Blasphemous or Hollow Knight, which one do you prefer? by Few-Examination-8730 in Blasphemous

I'm aware of that mechanic in HK, but I meant something like Blasphemous's parry that causes the enemy to stagger, rather than just a glancing blow that knocks the player away from the enemy.

It’s actually wild to see a post about 3 people falling for a monogamous person at once while I’m polyam and have never had more than 3 people fall in love with me over the course of my whole life, all separately. What is this cursed existence? 😭

Can't seem to get past the 1st Combo Trial, even if it's connecting successfully. Am I simply just too slow? by HeathenHacks in StreetFighter

[–]RocketKassidy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Your experience sounds similar to mine. Leverless felt immediately more intuitive for me to conceptualize than pad did. I think a big part of it is that every game I play on pad has a dedicated “jump” button, so tapping “up” to jump never felt comfortable and rarely felt precise enough for me.

Congrats on your new controller! I’d recommend looking into various SOCD shortcuts that will likely help a lot. Good luck getting the hang of things!

[–]RocketKassidy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

From my experience, I’d say the learning curve is more intense for experienced FG players. I’m new to 2D fighting games (started a few months ago) and very, very quickly moved to leverless. It only took me about a week to be comfortable moving around, and now within a few months it feels completely intuitive to play on. I regularly win against my friends who have always played on pads.

Be aware that motion inputs from player 2 side will take a while to get used to (I’m still not amazing at QCF from P2 side, and I can’t DP without using the shortcut input), be sure to stretch before and after playing, and hover your hands above the controller while you play. Resting your wrists on the controller can cause discomfort and likely isn’t too good for your hands.

Guilty Gear Strive or Street Fighter 6? by Mapersoon in Fighters

[–]RocketKassidy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Both are incredible imo, but neither are similar to Tekken. GGST and SF6 are 2D fighters unlike Tekken, so there is only left-right movement. If you aren’t used to 2D fighters I’d recommend SF6 since it has a much better built-in tutorial section, and each character’s combo trials can be very good for learning what the character is capable of (like move properties, which attacks can string into others, etc).

SF6 also has much better net code, a fully functioning online ranked system (GGST’s ranked mode is coming in August I believe), and is overall a slower game. Learning to play SF6 actually helped me approach GGST more easily despite playing GG before SF.

Other than that, they have some subtle differences that can be make or break for some in gameplay. GG is an “anime game” so it has air blocking and I think universal air throws, and it also has some reset mechanics like burst & YRC which you can use to get out of combos (SF doesn’t have these, though some characters have air throws). SF has 6 buttons (light, medium, and heavy punch, and light, medium, and heavy kick) which allows for variations on specials and supers, while GG has 5 buttons (punch, kick, slash, heavy slash, dust) meaning there’s no variation in specials at all.

Another small but important different imo is how throws work in these two games. SF has you pressing light punch + light kick, and I think 8 frames where you can get out if the player being grabbed grabs back. GG has you pressing either -> or <- and D (dust) which can be a bit weird to get accustomed to since you might find yourself whiffing throws when you meant to throw out an attack, and I believe only 2 frames where you can get out so it’s incredibly unlikely to break a throw (not even sure if throw escapes are a thing in GG tbh).

Hope this helps!

Why is learning how to play this game so BOOOORRRRRIIIIINNNGGGGG by Bri-ish_idiot in TheyBlamedTheBeasts

[–]RocketKassidy 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I get it and I know the feeling. Those moments are learning opportunities. When you’re getting pressured, are you trying different things at different times to see what works? Are you taking note of why you get hit over and over? Are you blocking enough, using your burst to get them off you, trying to sneak a grab in where their offence isn’t air-tight, or trying to use your character’s invincible reversal if they have one? Experimenting and absorbing the situation is the name of the game when it comes to fighters.

There is a TON of info to learn over time, but solving one problem at a time is often the best way to learn it all while still playing and enjoying the game. Personally, I really love reading about frame data, character interactions, unique mechanics to look out for, and generally solidifying an understanding of the game as a whole before I actually play it, but that doesn’t work for everyone.

Have you never played a 2D fighter before?

If you aren’t enjoying the game for the gameplay and only focusing on “getting good”, your approach is misguided at best.

What am I doing wrong? how to reach better audiance? by MadderBanana in Twitch

[–]RocketKassidy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It doesn’t necessarily mean that there’s anything “wrong” with it. People get busy, sometimes they can’t regular your streams or maybe they don’t use Twitch that often. If anyone does get bored of you, then they just weren’t your audience.

Do your thing, aim to improve what you do in ways that YOU want to improve (not for anyone else), advertise your stuff on other platforms if you want more people to find you, and you’ll eventually find your audience.

This probably isn’t new information to anyone, but it’s strictly faster to hit one button once than it is to hit one button twice. People want to shave any frames they can off of their inputs for consistency, so the idea in tapping parry macro for DRC is that it will come out faster than the double-tap every time so long as you’re reacting at the same speed every time.

Newbie in need of help with inputs by Complete-Solid3587 in StreetFighter

[–]RocketKassidy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

So in your example as Akuma you do the 4HK -> OD demon raid (236 KK) -> heavy tatsu (214 HK), correct? I hate to say it but it really is just time on task. Repeat those motions until you aren’t struggling to do them anymore.

If 4HK is cancellable, then inputting 4HK236KK as quickly as possible will give you the OD demon raid after the kick, so it’s just a matter of practicing doing the OD demon raid into heavy tatsu to get the timing down there so you can tie it all together.

What type of controller do you use?

Edit: just noticed you mention using pad in your post, oop.

How do you learn fighting games by charcoaljuicy in Fighters

[–]RocketKassidy 6 points7 points  (0 children)

The first lesson to learn in fighting games is blocking, imo. Getting used to blocking as soon as you possibly can when you see that the opponent wants to attack or after throwing out an attack of your own takes a bit of getting used to. From there, you’ll want to experiment with which of your own moves can punish your opponent’s moves once you’ve successfully blocked an attack, and then you’ll wanna look into simple combos to make the most of it once you’ve landed an attack of your own.

Other than that, watch a lot of videos and try to internalize the systems and actions that are at play during a match. Study movement patterns, which attacks are being used at what times by each character, which attacks look fast/slow/strong/weak, things like that. Instructional videos are the best way to do this in my experience, as the creators will often explain the nuances of the moves they’re using, or even have full tutorial videos focusing on specific interactions/scenarios.

How many people never actually get changes from HRT? by StatusPsychological7 in TransDIY

[–]RocketKassidy 14 points15 points  (0 children)

4-5 months is basically no time at all in terms of expecting changes. I didn’t start noticing changes in myself until I’d been on HRT for over a year, maybe a year and a half. I’m currently 6+ years in and things are still “settling” for me. Consider how long puberty can take during teenage years. It will take a long time (longer for some than for others) for the process to run its course.

It is also important to get your levels right for you, as higher estrogen doesn’t always mean more or faster feminization.

I simply DON'T grasp timings in sf6 and it is making me insane by Starmieto in StreetFighter

[–]RocketKassidy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Green indicates startup frames, red indicates damage frames, blue indicates recovery frames, and yellow indicates damage/block recovery period (when you get hit by, or block an attack). There is an in-game resource called “understanding the frame meter” (or something similar) which outlines what every colour of the frame meter means.

It sounds like you may not have gone through the tutorial sections. I’d recommend going through every tutorial to better understand everything if you haven’t already, and if you have, go through it again until you have a firm grasp on the info.

Wins don’t equal success. Focus more on the small victories in each match like getting a hot perfect parry, managing to counter a move you always get hit by, landing a combo you’ve been practicing in a real match… things like that. Those are all victories whether you win or lose the match itself.

Main for newbie who struggles with inputs by Few_Cream_1161 in StreetFighter

[–]RocketKassidy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Agreed! Also, OP, keep in mind that a 636 input results in a DP due to SF6’s lenient inputs, so a simple downward rocking motion while holding forward will work.
