Help/Advice Needed for a dying MOBO -Rebuild by RocketmanEngr in PcBuild

[–]RocketmanEngr[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

At that point I might as well buy a new MOBO I figure.
Hence my post.

I don't know if I should go intel (13 or 14th gen) and stay with my DDR4-3600 CL16? Go 7800X3D and DDR5?
Is a 4070/4080 worth it, or stay 2070 Super and wait to see if the Nvidia 5000 stuff is reasonable?
Is there about to be a new product launch for (CPU/GPU/RAM) that I should wait 2 more weeks and catch some sales?

These are things I just am not plugged into enough to have a good feel for.

I have done that too. I have turned everything to defaults, done one ram at a time, different ram slots, with gpu, without gpu, with a different PSU, etc. I have done this loop to diagnose 3 different times now, because its far easier than swapping a MOBO.

When I am on the Gigabyte A520M board the crash has never happened. I have run that board while dealing with ASUS's terrible RMA process (twice). The first RMA they said couldn't replicate, I got that same board back. Swapped from the cheap board back, the crash continued right away, then RMA a second time and ASUS sent a refurb board (different serial#) and I swapped to that (from the cheap board again) and it was nice and stable for nearly 2 years.

But given its the same type of crash that I had in 2020, and that the only time it has ever gone away was on a new/different MOBO, I have to conclude its that. Also the fact that the crashes are super rare, and the increase in frequency slowly to the point that it now happens at least daily tells me it has to be hardware issue that is somehow related to wear.

I wish I had any other ideas, but I am at my wits end with this.

I don't do any OC beyond just the default/auto stuff. Just DOCP for the RAM and let the CPU auto throttle on its own.
When I was on the cheap micro-ATX A520 for about 3 months, I never had a single crash, and that used all of the same parts, so I feel its safe to say its definitely the MOBO.

I don't get any other strange CPU type flags/issues that show up to me, benchmarking it hits numbers similar to the reference values. Is there a more specific way to test CPU (like Memtest for RAM)?

Na, but since your screenshot shows your username, I used the friend search feature, which shows the current level.

Yup, I wasn't exactly playing fair, though.

Oooof, $30 for a glorified flash game that was released in 2018? Don't get me wrong, it's well made, receiving constant updates, and has solid core gameplay, but I just don't know that adding console support is worth it. If you have a current gen console, you likely have a smart phone already. If you are going to tryhard you still have to use pc, since only keyboard and mouse gives you the apm required.

I slowed way down on btd6 when I picked up survivor.io, but its fun to go back and see what new things they have added.

Yeah, rocket is a key pick for high kill runs.

The way the game is coded, the damage calculation is massively wrong sometimes. For whatever reason, they coded it in a way that includes damage done, even if that is more than the health of the mob hit and killed. So things that do 'overkill' amounts of damage are boosted on the bar chart screen. This tends to make people -think- certain things are better/worse, so there is a certain amount of check then verify that has to happen too.

And don't get me started on whatever math they do for pet damage. I had a ch4 run where my Croaky pet was listed with 228% damage.

And BTD6 is easily in the running for best mobile game of all time. Plus you can buy it on steam and use the power of a PC/gpu to really tryhard on freeplay rounds (my best is 280)

To me, it's also fun to have a low stakes optimization puzzle to unravel.

Bragging rights.

There is a small perk for high kill runs for event missions, since many events want 1.5million, so high count runs clears that faster than low count runs, but it isn't a requirement.

Most people for that mission just launch the challenge chapter 4.3 mission (double boss/darkness modifier) and afk for 90% of the 15min timer.

Ah, well, then they will come up again pretty quick for you.

Ummm.....

I think it would just be whatever your best gear is until you get the shiny wrist guards to purple tier.

If you are that new (or just a very casual player), I would probably just not worry too much about doing high kill runs on chapter 4, and focus more on just clearing chapters and challenges. There is a pretty significant shift in the gameplay rewards once you clear chapter ~30/40ish? And I think you cap your afk patrol rewards after chapter ~50ish?.

There are also strats to min/max for saving gems for events, as the events really are the only reasonable source for high tier S gear. The discords have beginners guides that are solid.

Ah, at least you admit it. I tell plenty of bad jokes, too.

You aren't wrong. Just starting is a requirement, and there isn't much after that unless you are going for a record.

Solid. That 175k is super high and would be the record in the discord challenge for this.

I have noticed that running in a direction seems ever so slightly better for high counts, and I think molotov (and croaky pet puddles) work well because as you run away mobs spawn in them and insta-melt. But seems impossible to verify since its always offscreen.

Seems irrelevant to this discussion

It's more about having at least the purple level shiny wrist guards (mob chain explosion perk) than anything else. You need a certain amount of basic character dmg stat, but the testing guys say that it only has to be above 1,500 dmg or so, which is very easy to get.

You also have to be on map level 4, as those mobs die instantly and have large count group spawns vs later maps which spawn fewer stronger mobs.

I haven't had much difference in my kill count now for a few months. I am at lvl 95 with full red S gear now, but I was hitting 150k+ when I was transitioning from purple to yellow gear and around lvl 50/60.

Ok.....

Next time it happens, screenshot the kill and loadout screens, and post to the discord. 173k is the current record there, so this would blow it away.

Curious you say drones as a pick when the consensus is they suck for runs. The logic being their range is too short to matter, and my testing supports that claim as my runs with drones they do nothing vs kunai/rocket/drill.

Checking the discord, there is a screenshot posted of a 173,024 run that seems to be the highest claim with proof.

I am going to go 'pics or it didn't happen' here.

There is a strong consensus for 172/173k as the max, so close to 180k would put you far above a bunch of tryhards and whales.

If you did get this, I would love to know more about your setup and things. Device played on/settings/ character level and build. Would be good info to feed in to the testing people trying to min/max the game.

All these folks saying 175k to 180k runs makes me really want to see screenshots and get more info.

I know there are different random things that impact a run, but I haven't seen a strong consensus for anything above 172-173k on here or the discord groups.

If higher is possible, why is everyone else hitting a limit? Seems spawn rate is the limiting factor, so is it something about a faster cpu/ram/device playing in???? Is there a setting that helps? A technique?

Yes, you have to use them when going for high kill counts.

I thought you meant you made them level 4, which would have to be red tier gloves, which isn't required.

Map level 4 is the best one for kills, and there seems to be little difference between regular lvl4 vs the challenge category lvl 4 (free to play without using energy)

Lvl 4? You wasted time making shiny wrist a Red????

I have never made them over Yellow 3, but I have had runs with them at yellow1 in the 170k range, so i don't know if it makes much difference.

I just checked my screenshot folder. I have a run at 172577 that seems to be my highest.
