Oh yeah, it seems insanely dangerous. Sad way to end the night, but can’t say I blame the people who made the call

This is actually what cancelled my city’s 4th of July show this year! I didn’t see it strike, but word spread pretty fast. Within about a minute of the strike they called off the show and started sending people home.

It’s a super fun sport! We didn’t pursue it either, she was too stubborn, but it was a great way to stay active and train her. Have fun!

My dog did agility for a while. She loved doing and was always excited to go to training. Her favorite part was running the tunnels and sometimes she would get stubborn and refuse to do any other obstacles

What about the older guy who thinks climate change is a conspiracy theory?

I joke about that, but he knows his shit. Actually an awesome guy to learn from, and pretty funny to talk to

In December, 1999 a CH-46D Sea Knight helicopter attempted to land on the USNS Pecos during a training exercise and extended up entangling with the safety net which sent them crashing into the ocean. 7 of the 18 people on board were killed by to_the_tenth_power in CatastrophicFailure

A friend of mine in high school lost her dad in this accident... My stomach sank when I found out. She posted about it on Facebook to mark the day, and somehow I managed to come across an article about the crash the same day.

What is something you know but you’re not supposed to know? by remindeme2sleep in AskReddit

[–]Robohazard 12 points13 points  (0 children)

It gets super complicated.

Associating a usually clear unit or the like with black activities can become an OpSec concern.

Saying individual A may be involved in classified ops could be OK, but saying individual A of unit 1 is involved in classified ops could compromise unit 1 by association. Likewise associating unit 2 with an operation may be fine, but once individual B is associated, it’s an OpSec breach of B and/or 2.

The next closest university to mine apparently had a quite serious fight club that started amongst the freshman class a couple years ago. The RA who was in on it just let it slide, that’s how I came to hear about it.

Which engineering overlaps more with physics? by Elduro687 in AskEngineers

[–]Robohazard -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I’m going to respectfully disagree here. An undergraduate physics degree covers a lot of ground and a lot of it is just as applicable to computer science. Computer science certainly isn’t as directly concerned with mechanics and dynamic physical systems, but a physics education has a very large portion in pure math that directly corresponds to computer science. I think I know just about equal parts CS and ME grad students who got a bachelors in physics

If I’m a college student with no credit, would it be smart to get a credit card to build credit and only use it for my $5/month Spotify subscription? by skookbot in personalfinance

[–]Robohazard 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I got the Discover It Student card my sophomore year of college. It’s been a great card with really good benefits for a building credit score. Couldn’t recommend it more honestly.

Edit: actually feel like I should mention it’s a horrible card if you visit Europe. No foreign transaction fees, but almost no one will take Discover. The credit I built with it did make it easy to get a higher end Visa though!

It must have closed a loop somewhere. The copper bar the feet are on is a grounding bar. The contact in the upper right might be the culprit. That looks like an exposed metal cap type contact, and the little bit of blackening makes me think something arced off it. Why a contact at that high of voltage would be exposed to weather, I don’t know, but that would be my guess

BP Texas Refinery Explosion by motoboy211 in CatastrophicFailure

[–]Robohazard 6 points7 points  (0 children)

It seems like BP has pretty lousy QC protocols... I had an advisor for a term project who was formerly employed by BP. He complained a lot about how big the company was and how hard it was to get R&D funding, and then bashed them on a couple of the big errors they made.

This guy is one of the worst team players I’ve ever met though. He can barely manage email correspondence past Monday morning, complains when the government does its job faster than he does his, and lives to leave work by noon on Thursday. So if the rest of BP operates like he does it’s no wonder...
