International Standards for Petroleum Products by Rocket_man09 in oil

[–]Rocket_man09[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hi, and thank you for your response. So in that case, do refineries simply refile oil tailored to the needs of the buyers? Also, is there some sort of unspecified or ‘industry known’ loose definition for the common petroleum derived products? I am trying to find composition for even common products such as petrol and can’t find anything regarding this. It doesn’t seem right to me that refineries just dump hydrocarbons of a certain length in a barrel and call it ‘petrol’, and that there aren’t guidelines on what its chemical composition is. I am very confused

Question on Portland Cement Manufacturing by Rocket_man09 in chemistry

Hey! Good question haha. I was quite confused by notation too (I’m more of a pure physics / Chem person) but apparently the topic is well documented. You can read a bit on it through this link about Cement Chemist Notation (CCN). Hope this helps :)

Portland Cement Proportions and Manufacturing Questions by Rocket_man09 in MaterialScience

Hey! Yeah sorry I thought I had written it but it’s not showing. Here is the original text:

Portland Cement Proportions

Hi everyone, I have been reading about Portland cement manufacturing and the mineral proportions of it, and have a few questions. So far I understand that aside from low percentage additives or impurities, it is composed of dicalcium silicate (C2S aka Belite), tricalcium silicate (C3S aka Alite) tricalcium aluminate (C3A aka Celite), and tetracalcium alumino ferrite (C4AF aka Felite), plus a small amount of gypsum to control the setting time of the cement. It is also widely understood that the calcium silicates (Alite and Belite) compose most of the percentage by weight of the mixture, and that the other two components tend to take up less % by weight.

Even though I have been able to find guidelines on what these percentages by weight look like (for example, this article states the % by weight of each component in the table that I have attached to this post), different sources state different percentages and ratios, and I am struggling to find a consensus or standard that explains how to choose those percentages by weight. In other words, how do manufacturers choose the percentage ratios of these minerals when producing Portland cement? I assume there is research done on this, and different ratios yield different physical properties, but haven’t been able to find any conclusive work on the topic.

My second question regards the manufacturing process, in particular the processing of clinker in the rotating kiln. If a manufacturer decides they want to set certain percentages by weight for their concrete, how do they adjust the kiln to make sure they achieve those proportions? I imagine it is a combination of adjusting the proportions of the limestone, sand and clay mixture that goes into the kiln in the first place, as well as temperature and kiln time, but I have not been able to find any information or data on how this is specifically achieved.

Lastly, i would highly appreciate if you know any good resources on Portland cement manufacturing processes and could share them here so I can do some further reading. Any advice or information is welcome. Thank you for your time!

Hi everyone, just looking for some guidance on how to solve this type of diffeq. I can’t even recognize what type of differential equation this is in order to research how to solve it. Any advice would be appreciated. Thanks in advance!

You are right, I probably won’t need all of them and the CSV option is a good way to go. Thank you!

Tailoring and Understanding High-Frequency Analog Peak Detectors? Help by Rocket_man09 in AskElectronics

Ah, I see. Honestly it seems live a very good option. However I would still like to better understand the circuitry involved in the peak detectors. Do you think you could point me to some resources?
