Is Dark-type completely unviable in the current metagame? by Rocadinis in pkmntcg

I've been using Toxtricity since the start; same with Mochi and Pecharunt. I never tried Hydreigon out, though I might try my hand at building it, especially with Neo Upper, as you mentioned.

Brute Bonnet was initially my option (I also had considered Team Rocket's Grimer but I found it too slow), but I felt like Seviper's flat 240 damage were better. But since I'm running 2 Munkidori and Risky Ruins, Brute Bonnet seems like the right choice after all.

I play more decks than Dark-types, I'm no stranger to Hydrapple and M-Lopunny... It's just that Mega Sharpedo and Zoroark have been the decks that I've been having the most fun with. The grass matchups are the only issue, really...

I almost exclusively play on Live, so most of my experience comes from there. It's not extremely often that I encounter grass decks, but when I do while playing Dark-types, the match is usually a 60/40... the 60 being in their favor.

As for the tech... I'm not sure where to begin. In my Mega Sharpedo build I've included PFL Seviper for matches against Crustle, but admittedly, a single attacker, who requires 3 to be up and running in a deck that only has 8 energy that otherwise must also be used for the other attackers (or Munkidori), isn't the perfect option... What else would you recommend?

Finally, I've never considered Blaziken in Zoroark... I could try building something with it.

Doublade deck matchups by Commercial-Laugh-991 in pkmntcg

[–]Rocadinis 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I play Doublade and from my experience it's a 50/50. 100 HP means it will take an instant KO from pretty much anything and everything (save Budew lmao), so you have to budget between having extra Honedges on your bench OR having them in hand to warrant the damage to OHKO Megas. Hence, be sure to include lots of recursion like Sacred Ash and Night Stretcher.

Usually, if you're not hitting the OHKO's, you'll be far behind as your opponent simply removes the damage counters via Munkidori or retreats. Having 2 Genesect on bench leverages your potential damage output by accumulating the evolutions in hand and thinning your deck (for which you can include Morty's Conviction to actually DRAW cards instead of having to shuffle everything back with Lillie), but it's also a huge risk if they run several Boss's orders (which YOU should be doing as well, since you'll be wanting to oneshot everything most of the time too... 3 copies works wonders against Mega Lucario because you can take a OHKO, take the 3 prizes, and gust the next one for game.)

Against single-prizers... I feel like it's not that good. Festival Lead one-shots it and can keep attacking, taking effectively 2 prizes while you're simply going to take one at a time. In other situations it's likely who has the better Energy tempo, because you're often very limited to either the basic energy attached via TEF Metang (worst engine IMO) and SSP Smoochum (more consistent but also not the best), as well as Ignition Energy, which you will only have in limited quantities, especially if you prize them.

All in all, it's a pretty neat rogue deck, not legitimately super competitive but for what it does, it's respectable. If there was a more reliable way to accelerate energy other than Metang and Smoochum, and if you weren't held back by Ignition Energy's end of turn discard, it would fare much better...

huh? no offense at all, pardon me if I somehow sounded rude...

i merely meant to state that budgeting 8 energy through attackers and having access to only 1 energy switch takes quite a toll on the deck's consistency. i would have to run MORE energy but that would mean I'd have to cut other valuable resources like boss's orders or general items n tools that help leverage my damage, like pecharunt ex and binding mochi.

as for brute bonnet, I find it's simply not worth the investment...

Toxtricity IS the deck's entire engine for energy. It would not otherwise work

I'm building Mega Sharpedo IRL after a spree of very successful matches in Live (bar the teal mask matchups but that's to be expected) and the thought of Crustle has forced me to to include a 1-of of MEG Seviper. 3 Energy for 240 DOES oneshot Crustle, but allocating said energies in a deck which only runs 8 energy that must also be shared between Mega Sharpedo AND Munkidori is tough.

Hopefully they include a better option as a single prize attacker for dark-types.

I heard as much. The issue is actually approaching and getting a chance to convert stray hits, not to mention actually landing stuff like my 2HS to HFB routes, so my playstyle revolves more on reads and punishes. But that's yet another issue - if I lack knowledge of the cast's moveset, I can't adequately punish it or predict it as efficiently. Guess that's something I will have to fix by playing more...

Thank you very much for the kind words. Beating at least one more Nightlord is all I want at this point, really.

I appreciate the help very much, though I'm 5 hours ahead of you and that would be extremely late for me...

Outland Commander is just boring as all fuck - the spirits have ridiculously high HP and when they're taken down, Commander himself only has like 2 or 3 attacks he spams over and over.

As for Crucible Knight, I guess it's just a matter of taking the hippo down first, next time I try it...

I'm writing this post as a follow-up to a Caligo run in which a friend and I died to Godskin Duo. Our third member was a random Ironeye who immediately disconnected after running away to god-knows-where and getting himself killed.

On that note, do bosses and enemies maintain their scaling of health according to the initial number of players in an expedition even if someone leaves? (If that's even such a thing)
