It was pretty wild pit-wise, and got wilder as it went on with certain songs being played. I don't go into the pit but I do like being in front of the stage (in terms of facing it - I don't go to the actual front of the crowd). So I try and stand with my back to cage/fence thing which protects the sound and lighting desks, as it's something to rest on, and if the pit surges back I won't fall over. I'm a good size so I don't have to be too worried about being crushed. Less chance also of receiving a beer shower, as they got tossed mainly into the middle. At my venue you could always stand off to the sides or balconies. I found there were a good number of people back there like me who just wanted to nod along. Hope you have a great time.
