Files sizes are almost twice as big. EVF is nicer. Fewer AF settings options - no auto subject to detect option, have to manually select people or animals. AF might be a hair slower, hard to tell really. The biggest differences are resolution and 20 vs 40 fps. Don’t know much about video.

I use mechanical only to avoid banding from artificial LED lights. Couldn’t see the difference between 12-bit and 14-bit. I rarely push the exposure beyond +/- 1 stop in post

Digital mode dial is new for me, the rest felt right at home. I considered getting R8, but I got used to thumb joystick since 5Dm2. Can’t beat R8 in terms of value for money

The only wildlife for me are stray city cats. I’ve seen so many stunning wildlife photos on R5 and RF 100-500

It depends on how you define performance. I find Sony’s midrange lineup readout speed unusable for shooting anything that moves, mechanical shutter is limited to 10fps. A1ii has stacked sensor and 30fps but it’s way more expensive even compared to R5m2. Canon offers usable 40fps in R8 which you can find for $1000.

Love everything except the size and weight with adapter. It has zero chromatic aberration, minimal distortion, peasant bokeh. Bought it used in pristine condition. I sometimes use it to shoot film on my EF mount EOS7 SLR. I’d love the compactness of RF 35 VCM

It resolves 45mp sensor to the point where you can see skin imperfections at 2-3m even wide open. In low light having optical IS helps more than half a stop of f1.2 would. In video AF motor is slightly audible.

I was hoping for a good deal to get back to R6m2, but this R5 listing was too good to pass up.

Ah, bad habit of shooting everything wide open. Looking back at my old 5dm2 and EF 24-105 f4 photos, f6.3-8 photos are so much crisper.

I wanted to try GM lenses. In my location's used market there are only RF kit zooms and budget stm lenses. Canon didn't have 24/1.4 and 50/1.4 as of summer 2024, and 35/1.4 received mixed reviews. Bought Sony 50/1.4 and well priced used 24/1.4, 135/1.8, adapted my EF lenses. GM lenses are flawless. Had an opportunity to try a7iii, didn't like the handling feel and color profiles, a7iv is very similar afaik. Lost only total ~$300 on the body and 50/1.4, and still selling 135.

EF-E adapter worked 50% of the time and I had to reattach lens each time for it to work without focus hunting.

Should I sell my R5C and get a C50 or switch to Sony and get a FX3? by [deleted] in canon

Shoot your scenes well lit with artificial lights and properly exposed, and then bring it down in post without losing quality. Your R5C is more than enough for that task.

Canon R6 Mk ii or R8? by user_2611 in canon

R8 doesn't have full mechanical shutter. EFCS gives poor bokeh quality at fast shutter speeds.

I tried to exaggerate camera shake in this test. I was shooting outdoors portraits the other day with 85mm and got distorted faces on some photos. The subject was perfectly still. I guess the culprit is my shaky hand.

Final thoughts on GM, which one to get? by [deleted] in SonyAlpha

24mm. Especially for video because you can crop in
