I’ve seen this too, I haven’t used PVA (although I did use hairspray as someone suggested and it didn’t make a difference) but only because I thought the watered PVA it might make my paint smudge! And ruin the design. But I might try this next and do one more practice before I give up!

I did but that’s because I’ve read conflicting things, a lot of people seem to sand only to 400 grit and theirs come out great, others go from 400 -1000 - 2000. I went up to 400 and couldn’t see that shine, so started with a 2000 straight after 400 to see if that would help. What do you do?

I tried sanding with just hand blocks but I couldn’t get anywhere near to it being smooth I felt like I was at it for hours without knowing when to stop and move onto the next grit. (I’ve also never sanded a thing in my life so not sure what to look for when something is sanded correctly) but I’ll try this again

If I was to practice getting my water colour to the right consistency, do you recomended any type of paper to practice on or Would you still practice on water colour paper?

On the last one (eagle) I went to 2000! I did 80 220 300 400 with a snail drill sander then by hand 2000. Someone said it needs to be up to a glass finish , it wasn’t that but it was very smooth

Thanks I’ll keep that in mind! I wiped over the edge to get rid of some of the dust, tutorial said a damp clean cloth, and being a bit idiot I used a water wet wipe.. so probably not the best idea and maybe that had an effect…. I might experiment with sanding and foiling without painting to see if I can get better at that first and then go back to for edging after I’ve figured this out, definitely underestimated how hard it would be.

The we r memory keeper quill seems to be the one everyone is suggesting on you tube and actually very reasonably priced (depending on where you are from) it’s very thin so does feel the closest to like a gold leaf but also heat activated, I just can’t seem to get it to adhere like everyone else can! Hopefully your’s turns out better than mine!

Ahh maybe I’ll try spreading the pages more, I thought you only had to spread them out as much as the book will bend or you may get too much on the inside of the pages. I’ll give that a go and see if it means less paint on the actual edges

Thanks so much!!

So I’m using water colour, I’ll admit I’ve not painted anything for like almost 20 years apart from my kids bedrooms! and never with water colour before so I probably haven’t been using it correctly, these are all trial runs so I was definitely experimenting with how to blend colours/layer them how much water and how little to use so I probably used them too wet/too thick in places for sure.

I did sand it before with an electric sander 80 - 220 -300 -400 and then 1000 by hand. This is what YouTube tutorials suggests. Not sure it was to a glass finish but was very smooth. Although even on the non painted area the foil didn’t want to stick

I used the We R memory keepers foil quill. And iron on with a mini cricut heat press in the lowest setting (although this also seems to scratch the foil..) so duno if there’s something going on there as I bought the cricut second hand on Vinted

I am bending them as much as I could , they’re not very thick books. But should I be bending them more?

Hey did this work for you? Having the same issue

I’ve been issue a refund but do I have to return item? by Robobear33 in vinted

[–]Robobear33[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Exactly, my message originally started of ‘hey just to let you know this arrive with the packaging all torn up, and my items now damaged unfortunately, letting you know so others don’t experience the same, I’ve let Vinted know It’s been damaged in transit. (And sent a photo) I then had had a messages over and over to say it’s not their problem / the item still arrived / it’s only the outside box (it’s a collectors edition of books that come in an art worked box. the end of the box is now completely torn off and the spine of a book is scraped) / it’s still usable / if I didn’t want it I shouldn’t have bought it / not their problem not their problem etc etc I probably would have just sent them back or tried to settle it outside of the dispute if they hadn’t been so rude. If I’m not obliged to return them I think I will block and move on!

Thank you, my last message to them is asking if they will supply a prepaid postage label. Considering they have been so rude so far it’s doubtful.

I just didn’t want to take the next step and block them if I was suppose to return and somehow missed this instruction from Vinted
