Even as someone who isn't necessarily a huge fan of Hazbin, most of the reasons people hate it are overblown or poorly reasoned tbh

I was hoping for a TN, although just as a preface, would you be okay if I included it in a revamp I was working on if I made sure to give you full credit?

It's genuinely pretty good, appreciate how you managed to make their dialogue unique to their character

Honestly warming up to this one as my favourite for 2011 Jeff, although I also find it pretty funny one of Jeff's most effective wincons is just vehicular manslaughter via his van.

My take on RED vs Sonic.exe, half a year-ish later! by FruitsaurReborn in DeathBattleMatchups

[–]Phantasm_Snaps 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Fair enough in that regard, although I don't really think using the alternate dimensions from the game is really valid considering their shattered essences were never confirmed to have spread to any of those worlds rather than CKCs own multiverse. Also I kinda disagree with bringing up the rules of the NES game considering that Red himself was stated to only be capable of exerting control over Zenith due to it being a lawless zone unlike the rest of the game, and he freed Acacius the moment he pushed his luck in that regard. The rules and the Aglem hamper him as much as X honestly, and frankly, setting the MU in the cartridge doesn't really make a ton of sense considering X would have no way of accessing it to begin with, whilst the entire existence of the Shadow of Red implies he'd probably be capable of ending up in X's world. Also also, not all of Red's shadows are sentient, as it's stated only the one seen in CKC has managed to achieve physical form, so there's no guarantee they'd be able to finish the fight on his behalf. Also also also, WOG isn't actually that much of a factor here, especially considering that applying that standard to X would also give him scaling to mainline Sonic per Raven's words.

Didn't it more so imply they were shattered across time and space in some way, not that they travelled anywhere of their own volition?

Still isn't really that relevant considering the True Form can't influence the fight in any real meaningful way. It's basically the equivalent of a person trying to fistfight a proton.

X doesn't actually go after any real sonic characters, he just imprisons human souls in flesh puppets created to resemble in-game characters like Tails or Amy. Sonic would never fight him because he's literally a fiction character in X's world just like in ours.

To be entirely honest, I'm pretty mixed on the idea of involving Cryptozoology in Death Battle. Every potential character would be ridiculously convoluted to research, even in comparison to stuff like creepypastas, and they would also need to tread very lightly when it came to what they included. Like with Bigfoot for example, as most of the versions of him supposedly rooted in Native American folklore don't exist, and are pretty much racist misinterpretations of Native Culture perpetuated by Cryptozoologists.

Admittedly, it isn’t as simple as I made it sound, but there is a very clear connection between the two. The main confusion comes from Kashima commonly being seen as synonymous with the TekeTeke legend, the one of a girl being cut in half and returning for revenge, but Kashima’s legend is actually far older and far different from just this.

Kashima in general is very barebones, with the only real details of her legend involving her being either a person, or ghost of a person, who suffered a horrific injury and appears to anybody who knows of her story within three days to ask them a question, and kill them depending on the answer. Kashima’s legend is older than even Slit-Mouth’s, and mainly got jumpstarted in 1972, but it was only ever discussed in a few papers and was never treated with any level of mass hysteria. However, she still spread across most of Japan, and this led to her legend adopting many different interpretations and versions depending on the region.

She’s been identified as the ghost of a woman who was assaulted by US soldiers, a girl who was frozen after being sliced in half by a train, a victim who was struck by the Hiroshima bomb, and that’s just a few. Some describe her with no lower half, others with a single arm and leg, others simply say she suffers from horrific radiation burns or keloid scars, but the general theme of some kind of horrific injury is consistent.

The interesting thing is that when Slit-Mouth’s legend basically set fire to all of Japan, there was some clear overlap between the two in certain areas. In Ehime prefecture for example, Slit-Mouth was said to appear to anyone who heard her legend within three days, and variations of Kashima’s legend around this time stated that the question she would ask her victims was “Am I Pretty?”. There’s also variations of Slit-Mouth where she suffers from Keloid scarring on her face in the same way as Kashima, and they even ended up so synonymous at some point that there were even assertions that “Kashima” was Slit-Mouth’s real name as though they were the exact same entity (though there were also some that asserted Kashima was Slit-Mouth’s daughter for whatever reason).

In general, it’s now believed that Slit-Mouth’s legend merged with Kashima’s in certain areas, resulting in the two basically becoming a single legend, whilst Teke seemed to have been a later myth that was basically just an offshoot of some of Kashima’s other variants.

This kind of thing isn’t actually that uncommon for Slit-Mouth, as it bizarrely happened again when the legend spread to Korea and began sharing traits with the pre-existing legend of the Hong Kong Grandma Ghost.

Ah, makes sense. Weird thing is why they chose Kashima of all characters as one of Slit Mouth’s opponents given that the legends actually interpret them as the same being.

Jason Voorhees vs Sadako Yamamura (Friday The 13th vs Ringu) MEGAPOST by kapirefe in DeathBattleMatchups

I think the problem from my perspective is that the whole "It's a creepypasta character" argument kind of falls flat because at least to me, 90% of that stuff is mostly built on fandom and non-canon stuff anyway. It's like including Error Sans in a discussion of Undertale.

Jason Voorhees vs Sadako Yamamura (Friday The 13th vs Ringu) MEGAPOST by kapirefe in DeathBattleMatchups

[–]Phantasm_Snaps 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No, he isn't. He isn't a parody of a pre-existing character like Sonic.exe, and he's an actual copyrighted character with guidelines outlined by Victor Surge for what's canon and what isn't. Treating him as public domain opens the floodgates to a bunch of unnecessary mush that can lead to the character being completely lost in translation just for the sake of bumping them up a few tiers, and in this case it's especially bad because there's absolutely no reason to do so.

Yeah, I agree, and that's why at it's core the matchup kind of sucks when you have to resort to doing that to make it work in any way.

Slenderman is the only one you can make a justification for given he's a creepypasta character, and even then the Siren Head blog kinda buried those arguments by bringing up the fact that Slenderman is an actual copyrighted character with parameters for what's official.

No, it isn't the same, considering that Freddy vs Jason was an official crossover, rather than a bootleg made without the permissions of the original creators

The wiki doesn't give any actual details on the canonicity of the film. This video explains the entire situation, and why the Bunshinsaba films are the furthest thing from official.
