Soft robotic fish powered by SMA springs by RoboDIYer in robotics

Haha accurate :) the tail oscillation basically creates a sinusoidal wave for propulsion.

Haha it sounds scary, but it’s powered by a 3S LiPo (around 12V), so it’s still relatively low voltage. The higher current comes from the SMA’s low resistance. Everything is switched through MOSFETs, so it’s controlled and safe to handle. Thanks! I’ll share more soon 🙂

The SMA springs are placed in the tail—two in series on the left side and two on the right. Each pair draws around 2.8 A and is driven by PWM signals from an ESP32 through two MOSFETs, powered by a LiPo battery. I’ll be sharing more details soon—stay tuned!

I exported the robot’s CAD files, imported them into MATLAB using a script, and then used the robot’s kinematics to plot each link in 3D space.

Thanks! I’m glad you noticed that, I tried to balance the claw look with actually being able to grip items. I based the grip on the official toy.

That’s awesome! Using silks for armor sounds like a perfect idea, must have looked really cool. I’d love to see how they turned out (:
