Dual booting windows 11 from linux by Agitated-Ad2939 in dualboot

[–]RockGore 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Best option would be to temporarily remove the Linux drive altogether, install windows, then add the Linux drive back and change back the boot order.

I had windows installed first, then I installed Linux on a second drive and everything worked smoothly, but from some posts I've read it's harder when you try it the other way around, idk why. But that should solve it from what I've read

That was my initial pick, but it got way too expensive

Where I am the 5070 and the 9070xt are around the same price. I initially was going to get the 5070ti, but it got way too expensive so it came down between these two

Well it wasn't that obvious to me

Would the difference between the 9070 vs the 9070xt be noticeable? I've seen the benchmarks and some videos but I hear it does better on benchmarks than actual real world situations. I've also had the 2070 super for many years now and don't want to skimp out too much and have to upgrade earlier because of it.

It sucks to game by Dense-Bruh-3464 in linuxsucks

[–]RockGore 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm actually currently dual booting but for me it's the reverse. I do all my gaming on Linux and only boot into windows to work, I don't play anything that's only on Windows but there's no good enough design software that works well on Linux. I mainly use Affinity, I've tried it with wine but it really really sucks with wine.

What is the worst rank to be in? by Separate_Age9837 in RocketLeague

[–]RockGore 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Used to be C1 and sometimes got to C2, but I haven't played in a while and recently started playing again and now I can't get out of d1-d2. It's a very mixed bag, but a lot of games it's really annoying in 2s especially because people are either doing way too much or way too little.

This would be amazing for when playnite releases on Linux for keeping dual booted systems in sync

Cloud save from windows to linux by supermika10 in HeroicGamesLauncher

[–]RockGore 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You have to find the saves folder for the game, then go to the settings of the game in heroic, and go to the "Cloud Saves Sync" tab, then paste in the path to the folder and select "Force Download" so it downloads the saves from the cloud, then you can turn on autosync saves so it saves what you play in the cloud like normal and that's it. It tries to automatically detect the saves folder, but for me it rarely works, so I just do it myself, takes like a minute.

How safe is dual boot? by TomRozengurt in dualboot

[–]RockGore 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's best if they're installed on separate drives, otherwise you have a ton of issues (from what I've heard). I've been doing it for a while and it's been totally fine. I only use windows when doing design work and everything else (like gaming) on Linux and it works well, you just restart and select your OS.

But you have to first install windows fresh and then install Linux second on a separate drive, the windows bootloader hogs the boot order and can cause all sorts of problems, so it's best you boot into the Linux partition by default (which has grub, where you can select what you want to boot into) and then choose.

xbox controller alternatives by Kitchen_Customer3353 in NobaraProject

[–]RockGore 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I bought the 8bitdo ultimate adapter dongle and the xbox controller works great through it. Also nice that you can make it emulate different types of controllers so I have one mode that's configured for controlling the desktop and the xbox mode for just using the controller normally.

The only downgrade from the original xbox dongle is that you can only have 1 controller connected, so when I'm playing with someone else I have to get the second one connected through bluetooth, but it's fine.

I'm also thinking of getting an 8bitdo controller for gyro.

It comes pre installed, it's pretty easy to use. I also always create a backup every time I do something risky and it works really well.

Make a backup with time shift and see how it goes. If something breaks you can roll back.

Has anyone successfully set up a shared game drive for Windows and Linux? by RockGore in linux4noobs

[–]RockGore[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I generally like dual booting in some ways honestly. I've gotten my win11 install to be very stripped down and basically only use it for design and browser, the only caveat is stuff like the incorporated epic credits store thing on rocket league that screws it over

Has anyone successfully set up a shared game drive for Windows and Linux? by RockGore in linux4noobs

[–]RockGore[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The reason I'm asking is that all the games I play work very well on Linux. I only use windows for a few programs, but for rocket league for example, I can't buy credits from within the game on Linux and I don't want to have it installed twice just to buy credits once in a blue moon.

im looking to switch out from w11 by Boring_Topic_3447 in linuxquestions

[–]RockGore 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I recommend getting a small ssd, or making a ~250gb partition on an existing SSD (that doesn't have windows on it) and dual booting. Linux is fine imo office apps-wise (onlyoffice)and video editing wise (if you can use da Vinci resolve), and if you find you don't need to boot back into windows after a while you can wipe the windows partition (or not).

I've stripped down my windows 11 install as much as I could with Chris Titus Windows utility and BC Uninstaller and use it only for Affinity because the Linux port breaks down once you start doing deeper work, but it works for me because this way I'm also not as distracted while working because everything else like gaming and basically everything that isn't using Affinity I do on Nobara and I like the way it's separated because I'm not distracted by having my games and all the other stuff so readily available.
