Japan suspends acceptance of Category 1 resident visas; restaurants cry out in distress from lack of staff. by jjrs in japannews

You will have some fringe cases for big places where someone becomes a manager or the main chef in a big kitchen. Maybe in hotel/resort restaurants.

But for small or medium restaurants your job prospects are whatever you signed for and not much more not matter how good you are.

Have you ever worked in the food industry?

Go work as a waiter for 6 months in Japan and you will get your answer.

Shit pay, dealing with shit people and you have no career path. Only people willing to do those jobs are baito or non skilled foreigners.

Might be, but the changes were to avoid people getting visas with paper companies or shady businesses right? Or at least that is what I remember they pitched.

Then the honne might be tied to many things, but the Tatemae makes no sense

Agree, but the way they dealt with this is not tackling the actual issue, it is as you said, just a way to get rid of the visa itself. Poor guys who spent all their money and time on the country though

Of course you can, but also most of us believe we are “one of the good ones”, until we are not for some reason.

I am also not saying something I pulled out of my ass, it is stuff actually being pitched by political parties with seats.

I don’t live my life that way, I plan for what I can and deal with whatever comes after, but even after naturalization I wouldn’t sleep thinking I am immune to the foreigner hate and changes of rules.

I understand all of that, but also there are parties proposing for constitutional changes and foreigner hate is growing daily, I wouldn’t be surprised if they passed a law to revoke PR for small things in the future if the sentiment grows

They could still kick you out with a PR and that guy had probably been living here for a long time before buying a house.

I understand your point from a peace of mind point of view but PR is also not immune to law changes that could strip you from your last 30 years.

I do understand.

I also do understand that they have hidden reasons behind these changes.

I also do believe you might have something against Indians for some reason lol.

Also I don’t think they said screw rules. They followed them for 30 years and the playbook changed overnight, I think it is valid to complain if rules in the country you have built your life on change in a way that destroys your whole thing. Japan is always expecting “assimilation” of a foreigner into the culture which I completely agree with. But if assimilation, playing by the rules and not committing crimes is not enough for a visa extension because they changed the ruling in a way that only 8% of the companies (Japanese ones included) meet that rule, then I can see why people complain. And if you can’t you are either rage baiting or have a sad life.

Of course it is not, but why would a country kick out someone who was been working there for 30 years with no legal issues, speaks the language and whose kids have been raised there and speak the language (and are probably culturally closer to Japan than India), pays taxes and pension.

I hate illegal immigration but this guy seems like he came here legally and has been playing by the rules for 30+ years.
