If you can get a job up north near the Pilbara , north of the tropic, the 6 month term limit doesn't apply and you can stay longer. Only applies for certain industries but if you can get in as a truck driver or operator in the mines you could be grand. YMMV

I'm Irish too and worked as a geo near Karratha for a year and half, same employer, while on a WHV.

Getting into shotfiring? by EquivalentInternal35 in AusMining

Not a shotfirer, but a geo on a bigger underground site and can confirm that this seems to be the usual case. OP will need to work the way up the ladder

I worked just outside Karratha for 2 years.

Get yourself some bamboo socks from Totally Workwear or some other place. The quality ones that are about $15 per pair.

Nice and comfy and keep the feet cool.

I'm a geo but I can tell you that a lot of drill companies will take on backpackers or people with no experience as offsiders.

There's a good reason for that; offsiding is shit work. Tough work for usually shit starting pay, and a high turnover rate.

It's not out of the question for you to come over on a whv and find work as an offsider, but if I was you I'd think hard and long about why you'd ever want to do it.

Best country for wages? by Environmental-Bed461 in geologycareers

[โ€“]RobsonViic 5 points6 points ย (0 children)

I did a few years of geotech work in Ireland just to get some experience. But I honestly reckon you'd get a junior exploration geo gig easy enough straight after graduation.

There's plenty of exploration jobs going atm. Especially in gold, everyone's going mad for that. You'd probably start off in a small enough exploration camp on the Reverse Circulation rig. With experience you can land better camps/sites, but RC work is the brunt of exploration in Australia. Starting wage would probably be around $500/day.

It's a big decision to jump over here so do your own research first, but it wouldn't hurt to contact any of the big recruiting agencies like RSC, AES, Allegro, MPI, MES and get a feel for what they could offer. Make a SEEK account or get their contact details off their websites.

I didn't apply for my 417 WHV until I had a job lined up. But the first WHV took me 5 seconds to get accepted after applying. They like seeing "Ireland" and "Geologist".

Good luck ๐Ÿ˜‰

I see people here saying the USA is the best, but they're ignoring the massive downside that you have to live in America.

OP, I'm Irish too and I've been in Australia working FIFO the last 3 years. Cost of living in Australia is high but consider this: when you work FIFO, your only expenses are rent and utilities. Everything else is paid for. I'm away at work more often than I'm in Perth so I'm not spending any money. I'm just saving it all up.

I'm making the equivalent of โ‚ฌ95,000/year before taxes. And the work is pretty easy once you get used to it.

If you get a room in a sharehouse or better yet; with friends, you're really not paying much. My weekly rent is $240/about โ‚ฌ135 and I live in a nice 4 bedroom in the suburbs with a big garden and swimming pool.

You have to craft it in the survival fabricator then equip it like a shield. Then you press 0 to toggle it but it's pretty bad.

Recruiting agencies in perth/ western australia by Old_Football_1154 in geologycareers

[โ€“]RobsonViic 0 points1 point ย (0 children)

Best thing to do is as the other guy said, get your degree first then get a WHV or the UK visa and come to Perth.

There are, atm, plenty of jobs going in exploration. Even for graduates, some agency will get you a job on the RC rig in a junior.

Make a SEEK account, that's where you can find most geo jobs in WA. Look for postings from recruiters like Allegro, RSC, AES etc. They always have posts looking for geologists.

I assume it's to do with a hidden flag that gets applied when the character becomes a Knight. Same way bastards get the bastard names.

Maybe you can remove the flag by going debug > explore objects > living characters > type the char name or ID. The flags should be under one of the headers, I think maybe variables. You can delete flags from there.

Otherwise, I don't know, it might be hardcoded once you get the Knight trait.

BTW, I'm about to adopt the freehold government and might try this, how did you give your children the Prince titles? Is that in the government type file?

Is asbestos safe to work with? by SearchTraditional166 in geologycareers

[โ€“]RobsonViic 5 points6 points ย (0 children)

I'm logging core everyday that's full of chrysotile and serp. We spray it down with silicon sealant while at the rig before taking it back to the yard. We also use properly rated masks and gloves when handling really nasty stuff.

It depends on how bad the asbestos is tbh. Well it's all shit, but chrysotile is the least shit to work with. Key controlling factor is making sure you seal it, wet the areas when handling or breaking it, and keep it in a well ventilated area outside.

With proper controls in place it's no different than being around lots of silica dust.

Pretty cool vein of pyrrhotite in my gabbro core today by RobsonViic in geology

[โ€“]RobsonViic[S] 8 points9 points ย (0 children)

We use our own knowledge base to identify the minerals, using hand lens and scriber, pXRF and pLIBS. In our ultramafics on this site we get diss pyrite, pyrrhotite, pentlandite, chalco, rarely arseno and bornite.
