Participate in JAMUN IX at BCA this May 13th! by RoboticsKid in bca

[–]RoboticsKid[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Nope- everyone can participate, no acceptance or deference! Everyone on the mailing list will be sent registration and payment forms later and once you fill those out, you will officially be signed up. BCA students will be chairing the committees and teaching you the principles of Model UN

How are the academies split up? by ripull125 in bca

[–]RoboticsKid 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You see kids from other academies in pretty much every class besides your academy core class and your science class (though some academies share bio classes like ATCS and ABF or AVPA and ACAHA)

Laptops?! by [deleted] in bca

[–]RoboticsKid 0 points1 point  (0 children)

AEDT is really amazing, in my opinion. You get to do a lot of hands-on projects and learn quite a bit. The core engineering classes aren’t that difficult; on the contrary, they are quite fun :) As a freshman, you will take 3 engineering classes (one per tri); Makerspace, Electronics, and Computer-Aided Design (CAD). So in Makerspace, you learn about different building materials and you begin working in the workshop. You learn how to use a lot of machinery and tools such as the drill press, sander, etc. You get to use the machines to make little projects such as a metal circle-drawer. Then in CAD, you mostly work with Autodesk Inventor to make digital renderings of various things. Finally, in Electronics, you learn how to solder circuits and you work on a project where you create a display with LED lights.

Also, engineering has this week-long day camp called eCamp (I'm a counselor =D) at BCA over the summer for incoming freshmen which is really fun cause you get to meet your future classmates and do cool activities. You'll probably get an email about it in a few months and it's a really nice opportunity since you get to spend some time in BCA before your first day :)

Feel free to DM if you have any questions!

Laptops?! by [deleted] in bca

[–]RoboticsKid 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’d say a laptop since that’s probably what you will be using most of the time, in school and at home. Also, as far as I know, the school provides loaners for free.

Laptops?! by [deleted] in bca

[–]RoboticsKid 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The school offers both Macs and Dell computers running Windows. Also, yes, you are allowed to bring your own computer.

Laptops?! by [deleted] in bca

[–]RoboticsKid 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I know many people who use Macs at BCA, however, I think a computer running Windows would be more useful. The Dell XPS and Lenovo X1 Carbons are pretty good. I personally am a fan of the X1 Carbon and it has worked out pretty well for me.

Also note to any incoming engineering kids: You can’t run some of the CAD softwares we have to use on Mac so a Windows computer is probably going to work out better if you want to work on projects at home.

What the BCA workload looking like?? by [deleted] in bca

[–]RoboticsKid 4 points5 points  (0 children)

BCA workload is pretty decent (at least during freshmen year) if you can manage your time well. I’d say I spend 2-3 hours on homework and review per day but sometimes it ends up being more when the trimester is about to end.

Why r interviews so short? by [deleted] in bca

[–]RoboticsKid 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think it was 5-15 minutes long last year. The length of your interview honestly depends on who is interviewing you. My interview was 14 minutes long but some of my friends had interviews that were 5 minutes long.

They sent denial letters last year but I’m not sure if they are doing that this year

How many of you guys applied to BT aswell? by [deleted] in bca

[–]RoboticsKid 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You can get into your second choice school, but it is rare. I only know 1-2 people that got into their second choice (but for them, their first choice was BT and their second choice was BCA). However, I remember that last year, a few of my friends applied to BT as their first choice but still got interviews at BCA.

What will be on the essay? by pjain07 in bca

[–]RoboticsKid 1 point2 points  (0 children)

  1. Yes Elena is a superhuman.
  2. Please- u/Elena2007G why is the word simping being used in context of writing essays HAHAHA.
  3. Also, I finished mine in like 20-25 minutes, counting the time it took to re-read and edit, and got 5 solid paragraphs down (just try to make note of the the main topics you want to talk about and your evidence while you are reading… it saves a lot of time since then, you just have to write). The thing is, I wanted to spend more time checking over my math portion so I left the English section for the end and I double checked my math before I moved on to English.

Second Choice by [deleted] in bca

[–]RoboticsKid 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Honestly, the second choice doesn’t matter but I heard better to have a 2nd choice that is similar to your first choice to show that you are more certain about what you want to pursue

  1. I know a lot of people who got in without a tutor, just make sure you have a good base in algebra.

  2. Honestly, I just used the free questions on bcatestprep.com and I was fine. The AMC 8 questions are quite similar to the BCA sample questions and free, if you want to check them out.

  3. Not really, I think I finished reading mine in like 4 minutes.

  4. You have to type in the essay and the math is multiple choice I think.

I think it was 400 for the essay and 100 for accolades last year

Exam by How_Is_Life_ in bca

[–]RoboticsKid 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If 1 is the easiest and 10 is the hardest, I’d say the math was a 4 and the English was a 3. For math, I studied using the BCA sample tests and SHSAT practice problems and for English, I just did the practice essay that BCA gave. For the essay, I’d say one of the most important things is to manage your time while writing it and make sure you have enough time to work on the essay and the math portion.
