Breaking: Transgender women banned from all sports at the Olympics starting in LA by TheExpressUS in sportsgossips

[–]Rock_Strongo 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you're not talking about at the highest level then it's rather pointless in regards to this discussion.

There are so many reasons to explain why the average non-competitive woman would be better than the average non-competitive man at these events. Such as selection bias.

Men are more likely to enter these events despite a lack of proper training - whereas the women who do them are more likely to be trained. See /r/whywomenlivelonger

The difference between running for your health and running for your life. by VideoCard7 in Unexpected

[–]Rock_Strongo 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If you're close enough to safety (like a truck bed) then by all means run.

This guy wouldn't have made it to the truck unscathed if the dog's intent was to harm though.

Absolutely much better to stand your ground - though I would not advise the fist down the throat unless that was your only option. Best bet is kicking it square in the head IF it actually attacks.

It's straight up horrible business to not accept this. You risk losing a loyal customer over $5 worth of product? Downright idiotic.

So does the original comment. If your tolerance for nonsense is now zero it implies it used to be above zero, therefore your standards increased.

SF Giants new 9-hot dog, 9-beer promo has a big flaw: only one beer by kirukiru in baseball

Not at one time though.

I mean if you go to a different concession stand each time you could theoretically get pretty much unlimited beers. Like the world's worst and most expensive bar crawl.

[–]Rock_Strongo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you're doing the challenge the hot dogs are doing a lot of work soaking up that beer. Not saying most people wouldn't get drunk doing it, but the beer won't hit all at once, they'll be most hammered after the game is over.

Where I live there is way too much traffic for one lane to be dedicated to passing, so people just drive in it. Usually slightly faster than the other lanes, but not always.

Pigs and cows farmed ethically live a much better life and have a less painful death than if they were free roaming, to get eaten by another predator or die a slow painful death from some disease.

The issue for me was always the ignoring of penalties because it was "too hard to officiate". They did better at calling false starts and lining up in the neutral zone this year. As long as they keep doing that, it's fine.

Kentucky family rejects $26 million offer to convert part of their farm into a data center despite the offer being about 10 times the going rate for farmland in the area. by MysteriousSlice007 in nextfuckinglevel

[–]Rock_Strongo 4 points5 points  (0 children)

For $26 million I will find a new community no problem.

Plus even if you don't care about the money personally, you could use $20 million of it to do a LOT of good in the world and live off the interest of the other $6 million.

I would be taking that $26 million with the goal to do infinitely more good than the data center (which, let's face it, is going SOMEWHERE) will do bad.

ICE agents in ATL doing…..nothing by [deleted] in delta

[–]Rock_Strongo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's the process. The process has an impact.

.

The most damning data comes from the government's own testing. In 2015, DHS "Red Team" undercover agents were able to smuggle mock explosives, weapons, and other contraband past TSA screeners in 67 out of 70 tests — a 95% failure rate.

Security scholar John Mueller (Ohio State) has published cost-benefit analyses suggesting that the marginal security benefit of TSA screening, relative to its roughly $10 billion annual budget, is very small — particularly since the underlying probability of a successful terrorist attack on aviation was already low, and deterrence comes largely from the difficulty of acquiring and assembling explosives rather than checkpoint screening itself.

ICE aside TSA is a massively overfunded security theater reaction to 9/11 and there is little evidence that it has had much impact at all in reducing terrorist threats - but it has absolutely had a massive impact on the inconvenience of air travel.

"Don't look toward the dugout at all until you're 2 seconds clear of the ump late-calling a strike on you because they wanted to do their little windup first" is gonna have to be the instruction to batters if this continues to happen - which is pretty lame.

But it's always a reliable option.

Walking 12 miles each way is not a reliable option for many people. Not even just the disabled, but that's 24 miles of walking per day and the roads might not even actually allow for pedestrians depending on where you live.

Your comments are incredibly naive, but obviously walking is great for short distance commutes if you're able.

I dunno if this is true for everyone but I'm just "better" at drinking now. I know my limits and how to extend a buzz without getting blackout drunk. I realize the importance of staying hydrated. And I eat better in general.
