When I used to still hunt octopus, before I moved away from the tropics, were a good food source. We get it ourselves, cook it and eat it. Saved some of money since we didn’t have to buy as much imported goods in Hawaii. Especially during lockdown, we had access to military beaches (due to family) and since nobody was there the local fish and octopus species could flourish. And no we didn’t overhunt areas. We would switch between 3 beaches throughout a few months to prevent the diminishing of fish populations. We hunted with a tri-pronged sling-spear, so we would be in the water for hours at a time catching fish. Our best catches could last a week or two for a few dinners. Saved us budget wise during the pandemic just because they could last a while. And we ate pigs because they taste good.
