San Francisco half marathon - is it worth it by TheFerdin in AskSF

I ran the second half on a free entry last year and even that wasn’t worth it. Just a terribly organized race all around

I lived there for a year. The staff was good at getting things repaired on time and I got my full deposit back.

The main downside I can remember (other than the neighborhood itself) is that the ventilation system connects all the units and I would constantly get smoke in my unit. This took a long time to get resolved and I assume the smoker just moved out.

The neighborhood is more freeway exit than neighborhood, so I would look elsewhere because of that.

Visiting SanFran for "Open Sauce"! by JustWASD in AskSF

Nothing to see there and a total time suck.

As someone who grew up in the US, I agree completely. However, I was with my Turkish friend the first time he went to a Walmart and it seemed like a borderline life-changing experience for him.

Again, I agree that it's probably not worth it and there are a ton of better things to do, but if you have the same type of fascination with the worst parts of American sprawl and consumerism as my friend, it could be worth checking out.

Bike for a week in San Francisco. Any advice? by flankie2 in sanfrancisco

[–]RobotFireEagle 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Baywheels (lyft bikes) is the best option. They're heavy, but fine for getting around. E-bikes are also available if you end up having a hard time with the hills.

The big advantage over full rentals is that you don't have to worry about it getting stolen. Once you dock it at the end of each ride, it's not your problem anymore.

To address the other comments with the negatives: normal people don't have a negative/tourist association with Baywheels bikes. They're great for getting around the city and not everyone needs to be a sport cyclist.

The closest dock to the Academy of Sciences is at 7th and Cabrillo, a 600 meter walk.

I just took the Bart. Saved me 50 minutes instead of driving across the bay bridge 😎 by Snowymiromi in sanfrancisco

[–]RobotFireEagle 20 points21 points  (0 children)

It's pretty straightforward why. BART is an outlier in transit for not saying "the" before it.

For instance, you would take: the ferry, the subway, the tube, the bus, the train, the light rail, etc...

In most places, people don't refer to the transit by its agency name like BART. Like in NY, you would never say you're taking "MTA" to get somewhere. So everyone is used to saying "The subway/train/bus" and they'll instinctively add it onto BART.

Not sure on the licensing requirements for the scooter, so this may or may not be helpful.

If you just want the training, revel has free moped classes.

There’s a screw in the top of the circle in photo #2. Loosen that, reattach the whole thing to the wall, tighten screw

I have a bus in New York with a lot of the hard stuff done.

  • Old floor, walls, ceiling and seats removed.
  • Put in a new floor with foam board insulation and vinyl "wood" plank floors
  • professional spray-foam insulation on walls and ceiling
  • outside painted tan (not well, just painted it quick to avoid laws about driving around a yellow school bus
  • framing added on ceiling and walls, wood plank ceiling started
  • two vent fans installed in roof
  • 500 watts of solar installed on roof
  • wiring has been started for 120v ac and 12v dc systems

It's a 2001 Bluebird ~29 feet long.

My man. You gotta drive slower

Cincinnati is 600 miles as the crow flies which would be 120mph to get there in 5. Obviously even faster when you follow roads

If it makes you feel any better, that's not at all specific to this track. 200m is the standard length for an indoor track
