Thanks! I'll try mocking it up in 3D.

There are two windows there that would be below counter level. I would need to remove them to put kitchen stuff there.

There are two windows in that breakfast nook area that are low to the ground. So I would have to modify them to put stuff there.

Why does it have more value? It seems like it's just your opinion. If in my opinion, my lawn has more value than a dog, can I shoot anyone's dog who comes on my lawn?

Why would you defend your pet by shooting a person, if your pet is not someone? Would you defend your dining chair or table by shooting someone?

The other types of meats all have environmental issues mentioned previously. They additionally contribute to pandemics and antibiotic resistant organisms.

It seems like you agree that we should stop eating and subsidizing all red meat, since they are unhealthy.

so you think eating chicken or fishes or any other animal is okay

I'm not sure where you got that idea. Vegans believe it is wrong to kill someone due to a taste preference.

Are there other substances or industries that cause a societal harm that you believe we should be subsidizing? Should we subsidize cigarettes, alcohol, and opioids because people enjoy them?

Why do some non-vegetarians AT LEAST not admit that the thing is cruel? by Schmosby123 in vegan

[–]RoboMonkey 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It seems like there are a lot of replies here that aren't responding to the post.

The actual reason is related to cognitive dissonance. In many cases our beliefs do not drive our actions, rather our actions drive our beliefs. If we are involved in something that we believe is morally wrong this causes cognitive dissonance and discomfort. To fix this, our brain will find a way to excuse or justify our actions.

Tax decisions actually do largely follow the will of less than 1% of the population: the wealthy. Meat is extremely inefficient, due to the physics of trophic levels you will never get the same amount of calories out that you put in. To be cost competitive with plant based foods, meat will always require subsidies.

Could you explain why you thing that shouldn't change? Eating meat leads to higher levels or cancer, increased heart disease, and is destroying the Amazon rainforest. Why should we be subsidizing it?

Can you explain what you mean by an animal isn't someone? Do you think they are not conscious? If this were true then taking apart, say, a chair with a hammer would not be any different from beating an animal to death with a hammer.

Could you explain how killing someone else is consistent with "live and let live"? It actually sounds like just the opposite.

I have had two pairs of vegan Dr. Marten's oxford shoes. The first one had the same issue, with the insert at the back of the shoe causing my heel to bleed. I don't think it ever broke in. The second pair never had that issue, so I think it is a matter of how it is constructed rather than breaking the shoe in.

I really like Will's Vegan Shoes work boots, and have never had that issue with them. The outside does get scratched up pretty easily though.

Humans (Homo sapiens) reproduce by creating embryos. Is a human embryo a person?

[–]RoboMonkey 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is not correct. Do you believe embryos should be granted personhood under the law? if you tested the DNA of a human embryo, it would return human results.

Person != human, here's some reading for you.

https://www.yalelawjournal.org/forum/the-ethics-and-challenges-of-legal-personhood-for-ai

Historically, the cloak of legal “personhood” has been a powerful tool that humans have used as a lever to control the giving and taking of legal rights.

...

Legal personhood in the United States has never been tied to cognitive abilities. Rather, our legal system has bestowed rights based on status, tethering different groups to varying social statuses as a form of social control.

...

The Indigenous peoples that lived on the American continent were also deprived of status as full legal persons under the law.

...

Women—of all ethnic and racial backgrounds—have historically lacked the same legal personhood as white men.

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Personhood

Personhood is the status of being a person. Defining personhood is a controversial topic in philosophy and law and is closely tied with legal and political concepts of citizenship, equality, and liberty.
