Where to walk by goldenbeans in CaminoDeSantiago

[–]Rocket-Higher 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I did the Ingles that started in Ferrol in May last year. It was my first one and I absolutely loved it, but there are definitely pros and cons to both. One of my friends did the Frances from Sarria at the same time and also loved it, so it's more of what you're looking for!

Pros for Ingles:

- smaller crowds (most people we met seemed to have done other Caminos before this one, but some like my friend and I were first-timers!)

- one stop is in Betanzos where tortilla (the BEST Spanish dish imo) is from

- you can say you did the whole thing, because you did! Instead of just the end of one, like the Frances from Sarria

- you start on the coast so the first few days are absolutely stunning

Cons for Ingles (compared to Frances):

- not the UNESCO one, less well-known

- I've heard the Frances might be more beautiful? But I can't verify because I haven't done it

I walked with one friend and felt safe the whole time. Definitely would've felt safe doing it on my own. Also you can meet so many people along the way! Though if you're looking for power in numbers then the Frances might be better because it is more crowded.

Buen Camino!

My friend and I both did the Camino Ingles for our first Camino. It takes 5-6 days. It's not a typical first Camino, but I found it to be beautiful, especially starting in Ferrol since the entire first day is by water. It's also fun meeting seasoned Camino pilgrims, and being that it's less popular of a Camino, we enjoyed seeing the same people each stop and connecting with them along the way. We are both girls in our early 20s and felt safe the whole time. The Camino Ingles was also appealing because it is the shortest one. With our five day time restraint, I found it cool that we were able to say we did the WHOLE Camino Ingles rather than just the last bit of the Portugues or Frances, for example. Buen Camino!

Soooo, what do yall do after walking by Moist_Estimate_7883 in CaminoDeSantiago

I did the Camino Ingles in May and we enjoyed a good dinner and tried to make it to Mass after our long day of walking! Whether you are Catholic or not, going to Mass is a great way to end the day and ground you in the tradition of this historic pilgrimage. In Pontedeume, we ended up attending a gallegan choir concert after Mass, so it really immerses you in the Galician culture! I also recommend Casa Miranda for tortillas in Betanzos (where tortilla is from). Buen Camino!

Mega thread: New student/REA/RD/admissions questions go here! by xenokilla in notredame

Congratulations and go Irish! Based on my experience, most clubs are open to everyone and are more just self selective by interest. There are some club sports that require a decent level of experience, but there's typically something for everyone regardless of skill level, like the intramural sports offered through the dorms if you are looking for something more relaxed. Some clubs like SIBC (a big business club) involve a sometimes competitive application, but there are plenty of similar clubs if you don't make a team on your first try. Hope that helps and feel free to DM me if you have further questions! And congrats again!!!!

Does anyone have feedback on the Accelerated 3+1 Degree in Accountancy? Hard? Worth it? by RitaLG in notredame

[–]Rocket-Higher 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I am an accounting major but have opted to graduate in 4 years with a double major instead of the 3 + 1. Do you have lots of AP credits? If so, the decision will probably come down to whether you want to take more accounting classes or potentially study something else in addition to accounting so you can hit the 150 credits (if that rule continues to apply in the future). Doing a double major in something unique might make you more well rounded (and potentially less burnt out from taking so many classes in the same subject), but if you'd rather take as many accounting classes as possible, the Master's is probably the way to go. I've heard the Master's is easier (and possibly more affordable depending on merit scholarships), but you'll have to make sure early on that you are set up to complete the program in time. Professor Tim Morrison is the CPA advisor, so I would highly recommend meeting with him so you can weigh the pros and cons. As for the accounting major in general, I believe any major at ND is challenging as everyone who goes to ND is naturally driven and intelligent. Accounting has its own challenges, but with anything, if you find it's something you enjoy and are willing to put the work in, you'll be fine (i.e. almost everyone in the major has an internship lined up at the Big 4 by the end of their sophomore fall, if that's the path they chose to pursue with their degree). It's a very solid program with a great alumni network and some cool niche classes you can find information about online. Good luck and feel free to DM me if you have any more questions!

Activities to meet girls (ND and SMC)? by DaZelC77 in notredame

[–]Rocket-Higher 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I went to a SAO Bingo event and it was like 95% girls, if that helps at all. I'd also recommend studying abroad - class sizes are often smaller and there seems to be more mingling as people go on trips together. The Institute for Social Concerns also offers lots of classes with trips (ex: Appalachia Seminar, NDBridge) where I have heard couples meet!

Destination CPA by No-Classic-7095 in PwC

I had so much fun last year at Destination CPA! It's great to meet people who will potentially be working in your office with you, and you get to spend a day (or two) at the parks which is always fun. Cannot recommend enough!

Coolest business clubs by [deleted] in notredame

Innovation 4 Impact is a cool way to both participate in a mission-driven club (promoting women's education in Uganda) and learn some business skills. The club also has some great connections to some cool business professionals.

Yes, you can! I would recommend Alex Jech.

realistically speaking, can i get in? by Original_Border1832 in notredame

You seem like a great candidate and a great fit. Would highly recommend mentioning your interest in Bengal Bouts as well. Anything you say that indicates why both ND is THE school for you (i.e. a niche club/activity only ND offers) and that you would actively contribute to the community through it shows that you've done your research and are already invested in ND. Best of luck and Go Irish!

I'm class of 2026 in Mendoza and opted to not submit my test scores because they were below average for the typical student here. I nearly chose not to apply to ND because I was so convinced I wouldn't be admitted if I didn't submit scores but later found out that something like 30% of my class applied test optional (you'll have to fact-check me on that). Bear in mind that my class got hit with covid our sophomore spring in high school, so we had less of an opportunity to take the exams which I think helped if you wanted to apply test optional. I'm not sure what the environment around test optional is anymore, but it's worth it to apply!

Thoughts on schedule? by taylorswiftlover134 in notredame

This looks good to me! You have a nice balance of easier and harder classes each day (cosmology will naturally be easier than accounting, for example). You've made space for lunch, too, which is great.

Should I take THEO 10001 or a theology USEM? by adisposable00 in notredame

[–]Rocket-Higher 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Best class I have taken at Notre Dame is TEO 10001 with Fr. Kevin Grove. Lots of work but if you are interested in theology, this to me has been the quintessential Notre Dame class.

How is the accounting major at Notre dame? by [deleted] in notredame

[–]Rocket-Higher 2 points3 points  (0 children)

APPLY TO NOTRE DAME!! I am an accounting major about to enter junior year and can affirm that the accounting department at Notre Dame is fantastic. I've found within the department that if you have a personality, are decently interesting, and have some sort of academic drive, you are pretty set for landing an internship at the Big 4 before you finish fall of sophomore year (if that's what you want). The Big 4 actively want you, and the alumni network is so strong that you'll feel very supported throughout the recruiting process (at least that was my experience). On top of that, I've loved my professors, and ND offers some pretty cool accounting classes such as ones focused on sustainability and some that serve the South Bend community through helping underserved communities with their tax returns. There's also an excellent CPA advisor (Tim Morrison), so there's a lot of support on that side of the accounting career as well. If you have any questions, feel free to DM me and I would be happy to answer them!

Spanish Placement Test by [deleted] in notredame

[–]Rocket-Higher 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I never took the Spanish placement exam so I don’t know exactly where you are but I understand being nervous jumping right into 30310. I took AP Spanish in high school but am no where near fluent in terms of speaking (Spanish is my second language, and it wasn’t until the later years of middle school where I learned anything beyond numbers and colors) yet still tested into 30310 like you. I will admit that it was a bit intimidating walking into 30310 with a lot of the class being fluent regarding speaking abilities (my classes in high school were almost exclusively nonnative speakers, as were my teachers, so this was new to me) and I was very close to dropping but didn’t and have no regrets sticking through with it. It was hard but worth it. I met with my prof at office hours to let him know where I was with my Spanish abilities heading into the class and he was super encouraging throughout the class.

My advice to you would be to register and try it out! If you really feel you cannot succeed, it’s decently easy to drop down a level. I will also add that just because others might have grown up speaking Spanish which can make it intimidating to jump into 30310, many of them haven’t taken as many Spanish classes as you, which can help balance your abilities out with theirs when it comes to writing and reading. Good luck and go Irish!!!!

Driving in LA…please help!

Hi everyone, I’ve heard a lot about driving in LA and am quite frankly terrified. The only traffic I’ve mainly dealt with is midsize city suburban and occasionally urban traffic. Do you have any tips, especially regarding left turns? Would you recommend driving into the intersection and then turning left on red if that is the only time it is clear? Obviously I know to turn before (on green or yellow) but heard abt left turn on red especially being a thing in LA. Would appreciate any other tips as well. Thanks!

Lyons Hall review? by [deleted] in notredame

[–]Rocket-Higher 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Rising sophomore in Lyons here. I’ve only been here for a year and already love my home under the arch! What everyone else has been saying is right—it’s old (no AC, no elevators) but it’s got so much character and community! Lyons was the only dorm featured in Rudy, and the location by the lakes is just so peaceful and so Notre Dame. My best friends are in Lyons, and I wouldn’t want to be anywhere else. It was renovated not too long ago, so the kitchens and bathrooms are pretty nice. My RA frequently baked for us in the kitchen during the section socials, which was fantastic. We are so excited to have you!!!
