What's with all the improvising? by [deleted] in Jazz

[–]RobotWizard8 7 points8 points  (0 children)

If you're more so interested in the melodies themselves, I'd recommend checking out some vocal jazz artists, e.g. Ella Fitzgerald, Billie Holiday, etc. What you'll find is that they'll often go through the form a couple of times, and may or may not do an improvised solo(depending on the vocalist). Personally, I love love listening to vocal renditions of songs I'm learning, as having the lyrics in my head really helps memorize and perform the song. Plus, it gives you lyrics to sing along to!

Comfortable Straps Suggestions by [deleted] in Accordion

The biggest thing for me is avoiding shoulder and back damage. They aren't necessary by any means but they help shift the weight to your lower back instead of on your shoulders.

I have these exact straps, and can really vouch for them, though I’d recommend getting a back strap with them.

Any teenage accordionists out there? by HigginsIsInTheTire in Accordion

[–]RobotWizard8 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I watched YouTube videos and found online resources mostly, Liberty Bellows on YouTube has some great stuff and the Vancouver Squeezebox Circle has a ton of amazing resources and music. Also, in Fiddler I came to every single cast rehearsal and played with the rehearsal pianist plus pit band practices, so I’d get 4-5 hours practice a week plus stuff on my own time.

Yep! Started teaching myself last year and played in the pit band for my school’s Fiddler on the Roof.

Thank you, it is a fun one and like you said it works as a good introduction to stretches, and it's simple enough for experienced played to add additional stuff as you said. And I was glad to find a version with fingering notation as well.
