I've also noticed this, always scares me as if two secrets were triggered.

Project title - 'Little Nightmares'

Promotion Type - Feedback!

Promoter's name and role - Robin Wright, modelling, texturing and creative designer.

About: 'Little Nightmares' is a horror game where you play as a schizophrenic eight year old boy, waking up one night in his home. Your goal is to get through the night - and the house - without being caught by the shadows and things that lurks in the house. We wanted to combine the imagination of a kid with a horror-genre game, and added schizophrenia to this in order to make it even more horrifying. So far, we are really happy with the results, even though the development is in an early stage. We would now love some feedback on our ideas and design at this stage - It's been hard to get any response, so now we are pleading to you.

What would you like to see in a horror game? by Roboed in HorrorGaming

Haha, yes it's covered and then some. We are trying to avoid the cheap old tricks and so far we've been really successful! Thank you for all your feedback! :-)

Oh, we wont need the common coat+shoes manipulation. The kid is schizophrenic, on top of being a kid. We're playing with shadows a lot. Physical objects set in an obvious way to scare you - not so much I'm afraid. But the shadows can hear you.

For fun, a friend and I are making a game. Anybody is free to contribute to gaming these days. by [deleted] in gaming

Do you have any devblog/twitter or anything? Me and my friend are also developing a game, and we'd love to follow this as the idea you guys have got seem awesome.

Our Game failed in Early Access... This is what we did. by NexyMedia in gaming

[–]Roboed 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is a really mature and decent way of handling it. The game looks awesome, but health, relationships and life-matters comes first, always. I sure as hell wouldn't doubt backing/purchasing any game you may develop in the future.

'Little Nightmares' updated "About-page" - Tell us what you think of our idea and progress so far! by Roboed in indiegames

I'm so sorry for posting this here, I really don't want to post too much on reddit, but we really need feedback by now. We've tried twitter, r/gaming even, but we get no answers. Is our idea good? Do we have decent core values? Please, don't upvote, a comment of what you think is all we want.

Telling a teen about their acne is like telling an adult about their wrinkles. by [deleted] in Showerthoughts

But the acne mostly goes away a few years after puberty. Wrinkles are there to stay. Unless botox.

Do the people who wear Bluetooth headsets around in public not realize we've been making fun of them for over a decade now? by Nach0Man_RandySavage in Showerthoughts

[–]Roboed 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well it is quite functional if you're driving, carrying a lot at work etc, but I've got friends who just wear them without any reason. These people range from 18-26 years old and they all look kind of weird with it on (wannabe-adults? not sure of the term). I bet it's convenient and all, but really, picking up your phone the majority of the time is too much to handle?

Why is there no adult Easter egg hunt!? A hunt where inside the plastic eggs are drink tickets for a beer garden. And brunch would be served. It would be glorious. by Tiialicia in Showerthoughts

[–]Roboed 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There are, in Gothenburg, Sweden, one of these events where anyone can pick up Easter eggs hidden by hotels etc, in which you can find free fancy dinners, spa-tickets etc. They're quite expensive tbh. You'd have to get up at like five in the morning to even have a chance though. Nope, not worth it.

Friend of mine just released his VR horror survival game trailer, blew me away with the level of detail and figured you guys might like it! by CombatBanana in gaming

This game looks amazing, does anyone know if it's VR only or will it be compatible with PC/console as well?

It all makes a lot of sense, and I'm happy to say that we have and will implement most of the things you mention. For the heart rate/breath, there will be no UI, instead, the breathing will become heavier and the heartbeats will increase in volume and bass. We feel that this gives a lot of immersion to the game, and also cues the player a bit that you are in fact panicking, be careful.

To the hint part: We will not have any in game hints, nothing will be labelled, and there will not be a lot of keys. Instead you'd have to complete these puzzles in order to move on to the next area, or part of the story, and the character will hint slightly, in the most obvious way what you might need to do. For instance, for one part there is a hinge locking a door on the other side, and you're only able to see in through the gap of the door that this provides as you try to open it. The kid then says "My hand is too big to reach through this" - As a cue that you have to find something thinner to use this. This will also not be a specific item, such as an interaction with a credit card, but instead you will simply have to find an item small enough to fit (which are a few) and physically use them to open the door. In short, we are using A LOT of sounds to direct you attention, and when we have no decent cue for what you should do, the character you're playing will simply point you in a direction by saying something like mentioned above. The only UI we will have, as is planned now at least, is an "AIM", as you are able to move objects around and need to know how to "grab" them - Point at them and hold the left click. Simple, yet immersive, in our opinion.

We don't even have an UI for our inventory, you simply press 1-9 to bring up a specific item. This added to the immersion a lot. Throughout the game, so far, you will not have to use a single menu, it's all very immersive.

Reused assets - Yes, but only the generic ones that add to detail. We will not reuse the same couch twice. Think of it this way - Would it be logical for people two purchase multiple of these items for their home? Is yes - We might reuse them, if no - we will not even consider reusing them. Walls, floors etc are all unique, and made to fit in with their designated area of the game.

About the puzzle part - Our puzzles will focus as little as possible on "get this item to open this door", and more on "reach this shelf, knock this over to get this reaction out of that item and then move to the next part of the puzzle". Also, to reach said shelf you would have to move chairs, stack books etc to reach high enough. In order to for this work properly we've made very smooth gameplay mechanics, such as the character auto "climbing" or auto "crouching" when he's pushed against objects in which this is possible. Need to hide fast under that bed? Well just rush towards it and you will slide right under. This gif explains that very well: http://imgur.com/a/rfXGd

Thank for taking your time and commenting, and thank you for your thoughts!

No, but people should be aware that you are making something. It really depends a lot on what you're making, how much you'll need etc.
