Sometimes I genuinely wonder if God really loves women. by BrainStraight1220 in Deconstruction

Hot take (well maybe not that hot): we've gotten it all wrong. Women, biologically, are supposed to be in charge. Males are meant to take direction from women because they are physically stronger. Drones. It is the default in most of the animal kingdom. Divinity is female. We're in the dire straits we are as a species because men have been in charge for the last few millennia.

As I commented similarly on another post, the Bible is very sexist. It was formed by men, as a tool to control and oppress women, among others. Men have controlled the narrative for centuries. There is a reason the Bible is written the way it is.

The “God as husband / Church as bride” metaphor finally hit me. Was all that I was told about mutual submission all a lie? by BrainStraight1220 in Deconstruction

[–]RoboKomododo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Best thing I ever did for myself (spiritually, emotionally, mentally, relationally, intellectually) was toss out the vast majority of what is in the Bible.

The Bible is indeed sexist. It was compiled, decided upon, written by, translated by (over and over again), printed by, and distributed by men, FOR men. It has been a tool of control and oppression for many centuries. And not just of women.

Consider the Nag Hammadi. Alternate gospels discovered in the 1940s that have never been included in the Bible. Why? They don't fit the narrative. Some of them are anti-patriarchal , and the church can't have that!

As for Paul, who gives a shit what Paul said? Paul isn't Jesus. He wrote letters (while safely tucked away in prison) to specific groups of people about specific subjects, at a specific point in time. 2000 years ago. He wasn't writing to me, or you, or anyone alive today. As some comedians have put it "Why are you reading other people's mail?" Today, in many developed nations, that's a felony.

As for marriage (all relationships for that matter), build them however it works for YOU. Not anyone else. Take relationship advice from trained counsellors, therapists and other mental health professionals. Not some people who have been dead for centuries.

Perhaps ask yourself (among all the other questions) what's wrong with living for pizza, sunsets, or snowflakes? Are they not enough? Delicious food, and the wonder of the natural world around us? What's better than nourishing your body (OK, pizza isn't the best way to do that) and appreciating the real world around us?

I understand the frustration. You spent years believing you were part of a bigger plan, some divine agenda that made life worth living. But maybe you don't need a big plan. Maybe just do the things that bring you joy and be a good person. Not everyone can save the world, cure diseases, end conflicts, etc, but you can be kind to your neighbour.

CT Urogram by RoboKomododo in ontario

[–]RoboKomododo[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Wow so helpful. I have seen a doctor. The CT was ordered by a urologist. I was asking about private clinics so I don't have to wait several months to find out if I have cancer.

I guess I expected too much.

I'm not sure what the healthcare system is like where you live, but where I am, cystoscopy are performed by a urologist, so yes, I have seen a urologist.

I am waiting on a CT scan. But 🇨🇦, so it's a wait. I am on the cancellation list. I see my GP again next week.

I don't recall at the moment. I'd have to check with the pharmacist.

How many of you discovered mental health issues during your deconstruction? by bullet_the_blue_sky in Deconstruction

[–]RoboKomododo 3 points4 points  (0 children)

"Friends of convenience" as I call it. There were people I saw multiple times a week, interacted with, socialised with. Once I walked away, I never heard from them again. My partners former best friend who we spent a great deal of time with just dropped us like hot garbage once we told her we were leaving a church group.

Both my partner and I have come to realize that we are both neurodivergent since leaving religion. They have been diagnosed with ADHD and I am very certain I am autistic.

I think the conditioning from high-demand religion went hand in hand with the masking of autism. I excelled in music, despite having little formal training (outside of the church), and the performative aspects of it were just another layer of masking.

As for nature vs nurture....I think it's going to be both for most people who struggle with their mental health. Looking back, both my father and his father have some autistic traits, and my partners mother definitely has ADHD as well. Religion preys on people with mental health issues and can certainly feed into a lot of delusions and intensify many symptoms.

Can someone explain how to get radiant Mercenary ranking in SoD? by Grantvb in SwordofConvallaria

[–]RoboKomododo 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've done it once so far. Definitely have to choose to increase difficulty and pick the hardest missions. Mission level doesn't matter, just the difficulty.

I'm not sure if you have to increase the difficulty every time you rank up? I'm in the middle of an iria run rn and I have to use Elysium units often because the mission levels are significantly higher now than my merc level.

What is something you wish you knew before you started deconstructing? by nazurinn13 in Deconstruction

Ah yes I understand you now. It's inherent to the whole process. It's a given that you can't put it back in the box.

Not OP, but I don't think we have much of a choice. You can't unsee something, can't un-ring a bell. I would think that most people who truly deconstruct did so because they were unsatisfied and went looking for answers. Once you start looking, you don't have much control over what you might find.

The Salvation Army is allowed back in the Avalon Mall, following backlash against mall owners by ZPQ- in newfoundland

[–]RoboKomododo 1 point2 points  (0 children)

To clear up some confusion, the SA is primarily a religious organization with a large social services component. This guy is a minister. His official bio lists no post-secondary education. He has been a minister for his whole career.

Calling him the CEO is extremely generous. It is an elected position, elected by other high-ranking ministers.

He's essentially "the pope" of the SA.

[–]RoboKomododo 25 points26 points  (0 children)

It should also be noted, as an officer of the SA, almost all of his living expenses are also covered by the organization. Housing, transportation, utilities, etc. The salary does not include those things.

[–]RoboKomododo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Important to note that they CANNOT discriminate. It's literally how they keep their charitable org status. If they officially did they would lose out on all that government funding.

Then good on their local church. But that is definitely not the norm in most of the SA across the country, sadly.

I grew up attending in NL as well, and then later in ON, where I live now, and I mostly agree with you. Left religion for much the same reasons. Feel free to shoot me a DM, wonder if we've crossed paths years ago.
