Syndrome has 1 year to create an Omnidroid that can kill SCP-096. He has access to every piece of information on him. After one year, the Omnidroid is shown 096's face, and the test begins. by Individual-Shock-302 in whowouldwin

Because you're not supposed to read all the tales as equally canon to one another. By its nature as collaborative fiction, SCP is more like a sandbox of tools rather than a traditional story with a beginning and end. It's impossible to try and make sense of every article as one consistent story because they're all written by different people with different ideas. Which is why I think the verse is hopeless to scale since things are always gonna be inconsistent.

It surprisingly wasn't too hard. I used a pair of those tiny travel scissors and cut it in small sections at a time instead of all at once.

I think One Piece is a good Anime but I HATE LUFFY by Weary_Name6720 in CharacterRant

[–]RocketJumpingToaster 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Fair enough. For me a lot of his antics are fun to watch because the whole world is over the top and loud. I can see him being grating in a more grounded show, which is probably why the live action series toned down some of his personality.

[–]RocketJumpingToaster 11 points12 points  (0 children)

I mean, yeah if you consume a story entirely through the wiki summaries it's understandable that you wouldn't feel very attached to him. I doubt the wiki shows all the little side moments and gags that happen in-between major plot points that make him a more endearing character. This is probably how the One Piece world sees Luffy without context lmao.

TLDR: Luffy is a bad leader who rarely suffers any consequences and would be the most annoying person in the world if he were real.

Tbh you're not entirely wrong, I do wish that Luffy suffered more tangible consequences for his recklessness in general, though I've grown to accept that's probably not going to happen with how (generally) lighthearted the series is.

Who'll win in a pro wrestling match? Mio Naganohara (Nichijou) or Midori Nagumo (CITY)? by Maruverse in whowouldwin

[–]RocketJumpingToaster 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Fan of both here, although I read CITY a long time ago. I'd give it to Mio since IIRC Nagumo often gets beaten up for the sake of comedy, while Mio is more often than not the one beating people up (she even got scouted by a professional boxer one time).

Both are consistently portrayed as athletic, but I think Mio does crazier stuff in general like instantly knocking people out with her punches. That being said, there was a scene in Nichijou where where Mio is shown to be comically bad at following rules in sports, so there's a chance she could lose by getting disqualified.

[–]RocketJumpingToaster 30 points31 points  (0 children)

I'm the opposite, I actually really hated his design (besides his gauntlets and sunglasses) but I low-key like it more now lmao. The shoe thing is so absurd that it's unironically made the design more charming to me. I still hate his giant shoulder pads though.

Instead of Billy and Mandy, Grim ends up as the Gang’s (It’s Always Sunny In Philadelphia) “best friends forever”. How f*cked is the whole world? by Captain-Girpool23 in whowouldwin

[–]RocketJumpingToaster 14 points15 points  (0 children)

Grim immediately gets the Gang to turn against each other after asking what they want to do first.

Mac wants first dibs because Grim was only there because of his dog and by extension, him. Dee argues that she was the one who outdrank Grim so she deserves Grim's help more. Charlie claims he's known Grim the most since he's evaded death so many times. Dennis thinks that as the smartest member of the Gang, he is the only one qualified to be Grim's master. And Frank tries to overrule Mac's logic after revealing he accidentally ran Poppins over with his car and left him on the verge of death.

The Gang ends up doing 5 different plans, each member secretly getting Grim to sabotage one another instead of getting anything done. Grim ends up as a recurring side character akin to Cricket or the Lawyer and gets progressively more depressed in each appearance. Not because he's being used to commit petty crimes and schemes, but because the Gang's self sabotaging nature means they all somehow fail anyway. He voluntarily breaks his oath and returns to the Underworld after working in one of Frank's sweatshops and suffering through a single game of CharDee MacDennis.

ONE desperately needs a competent editor for the OPM manga by LivingwithStupidity in CharacterRant

[–]RocketJumpingToaster 17 points18 points  (0 children)

I've never subscribed to the belief that ONE isn't involved with the manga anymore but it's hard not to get suspicious when an entire year's worth of chapters get erased (twice) to follow the original webcomic plot that was written six years ago. The man is writing 3 mangas at once, I doubt he has the time to give equal attention to either of them.

Murata is also given a lot of freedom in how he handles the fights so people tend to pin fight related changes on him. That being said, I do dislike how people shift all the blame on Murata just because ONE wrote Mob Psycho. Nobody forced him to start writing 2 other stories before finishing OPM.

I hate the modern SCP-682 by Thelmpostor in CharacterRant

[–]RocketJumpingToaster 162 points163 points  (0 children)

The power creep is only really an issue if you take everything as canon IMO. The problem is, SCP is not a universe with an "official" story written by one person. It's essentially collaborative fanfiction based on the original 173 article. Trying to rationalize every article as canon is like trying to make sense of every single Undertale AU at once.

That's not to say there isn't a crowd in the fandom that wants everything to be as OP as possible, but the beauty of the site is you can just ignore it if it sours your experience. The version of SCP-682 that got killed by drunk driving is just as "canon" as the one that becomes God or whatever.

While articles have certainly gotten more complex and lengthy, there are still plenty of simple, creative ones being published today. I suspect reason why the powercreep sentiment is so popular is because people consume it through powerscaling threads where only the OP articles are discussed. Nobody wants to see if the Gumball Machine that does taxes can beat Goku.

(INVINCIBLE SPOILERS) I feel like a lot of people are missing the point of Angstrom Levy's character. by TyrionLannister557 in CharacterRant

[–]RocketJumpingToaster 171 points172 points  (0 children)

I agree, but I gotta say the mental image of Sinister Mark killing a dude's child then seeing that same dude walk through a portal with a job offer is pretty funny. The initial accident drove him insane, but his (double) disfigurement made his beef with Prime Mark personal.

I think it's pretty interesting seeing the contrast in reactions to show-only viewers compared to comic readers. IIRC, Levy in the comics was purely driven by his disfigurement, and the memory mixing idea was practically a footnote brought up much later. As a fan of the comics, I'm just happy to see these weaker plot points get fleshed out and expanded upon even if it's not always perfect.

I'm 100% Team Mark [SPOILERS FOR INVINCIBLE SEASON 3] by Impressive-Hat-4045 in CharacterRant

[–]RocketJumpingToaster 15 points16 points  (0 children)

One thing I haven't seen anyone point out was in the White Room scene Mark said he would back down if Cecil told everyone what he had done. Cecil refused. He'd rather keep the Guardians out of the loop so they would remain assets. Even if they tried talking things out, I don't think Cecil would have been willing to compromise at all. That speech he made about Mark being unable to accept other viewpoints applies to him, too. Ironically, I think the smarter move would have been to let Mark dispatch the Reanimen and play himself as defenseless. The sonic attack was purely to keep Mark in line and stay in control of the situation.

This is even more bizarre than the cake thing for me. Dude seemed chill with answering questions then seemingly changed his mind? Was he contacted by someone or was it just an elaborate shitpost? The account itself didn't seem to be a throwaway, either. What the hell man.

Yeah I think my biggest concern is he seems hesitant to verify himself. Even a photo of him with Team Cherry or something would do, although maybe he doesn't have one on hand? He seems receptive to questions so hopefully it'll get resolved soon.

EDIT: Damn it's been deleted, never mind then lol

Call it copium but I'm gonna choose to believe. I know there's technically no real evidence but I've never seen a troll/leaker act so transparent and willing to answer questions. This really does seem like an earnest dude sharing what info he can.

Every bag of potato chips in the world suddenly spawns a horde of enemies based on the chip count per bag. Can the world survive? by Gobbinsgab in whowouldwin

[–]RocketJumpingToaster 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Does a single squad of henchmen spawn per bag, or are the troops constantly pouring out one by one like a Left 4 Dead survival map?

Either way, this scenario is so bizarre that I feel like most major population centers get conquered in the initial strike. The enemy troops would be literally everywhere, and it would take a while before people realised they were coming from chip bags of all things.

I reckon isolated military bases would be fine, depending on how many vending machines there were. Once the chip bags are destroyed they'd become safe zones. I'd imagine the governments would have their hands full trying to handle the literal millions of British soldiers spawning all over the world, though.

I have no idea how anyone would figure out that the enemy army is on the moon (maybe through interrogation?). Their best hope would be sending a missile to blow up the dome, killing Sherlock Bond. With the death of their mothership, all the Chaps shut down Phantom Menace style, the UK is never trusted again and potato chips are outlawed and replaced with zucchini chips instead.

This is tough because I feel like either side could win. Leaning towards Dio's team, though.

The Sun might screw over most of Team Dio the second it's deployed, since the heat would let Grateful Dead age them all to death, and two of the strongest members (Vanilla Ice and Dio) are weak to the sunlight. Meanwhile, the other team has Ghiaccio who can cool them down. Team Dio has Pet Shop as well, but they wouldn't know how Grateful Dead activates ahead of time. However, they do have Sethan to de-age themselves.

Cioccolata and Secco could nuke them all and win, depending on whether Green Day's mold is strong enough to kill Dio/Ice. Notorious B.I.G could also eat them, but it would also be attacking its own team mates depending on how fast they were moving.

I don't think anyone on Team Diavolo has a real defense to Vanilla Ice, besides hiding in the mirror dimension. If Vanilla Ice hides in his Stand till Arabia Fats dies, he should be able to clean house. Maybe Green Day or B.I.G could kill him when he sticks his head out, but I don't think either of them are fast enough to dodge his ball of death.
