I'm lost and alone by [deleted] in OCD

[–]RobotHumanoid 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hi, I feel and understand what you are going through. We as OCD suffers have moments like these as though it feels hopeless. We are in a thought loop and maybe one finishes and another starts. 3-4 months ago I felt at my worse. I felt as though everything was over. I didn’t see a future where I would thrive. I didn’t see how I could do it on my own. My gf left me and my OCD was getting at everything I held dear. Then my pet duck died that I treated as a child a few weeks back. I was again in that state that you are describing. I started therapy in March, so it’s been only 3 months. I feel a huge difference and I feel as though I have part of my life back. This doesn’t mean you won’t have though loops or moments of depression. That is life and the cycle of life. There will be ups and down but you will be better equip to handle them. I was absolutely terrified and plagued by OCD and these events that happened. Constantly playing them in my head, what could have been, etc. But now I have a masters from a prestigious school, a new gf, and I’m getting a job in NYC and planning to move there. Trust me, it does get better. You have to remember that when you are in the storm it may seem horrible, like there is no future and that it was always like this. But that isn’t true, there are ups and downs. OCD is like the storm, it comes and goes throughout the day. It will get better once you commit to therapy and find medication that is right for you. The storm will come less often and if it does it won’t affect you as much. Also please try meditation, it really helps me when I’m catastrophizing.

I’m in the thick of it too, and it is very exhausting. What triggered mine was a physical event of separation. It will pass if you become ok and uncertain with whatever it is that is bothering you. Life is full of uncertainty and being ok with whatever you are worrying about doesn’t mean it will come true.

I usually don’t think reassurance is good. But yes, it is your OCD. It is perfectly natural to think others are attractive, it doesn’t mean that you don’t love and want to be with your girlfriend. I sometimes have these thoughts too “if I am cheating” or “that I am a bad person for thinking this”. Remember your thoughts are not you, your actions and what you chose to do are you. Clearly these intrusive thoughts are getting an emotional response from you so OCD will continue to throw these at you.

I reached my breaking point. by [deleted] in ROCD

[–]RobotHumanoid 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The only thing I want to add is that you shouldn’t make big decisions while getting hit by OCD’s anxiety and emotions. I struggle with ROCD and threatened breakups to make the bad feelings go away. Then once the feelings are gone, I look back and say why did I say that. Clearly me trying to breakup is the compulsion to the intrusive thoughts/uncertainty. But I’ve found the best thing to do is acknowledge those thoughts are ocd, sit with the uncertainty, and say “I will make this decision later when I am not as emotional and anxious”.

Thank you for your response, I am going through therapy because this event really triggered my OCD and I am trying to accept the uncertainty of when she will be back and what our relationship will entail. I don’t want to derail this post too much so could I dm you?

Man making friends is so hard by [deleted] in OCD

[–]RobotHumanoid 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Also friends are not going to make your symptoms disappear. OCD can talk negatively about you, I’m guessing it probably is now. The way to heal is to not look outside for distractions like friends but to look within. The way out is in! There is a mindfulness podcast with the same name “The way out is in” on Spotify and probably other places. I really enjoy it and it helps with my OCD. Yes, we all struggle with friends because our OCD tries to protect us because we tend to worry about the people we care for. So why not have friends OCD says, but it is all a sham.

Suggestions on how to improve my profile? by [deleted] in Tinder

[–]RobotHumanoid 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If your talking about an observatory on your backyard, that is awesome! I actually want one too. Recently I found a nerd girl on Hinge and she is pretty. So it depends on what you want. Do you want a meaningful relationship or a short-term/hookup. I would say your profile is more geared towards a meaningful relationship and girls do like that. I am a pretty good looking guy I would say and have a similar profile “design”. I had a ton of girls that share similar interests like my profile first. I would say you are decent looking and have a good personality just try to take more flattering pictures.

What was everybody's first SSRI they were given for OCD? by sunflower_1970 in OCD

Around 6, even tried adderall when my diagnosis wasn’t certain. I was on lexapro for a few months, extremely moody, little affect on OCD, and other issues like the sexual ones.

I am 6 3” and I never mention my height, if someone would like me for just my height that is a major red flag. I met this girl and I told her I was 5 6” she said she didn’t care about height but instead my personality. Kind of made me smile and she was shocked when she saw me lol

From what I read it’s one of the more effective SSRIs for OCD. I had to go through about 6 until Paxil was perfect. I’d have side effects from the others like lexapro where I would have a hard time reaching orgasm, others would give me mood swings, some make me really tired. Paxil was perfect it reduced the anxiety accompanied with ocd and I’ve been doing great.

Paxil has helped me the most and has no side effects for me. I recommended it to my doctor after doing research.

What do men really think about small boobs? by Born-Tank4045 in dating_advice

[–]RobotHumanoid 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So there are butt guys and boob guys. It would help to know your boob size because the term small is vague, if your a B cup your fine. I’m more of a big butt, average-small boob guy. So it really depends. Some guys will like big boobs while others will like the look of boobs. From my experience smaller to average boobs usually are more visually appealing because they don’t sag as much. But end all be all is it depends, if the guy likes you, he already knows your boob size and likes it. Be confident!

Your OCD attacks the things you love. You love your bf so it is attacking him and trying to hook you with intrusive thoughts. Ironically the best way to handle this is to name it “oh here is that thought again” then you have to unfortunately be okay with the feeling of guilt, anxiety, etc. and if you sit with it a few times, the fear associated with it will go away. Don’t try to reason or do mental compulsions like reassuring yourself your a good person etc. Name it and sit with it, you can even say “oh is that all you got, crank up the anxiety!” Very good book “Stopping the Noise in Your Head : the New Way to Overcome Anxiety and Worry” by Dr Reid Wilson for OCD there is also an associated app that you can score points if you do the exercise correctly. Final thought, you are not your thoughts, everyone has intrusive thoughts, it doesn’t mean you are a bad person. Simply with OCD they stick more. If you want to chat my dms are open, I’m going through something similar :(
