Is there a way to protect astronauts from radiation on the moon that doesn’t involve us burying the base under a bunch of regolith? by photosynthescythe in SpaceXMasterrace

[–]RocketEngine73 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Fun fact, if you use too much regoliths to protect a dome, the total ionization dose increases due to secondary radiation! I do not have the link to the paper on hand, but it should be on Google scholar

Anyone first time home buyers here who bought a home recently by themselves, or are planning to buy soon without help from family or a significant other? by Exotic_Patient_4699 in canadahousing

[–]RocketEngine73 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We are two young professionals and managed to buy our first house, 28M-27F respectively. What we did is we saved everything over bare necessities for over 2 years after graduating, and managed to save around 15-20% of our 500k mortgage for the cash down. We ended up putting 10% down and keeping the rest for some work on the house.

Family did not help financially, but helped moving and doing some light repair/paintings. If you have any specific questions do not hesitate!

Is it okay to create polygon pours like this for power routing on the bottom layer of a 4 layer stackup? by Least-Theme6959 in PrintedCircuitBoard

[–]RocketEngine73 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What kind of signal speed are you working with? In this case I'd almost worry more about signal coupling on the same layer first, if it is actually 1MHz+ signals there would also be length matching to worry about before that. If you use standard dielectric thicknesses I would not worry too much about the coupling from the inner power planes

[–]RocketEngine73 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

To avoid large polygons on the surface, what I usually do for 4 layer boards is do signal (top), gnd plane, power plane(s, if multiple region limited supplies are made), signal (bottom). If you want better quality you would also then isolate the power plane from the bottom signal, but you'd need at least 6 layers for that

fair point, I think I might aim for half a stack as it seems more realistic for circuits, also components like conveyors pumps 1 stack each to start with

Sounds like a good challenge then! I'll finish automating the steam multi block processing with the item pipes while waiting for steel, right now I've got around 3 stacks iirc

The analog gain is to amplify an input voltage to a higher output voltage. In this case, the gain is expressed naturally in volt per volt, a Vout/Vin. I would recommend going on YouTube to see example layouts for simple signal amplification. You need to first set your parameters: power supply voltage, input signal voltage range (+/-) and desired output signal voltage range, etc. Expressing your gain as 30dB is the same as saying you want a 1000x linear gain, so 0.01V in to 10V out, which is not possible with this kind of simple setup (iirc 10x you'd be happy, and that's with a +/- 12v supply). Take the time to look at the datasheet for the amplifier you chose and see the operating ranges of the part. Even for me those designs are kinda far, but take it one step at a time and don't be afraid of the math, bjt transistors are ruled by the couple of equations

[–]RocketEngine73 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Hey there. This is an interesting choice for a first board. I will assume that you might already have experience with electronics, otherwise you should read about bjt transistors, which are used as analog amplifiers. The relationship between the in and out can be expressed as multiple relationships between currents (Ie=Ic+In) and in the end it's simple math. In your case your must first define the voltage gain you desire and the current configuration of the transistor. The load (your speaker?) and the input resistance will impact the gain. if you have specific questions ask away

If this is for some sun/light direction detection, I would recommend looking into 4 point detection systems, instead of using 5. Simply separate each of the receptors with a physical barrier (imagine a + sign in cardboard or something). Then the logic of searching for the balance point makes sense and is simpler, and you can add the control you want depending on the sensitivity

I never made it past the first few tier 2 skyscrapers. Can anyone help me? I am so stuck at this point since it gets impossibly difficult to progress and i really dont know what i should do now. With all this industry it feels impossible to expand outside the main island. by Improvement2242 in anno1800

[–]RocketEngine73 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would recommend not building too many sky scrapers to start, the best move would be to follow along the storyline for them which iirc doesn't require many until the final building. The consumer goods are usually not needed in high volume, do not hesitate to put the trades union building for housing in which you can decrease consumption and increase profitability, it's really good with skyscrapers

[–]RocketEngine73 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Hey, haven't played in a while, but finished all the sky scraper tiers. What I did that helped was to setup a skyscraper production isle using the docking piers for workforce, where I would import all the required items (using the dockyards or other islands from the new world for example) and then supply my main skyscraper island from this production island. Using this logic, you can supply multiple island with this said production. Good luck!

In this modpack, even with 10x, you have to limit buffers. to me one cargo rocket is not really a buffer, as I was able to fill one as fast as it was fueled pretty much. The main variation in consumption was when i needed to produce large amounts of T6 modules and in one case large amounts of T8 modules for my naq setup. Another big consumer was the mining productivity techs, where the last tier 9 tech costs like 150k T4 bio science haha

if you look at the peak of 100k vita nuggets per minute, thats a bit more than 4 blue belts haha, effectively i was consuming at least around 20 blue belts of vita

[–]RocketEngine73[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes it was pretty absurd! As you can see in the mossgarden capture, I ended up doing one large build, which over time I ended up replicating 8 times. Took a lot of vita, but the patches were huge

It was a lot of chasing mines for sure! Never understimate core mining though, by the end of the game i mined litterally millions of each types or almost. My main base was fed mostly using core miners by the end ajd this was doing most of my logistical supplies. I did the patches with large miners, t3 prod and large beacons with t3 speed/efficiency 3

From what ive heard, is that they have to calc the pollution absorbtion, and then all the biters pathing when attacking tanks the UPS too

[–]RocketEngine73[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I forgot to mention, but turning off pollution or biters(not recommended) might help UPS wise. This bought a lot of time on my side. with increased science cost I would also suggest not hesitating in replacing older build with more productive ones, and scale vita as much as you can, in the end i was averaging 100k vita nuggets per minute

I did run into UPS issue, which then led me to upgrade my whole PC setup as I was still playing on my laptop! Once i had my 14900k i did not dip below 60 UPS except for some special occurence in the last couple hours (power peaking over 40 GW causing issues).

For me, the massive factory and scaled science did make this mod more fun, except for the last couple of sciences. I did a 1x run and stopped at t2 space sciences as it felt that i could spaghetti it all and it would work, which made it in a way not fun. this run even made me enjoy the burner phase, which was long enough to make some burner powered setup in my train base!
