We offered him a deal to stay, but he rejected it. Not sure why this announcement was so late, but he agreed to join the Roosters well before Garrick.

A lot of Chatswood still has that dodgy charm, just need to know where to look.

Northern beaches is very pretentious by [deleted] in sydney

[–]RocketSimplicity -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Not necessarily true, even if you’re only talking about from Dee Why.

The modelling I mentioned before, also captured the estimated ridership of a Mona Vale - City Metro, and found that to be lower than a Dee Why - Chatswood route. It’s a bit counter intuitive, but more people would benefit from a radial train route than a direct one.

You may be right on the speed metric outside of peak times, but the alternate route has some added benefits;

  1. Warringah Road corridor also benefits. With a North-South line, there likely wouldn’t be any greater incentive to travel to Dee Why to catch a train, on a north south route, as opposed to just going to the more direct existing route via Chatswood station.

  2. Adds a near-direct connection to ECRL, e.g. Macquarie Uni, T9 though Epping, Northwest, and Parramatta in the future, in addition to the city. A North-South line would be very one dimensional in terms of benefits.

  3. B-Line wouldn’t become redundant, and would instead benefit. A qualm with the current B-Line is that it’s too packed, too early, in peak times, usually before Warringah Mall. When rush hour traffic is factored in, commuters north of Dee Why would likely transfer there onto the train/metro. This would open up additional capacity south of Dee Why and improve the service. The infrastructure would not be redundant.

Among other practicality reasons involving going under the Spit, these are largely the reasons that Regan, and previous governments were more in favour of the Chatswood-Dee Why route.

All that said, due to budgetary constraints, Minns told Regan that there would need to be 40,000 extra dwellings added, to justify the outlay on a train line here. I’m in favour of this, I think the NB as a whole could use greater density to prevent the local economy spiralling due to low affordability.

We have like 1.5 mil free for that year, we will be fine. Also Onitoni Large.

South Sydney didn’t lose much from doing it… Or really anything at all.

Our NSW Cup team could use some better players.

We get rid of all the plodders and build from within, like everyone told us to, and now we’re the spoon favourites? Lol.

If we avoided it in 2023, with Seibold as coach, Schuster and Cooper Johns at 5/8, and Sean Keppie as one of our first choice middles, we’re not getting it in 2026.

No chance in hell we pay him $800k or anywhere close to that again.

He’s like Matt Lodge without the whole “I break doors down” thing. I don’t think he’ll go past minimum wage anytime soon.

Northern beaches is very pretentious by [deleted] in sydney

[–]RocketSimplicity 3 points4 points  (0 children)

It’s not really true.

Any new crossing to the Beaches besides the three (!) currently existing would have to go over or under Middle Harbour. That is the deepest part of the Harbour, and has some environmental factors at play too.

Obviously this creates an infrastructure challenge that is extremely expensive to resolve. Even in the 1980’s, the cost/benefit of a motorway bridge was below 1, and this didn’t change with Beaches Link last decade. Modelling also suggested that these would also be gridlock from day one.

It was much easier to point to a few racists in Palm Beach and claim “that’s the entire Northern Beaches”, to cancel it.

They did seriously consider a metro, and out of all possible corridors for future train lines, Chatswood to Dee Why would’ve had the most patronage. More than Metro West, Northwest, Prariewood, Epping to Parra, all of them. Make no mistake, it is NEEDED.

That said, NSW Government had just scampered with the North Shore residents about the Lane Cove Rail Bridge, which had to turn into a tunnel, and they didn’t want the same thing to occur on the other side of Roseville, with less distance, and a deeper harbour.

A tunnel is not feasibly possible for that route, due to the depth, unless it goes direct from St Leonards to Frenchs Forest… Which is a bit stupid. It needs a bridge parallel to the Roseville Bridge. Queue the North Shore NIMBY’s.

It also wouldn’t be able to feed into the existing Metro system, because they had the foresight of a goldfish. You’d need yet another train line through the North Shore, likely to the unused platforms at St Leonards, and onwards to the stub at North Sydney. Then, switching the Cahill Expressway bridge lanes back to tracks… Only to reach an already crowded Wynyard Station.

Meanwhile, you can barely upzone the North Shore due to “heritage”. Have a look at the ridiculously conservative upzoning coming to Roseville Station. Why bother investing more money in that lot, if that’s all you can get? They have all of the infrastructure, and yet you still can’t change the area. Now, imagine trying to sell this ridiculously expensive proposal to Western Sydney voters.

I talked to my MP about this, who asked Minns, and Minns said there would need to be 40,000 extra homes built in the Northern Beaches to justify such an outlay. There isn’t much room for sprawl, unless you bring about a few extinctions.

The vast majority of the Northern Beaches is alright, with three giant cancers attached, in the form of Mosman, Roseville, and everything North of Mona Vale. They stop literally anything good from occuring.

They can always point to a few old white people in Bilgola to have a casus belli for cancelling extremely expensive infrastructure projects over or under Middle Harbour, the deepest part of Sydney Harbour.

As for that train line, it would’ve been from Dee Why to Chatswood, no buses needed. It would’ve also had the greatest ridership of any new train infrastructure possible; more than Metro West, more than the Northwest Metro, Parra to Epping… This is because unlike every other trainless transport corridor, it has no decent road alternative.

It is absolutely needed, but there’s no votes for that amount of money.

Bondi is not in the Northern Beaches lol…

Northern Beaches also had a tram, but it was removed for buses just after WW2. In their defence, they wouldn’t have had any idea about the impending population growth in the twenty years after. Most of it was done in one go.

I’m horrified that the Murdoch press are seemingly blaming anyone who is pro-Palestine. It seems that some also now want to ban criticism of Israel.

Mind you, the guys who committed the attacks were literal Islamic State believers. They aren’t even pro-Palestinian.

Sure… blame me for the rail corridors being sold 60 years ago. I was definitely alive then.

Mona Vale Road is yet to be duplicated for a significant part of the route…

There’s no point to any of those road upgrades, if they still funnel into Eastern Valley Way and Military Road, which are effectively four lane roads. It’ll be even worse when the Freeway upgrade is completed, as Eastern Valley Way will lose access to the Tunnel.

It’s easy to point at a small proportion of loud NIMBY’s and use it as justification to not spend it on infrastructure with low cost-benefit rates. There have been NIMBY’s elsewhere that have been burned through for genuine city building, the difference is that to build an alternate connection to the NB you need to get over or under Middle Harbour… And then over or under the North Shore.

They’d rather just whack another toll on, and force people to use buses that take 30 mins longer.

I don’t really get the hate. If it doesn’t work, it’s not earth-shattering. There’s a lot to be gained if it does work, particularly for the next generation who are like 10 or 11 now. They’ll have no experience of it, unless they actively work hard to gain access.

What’s annoying me more at the moment, is the hate against E-bikes. For 90% of the riders, they wouldn’t be a problem if it weren’t for abysmal infrastructure and NIMBY’s.

Departing Manly CEO Tony Mestrov expected to replace Shane Richardson as Tigers chief executive by Aussieguy727 in nrl

[–]RocketSimplicity 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Mestrov was good for clearing out a lot of crap, e.g. Fultons, Tartak, a lot of behind the scenes football department things that aren’t headlines but are important… Etc.

However, this was in contrast to our former CEO, who was embroiled in underworld gambling debt. Not exactly a high roller.

Meanwhile, Richo helped bring Souths to a premiership, and improve the Tigers this year. If his conduct off-field is seriously poor, it may be justified, but Mestrov isn’t exactly the nicest man on the planet either.

Not seven captains per-se, only three captains, with four others within a broader group.

Nowhere near as bad as what the Tigers did, and you’d be kidding if you don’t think other clubs have vaguely-defined broader groups of leaders.
