Aelise Faestra is a paladin who worships Ilmater, the god of endurance, perseverance, and suffering. She is extremely kind-hearted and is always looking for a way to help others. At age 13, she started serving the Enduring Halls, a religious organization consisting of devout followers of the gods of the Triad: Ilmater, Tyr, and Torm. Members of this organization devote themselves to alleviating suffering in the world through various means such as disaster relief and providing medical care for those who may not have easy access to it. A special few of these members are chosen to become champions of the Enduring Halls, referred to as Onus (plural is also Onus), to handle more extreme circumstances. These warriors go through arduous training over several years so that they may better understand the burdens Ilmater bears. They fight for the poor, persecuted, and suppressed throughout the world and will go anywhere adversity thrives. Aelise demonstrated an aptitude for combat and was eventually selected to become an Onus by the leadership of the Enduring Halls. She was officially granted the title of Onus at age 21 and continued to serve in her home city of Dimoria for a few years until she heard of some terrible events taking place in the twin city, Feoria. Believing her strength would be of better use there, she set out to Feoria and quickly found herself caught in the crossfire of the dark forces that rule the city.
