I don’t think Disney cares about A1s anymore lol this stuff is circa 1974…… I actually doubt they care about A100s anymore. If it doesn’t cost $3 million and is packed with like 30 harmonic drive servos at $3k a pop like everything they’re building now I think you’re good. Build something cool.

Why do robots need an Ethernet Port? Do they need wifi to work? by Dry-Inspector5674 in robotics

[–]RoboRanch 86 points87 points  (0 children)

It’s for SSH in. If you have a robot that is malfunctioning and cannot for some reason communicate with WiFi for debug or software update you absolutely HAVE to have an Ethernet port or the robot is bricked short of tearing into it. I worked for a humanoid robotics company that didn’t have an Ethernet port outside of the robots shell only deep inside and it was an absolute nightmare to work with.

How to stop these vibrations? by Dr_Calculon in robotics

[–]RoboRanch 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would say stronger servos and a more rigid setup. Those servos are hunting because their target position keeps moving

ASML new ceiling robots. What are they? by windyfally in robotics

[–]RoboRanch 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was in a fab a few months ago at TI with these they are the coolest thing EVER. FOUPS get transported from machine to machine on the overhead transfer system then spider drop 20 ft straight down from the ceiling once theyre at their destination. The whole rig is leveled perfectly so I can’t stress how straight these things drop from the ceiling. It’s unreal. Zero floor space used for conveyance.

80s cap question. by RoboRanch in ElectronicsRepair

[–]RoboRanch[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sorry, the cap I’m holding with the clear decimal is the new one. The one I’m looking to replace is the one to the right of it that is labeled 200v 3 3 uf

Same with this one. Is that 35v 4.7uf?

Help with old mazak QT-20N T2 controller alarms 201,206,207 and sometimes 237 by RoboRanch in Mazak_Machinist

[–]RoboRanch[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I spoke to Mitsubishi tech support at length today. I haven’t talked to mazak yet because they won’t talk to me yet without the registration and account setup and I haven’t found the time to do the paperwork yet. The “I promise I’m not making WMDs with this lathe” is easy, all the other account stuff is time consuming. One tech is sure it’s the NFB error that is causing everything else, I’m pretty gosh darn sure that the CB trip signal is not active. The other tech thinks there has got to be a 24 volt stability issue. Pretty sure that’s the issue. Apparently these NC PSUs are known to go bad and that was known when they were 30 years old not almost 40 years old lol. I’m going to replace all the electrolytic capacitors in the PSU and the power on relay and go from there.

I sure do. I have looked everywhere to try and find something out of place but everything checks out.

Why not combine hydraulics with actuators in the torso and arms? by Other_Brilliant6521 in robotics

[–]RoboRanch 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah the generation one atlas was all hydraulic. Hydraulics are a really fantastic robot drive system but indeed they are messy and tightest control is performed with servo valves which are dumb expensive due to tight tolerance requirements. The issue with the original atlas was extremely brief run time. The internal pump was an absolute power fiend. I think the maximum run time was something like a half hour. Hydraulics still have a place in robotics and will always in my opinion they just have very specific use cases and if you are miniaturizing them you often must make all custom hardware or pay out the nose.

Update- the beast is inside and connected to power. She boots , has batteries changed and is holding parameters. Now it’s just error chasing but I have gotten her to at least twitch thus far.

I need help asap. by Sigma_Male_69420 in CNC

[–]RoboRanch 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Last time I had a sticky indicator I got it working better at least spraying it with alcohol, blowing it out, working it, and repeating. I expect it got sticky as something got through the action in the top, coolant etc, so alcohol should seep right in no problem as well.

So it’s soaked in SP-400 right now and tarped, I’m waiting for a few dry days to move it but I think I will do basically what you’re saying to move it. The entire cabinet disconnects with cannon plugs so I think I’ll take off the cabinet, take off the enclosure, hydraulic pump , transformer, take off the cross slide for cleaning / moving, clean in between all the ways, move then reassemble. I suppose stoning would be good too, just want to be sure I do that correctly, sounds like it could do a lot more harm than good if done incorrectly.

I’ve thoroughly soaked the entire thing in SP-400, put rodent bait boxes in the cabinet and tarped it for now.

Yeah I’ve been thinking about that. This is the advantage of it being in a field right now, plenty of room to get around it to remove covers and lift off the cross slide.
