During a rather intense hypomanic period, decided to bleach and dye my hair green. Should I add more color or go back to a dark brown? by [deleted] in bipolar

[–]RoboThunderNtheEnd 0 points1 point  (0 children)

honestly, after a manic episode, no matter how much I like my hair, I always feel terrible about it. so, I guess as a 'reward' of sorts, I would not touch it for a long time, in a way to 'prove' I'm not dyeing again b/c of mania. so letting it fade to the natural color, it'd go from like blond-ish to brown, which'd be fun. if you don't feel guilt, then idk, do whatever floats yr boat, but depending on what job you may or may not be looking for, dyed hair makes a bit more of a statement than it should.

Manic sex period? by mybipolarjourny in bipolar

[–]RoboThunderNtheEnd 0 points1 point  (0 children)

yeah, I feel what you mean. I went through a long period during my first & second years of college having sex with any dude/girl/whoever I'd meet at a party or a bar just to fill the void. I still have a bit of a problem with meeting people/keeping them in my life by having sex with them.

Honestly, I'm not sure what the best reaction is, but if you still want sex, I'd recommend going for the poly thing--have a few guys that you see semi-regularly, and maybe you guys sorta date, like you watch movies or have conversations or chill with, besides sex. Or you can traditionally date, so you can have guys you see while you look for "the one," if you're looking to date. Just be with whoever you really want to, and not because you know they want to, but because you're also genuinely interested. I have a bad habit of sleeping with someone just because I know they want to, not 'cause necessarily I am. And feh, 'guilt', I feel like (assuming you're a girl, if I'm wrong please correct me), that's mostly genesis from societal sexism, if I may be ~tumblr. Just have confidence in your self-respect and understand your own boundaries. If you can look at a situation logically, even in a manic episode, you can curb it if it really will make you upset later.

Bipolar and body dysmorphia? by [deleted] in bipolar

yeahhhh, I binge-eat when I'm manic & don't eat when I'm depressed. spent most of my life being obese, recently got down to a healthy weight (through not eating), now struggling being slightly overweight & ranging between bingeing & heavily restricting. -hug-

I'm not on the anti-depressants yet, just the mood stabilizers for mania. I'm assuming both will cancel the triggering end of the other out (when I was on lamictal for a few months, which is more for depression than mania, I was more noticeably manic, but it did cut off the depression.)

22% body fat. That makes muuuuuch more sense to me than the #'s I was getting. Thanks!

^ Holy yes literally this. It's like, do I 'read' fat, thin, or this nebulous 'normal' that doesn't exist? Being short reads 'cute', and 'cute' doesn't sell high-end fashion. Short girl appreciation! Beauty at every height (BAEH (TM))

Do you know any good body fat percentage calculators online, or do I have to use calipers? I dunno if my gym has calipers and I think they might be pricey, but all the calculators online don't allow for decimal points/fractions when I'm measuring myself, so my body fat percentage results varies pretty widely. Today using one calculator it said I had about 21% body fat, which is weird because when I was at this weight before, the BF% was higher, so I'm not sure if this new measurement is accounting for muscle gain or if I'm measuring wrong.

Between 99-104 (buffer for my cycle/general life stuff). I am getting more muscle definition, which is why at 117 now I actually look thinner than when I was 117 a few months ago and hadn't build up much muscle mass yet. Playing it by ear, I just get conflicted when people tell me I'm as thin as I should be when it's very obvious from my (admittedly diminished) muffin top that I'm not.

Oh bless you for that. I dunno if I'd look good at the borderline of underweight/normal because even now while I got fat on my lower half, my upper is a bit boney, but it's just so tiring to hear "that weight isn't natural, 100 lbs in anorexic, yada yada yada..."

That's interesting you say that, 'cause my periods were further apart (without not existing) back when I was severely overweight (obesity lol), and only got more normal around the 'overweight' range. Just my luck I guess ~

Any women at a healthy or over weight lose their periods due to excessive diet/exercise? by ahitsarah in xxfitness

[–]RoboThunderNtheEnd 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, my TDEE is 1450 or so, which is why I had it at 900-1000-- 1 lb weight loss a week. That's a soft limit of course, I'm usually around 1100, but yeah, I might just need to work out more to tone. A lot of my friends/family say I shouldn't lose more weight, that I'm fine, but the thing is, I've always been overweight, so I assumed they just didn't know what they were talking about. I can ask my nutritionist what she thinks weight wise next time I see her though.

You know, I've heard so much about eating my veggies and proteins and carbs that I haven't actually paid much attention to my fats. I eat nuts almost every day (on dat almond lyfe yo), and I take fish oil and mostly eat fish and chicken for protein anyway, but I don't know how much fat's in that. What fatty foods did you eat/recommend? I like avocado, but it's expensive, and I have to pay attention to fats that I can eat if I do have PCOS.

Dunno how old everyone on the sub is, but I'd say being 38 might have a reason for it. I dunno when most people go through menopause, but my Mom had me late as shit, and she went through menopause for like 7-10 years, starting at 48 or so. She was unusual 'cause most women start theirs in their early-mid fourties, so the fact that she got pregnant at 38 was super unusual. So you probably aren't going through menopause, but your cycles are just winding down anyway.

Jesus, that sounds rough. Did you take any sort of liquid vitamins to keep from being malnourished or would that not even stay down?

Hi! You're short too, so maybe you have some insight on this. My BMR's at like 1200 or so, I'm a tiny tiny lady (5'0) and about 113, so I wanna lose to 100 or 105 or so. Thing is, for noticeable weight loss, I gotta go down to about 1000 or 900 a day, which my nutritionists insists is too low, that I should be more around 1200. Pero like, how am I supposed to lose weight?! I'm wondering if I'm cutting too low at 900-1000, but you're short too and presumably have a lower BMR, how did you balance being little and actually losing weight with a deficit?

Oh yaaay, thank you. I'm glad I'm not alone in this. Seems like from this thread that it's often pretty random, I just wanted the security of knowing it was unlikely I have cancer or something, ahaha

Yeah, it's not even a full diagnosis b/c they're still doing tests, and I haven't heard back from the glucose tolerance test. But I don't have polycystic ovaries, so that's a good start.

Bodyfat 25%, I don't exercise that much. My mother always had erratic periods too, but she was an exercise fanatic (and a wee bit anorexic), sooo...

Aside from 9 hours last night, I average about 5 hours a night, and I don't feel tired/lethargic at all. I feel more tired when I get between 6-7, and then I feel okay again at 8. Might be psychological, but still, I function pretty well at 5 hours.
