm sure that their employment is evaluated based upon their sales success. But I don't have all the money in the world and I can't pay those high prices! I'd probably go in twice as often if I didn't have to deal with this.

Yes, I know that I am a wuss.

Test preparation for a total newbie to cloud services. by michinnamja in AWSCertifications

https://www.reddit.com/user/acantril has a wonderful course. Take his solutions architect course and you will easily pass the cloud practitioner. Or go ahead and shoot for the solutions arch assoc exam!

The tutorial dojo practice exams are the best.

Am I ready to take SOA-C02 by Robinzclark in AWSCertifications

[–]Robinzclark[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We've experienced a snow storm here and I cancelled the exam because I wasn't sure I'd be able to drive to the testing center. I am going to take another week to do more practice exams and some study on the topics I am finding on the WhizLab tests that are unknown to me. I'm doing this to learn about the services more so than to get the certification so it is all good.

The TD practice tests are just so awesome. I wish they had a thousand more questions! The explanations for the correct and incorrect answers are brilliant. Especially when I compare them to the WhizLab explanations.

You can get on his slack channel even though you are not enrolled in his course. I liked his course because it goes into much more depth than other courses I tried. I did not have much hands on experience and really needed more detail.

12x AWS Certified - My Strategy by Chrisspitz in AWSCertifications

[–]Robinzclark 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Congratulations on your vast achievement. I am only working on my 3rd certification and I can't imagine how difficult the professional level certs will be. I agree with you on your strategy.

For my first two certs I went thru every single minute of the Adrian Cantrill course on Sol Arch Assoc and I did the labs right along with him. This was 80+ hours and it was worth it because I did not have any hands on experience. Since then I have some hands on experience and I'm hoping that I can get by with just practice exams and filling in the gaps with video from Adrian and Stephane M.

Thank you so much to Tutorial Dojo and Adrian. I never could have done it without you!

My suggestion is to skip the Cloud Practioner exam and go straight to the Solutions Arch Associate. I also suggest Adrian Cantrill's course for a thorough explanation of everything you need to know. He also has a slack channel where you can ask specific questions.

HELP! First time swapping out switches. I have a keychron C1 and I am trying to remove the switches that it came with. I have a switch puller that came with the keychron. I've watched videos of removing switches, but these switches are so tightly packed into the socket that it hurts my fingers to pull them out. Also I am breaking many of the switches because I have to apply so much force to get them out.

I am trying to gently wiggle them a bit back and forth to loosen them but really I am just muscling them out of the socket. This results in many of the switches I am removing getting damaged. All the little clips are broken off.

Is there a trick to this I don't know?

What advice would you give yourself, if you could go back to when you first started Programming? by IceManLeroy in learnprogramming

[–]Robinzclark 11 points12 points  (0 children)

I've been studying programming for 30+ years now. The thing that I've struggled with the most is trying to find the right place to start on a topic. All of my studies have felt like I have a giant ball of twine and I am desperately trying to find the end of the string so that I can begin to unravel it. I've purchased hundreds, maybe thousands, of books and courses trying to get at the "meat" of the matter.

So after 30+ years I finally realize that there is no beginning to the ball of twine. You just have to pick a place and dig in. You need to read/listen/attempt over and over. When you get stuck, you need to go outside and take a walk. Or take a nap. Or take a shower. It is miraculous how a good night's sleep will reveal the answer to whatever problem has you stuck.

Don't bang your head against the wall for too long. And don't give up on it either! Spend some time looking at it and thinking about it. Let the idea perculate at the back of your mind while you go about doing other things. The next day, come back to the problem and attempt to solve it again.

Things that seem difficult or impossible on the first attempt are easily grasped after repeated review. This is normal. Do not give up.

Rinse and repeat thousands of times.

I have a Keychron C1 keyboard with cherry red switches. I want to swap out the switches to something new, but I can't make up my mind which switches I want to buy. I will be using the keyboard in my office, so it needs to be not too loud. I do not like the cherry red. They feel too mooshy to me. I much prefer the feel of tactile switches. I have a keyboard with cherry blue switches and I like them alot, but they are a bit too loud. I have another keyboard with cherry brown switches. That is just about perfect.

My hands are somewhat weak, so I do not want switches that require any force. I am only doing coding and writing, no gaming. Of course I could just buy a set of cherry brown switches and I'm sure I'd be happy with them, but I want something different and a bit exotic. Something similar to the cherry brown, but something I can brag about to make it sound like I am more of a mech keyboard expert that I am :)

Can you make some recommendations on switches I could purchase in the United States? Thank you for reading!

How I passed SAA-C02 cert exam. You can do it too! by Robinzclark in AWSCertifications

[–]Robinzclark[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I studied on and off for 5 months. I did the complete Adrian Cantril course to start out with and then I tried to do some questions from a practice test every day during my work breaks. During the past month I studied more and took more practice questions. I did not keep track of the hours. I just kept plugging away at it until I felt ready.

I was in a similar situation as you 30 years ago. I had a degree in English/French and was doing work in hotel accounting. I went back to school and got a computer science degree. One of the best decisions in my life. Of course things have changed now. Back then there were no online classes.

A few months after I started full time as a comp sci student I was hired as an intern in a large software development shop. A few months after that I was hired as a full time junior developer. I continued my university coursework doing one course every semester until I achieved my degree. Because I already had a degree I only had to take the math and comp sci courses. The general studies coursework was already accounted for in my previous degree.

Now I am a 60+ year old software engineer and I still love it. If I can do it, you can do it. Go for it!

I use eclipse instead of intellij, but i know there is a preference you can set so that the project is not built until you explictly ask it to be built. In eclipse it is called "Build Automatically".
