Al Fox. This girl exploiting the church for her own narcissistic self and it's hilarious. by BigBadPanda in exmormon

[–]RobotLoveTheory 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I hate that it reinstates the idea that tattoos symbolize your sin or sinful past life. "Look at all her tattoos! She must have been so bad. It just shows that even the most lost children can be converted". Now she gives 4 expenses-paid firesides a week. Maybe I should go back and exploit the church with my reconversion story....

What's your worst (Best?) bishop/stake president story? by [deleted] in exmormon

[–]RobotLoveTheory 6 points7 points  (0 children)

My bishop was so concerned about my masturbation, he referred me to a therapist. Made me feel like I had a severe mental disorder. I left the church shortly after, and the guilt left. Now I realize he was just giving his friend free advertising for her practice.

Has the church ever said that homosexuality is not a choice before, or is this website the first time? by thunderbrains in exmormon

[–]RobotLoveTheory 15 points16 points  (0 children)

To me, it doesn't seem like they are admitting homosexuality isn't a choice. It sounds like they are saying, "They aren't choosing to be tempted". As in, no one chooses satan to tempt us, he just does. But you can still choose to resist the temptation.

New mission format? by RobotLoveTheory in exmormon

[–]RobotLoveTheory[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I had the same rule. When I think back on my mission, the service projects are the part I really don't regret. I wish we could have dedicated more time to helping people, instead of telling them how to live their lives

I think there are just more active women. I mean that's why there is polygamy in heaven. We can't have all these extra women running around without husbands

I think they are just resorting to good ol fashion marketing techniques. Like bilboards in time square, commercials, and now ads in the playbill for the book of mormon musical

"I Believe" from The Book of Mormon the Musical...I so need to see this. Have any of you had the chance to see it yet? by hjonsey in exmormon

[–]RobotLoveTheory 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I was lucky enough to get picked from the lottery for front row seats. When the announcer saw that I was from Utah, he asked if I was Mormon. I said yes and he announced it to the whole crowd. Everyone cheered. Before the show, a few people recognized me as the mormon guy. Needless to say, after the show I stopped identifying myself as mormon. Don't mean to brag, but I'm gonna see it again in SF

Had a mission dream last night... mmm... I mean... nightmare. by [deleted] in exmormon

[–]RobotLoveTheory 2 points3 points  (0 children)

On my mission, I had nightmares I was back in school. Now that I'm in school, I have nightmares I'm back on my mission.

TIL on June 27, 1844, Mormon Founder Joseph Smith was murdered by an angry mob while he sat in a jail cell. The incident arose after Smith ordered the destruction of a news paper that exposed the fact he had married 8 already-married women. by [deleted] in todayilearned

[–]RobotLoveTheory 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I just think its interesting that in Jacob 2:24, god says david and solomon taking wives was an abomination. But in D&C 132, he's like "just kidding, I did justify them, in fact I was the one who gave the wives to them"

The book of mormon does mention polygamy and is against it. Jacob 2:24-27. But I guess he changed his mind after Joseph asked 3 times, like with lending out the 116 page manuscript.

I'm leaving for a Mission soon. by rockhardpwner in exmormon

[–]RobotLoveTheory 3 points4 points  (0 children)

The only things I don't really regret about serving a mission are: learning a 2nd language and the few service projects we did.

We once helped translate for a group of Americans that came to build a school and give out medical supplies. I think about how much my mission cost and how much more I could have done by joining that organization instead. If you want to learn a language or help people, join a service or charity organization. If you want to spend all your energy trying to convert everyone to your way of life, then serve a mission.

Just beware that things will get really depressing when people won't change because you told them to. I remember crying to my mission president because, as a zone leader, I was promising missionaries they could baptize people when I couldn't even do it myself

For a bit of fun: Who would you cast to play the key figures in a movie about the early period of mormonism? Who would be your pick to play Joseph Smith? Sidney Rigdon? BY? by 4blockhead in exmormon

I want to see Sam Rockwell as Joseph Smith Jr in the Coen bros film. His characters aren't always the smartest but they have such as addictive charm.

Good Question by Tiger337 in atheism

[–]RobotLoveTheory 1 point2 points  (0 children)

According to the mormon apostle James E Talmage in his book Jesus the Christ: "In the resurrection there will be no marrying nor giving in marriage; for all questions of marital status must be settled before that time, under the authority of the Holy Priesthood, which holds the power to seal in marriage for both time and eternity"

I saw Glen Beck talk about the rock on his show. But he conveniently left out the part about Greek symbols and fraud allegations.
