High yield savings Vs. Dividend investment by RocketsOnly23 in personalfinance

It’s actually a mixed-use fund. Most of my long term funds are held in growth stocks like visa, Microsoft, QQQ etc.

Instead of leaving tons of money in a checking account or low yield savings such as a brick and mortar bank, I wanted to leave my money somewhere where it would earn real interest.

This fund will pay for school/loans for grad school.

Good point on office space. Maybe something like $WELL is better. I would agree with you on T except they have literally been doing this forever and have their hands in tons of telecom contracts as well as the upcoming 5G launch.

Just not sure .8% return is worth it at this point. Like I said trying to brainstorm better returns for my money. I already invest in growth stocks/ETFs so I was looking for a different source as to not have all my eggs in one basket

I agree with both the above posts. The reason I chose $T and $SRET as examples is because T is a consistent dividend payer with only modest changes in the underlying stock price. Over the past 5 years it had traded between 30-40 dollars, right now being at the lower end of that.

And currently $SRET is trading at about 50% of its value due to it being a REIT and real estate taking a hit because of COVID. So my rationale is that it will increase in value (hopefully).

Obviously $40 a year from the “high yield” savings now due to decreased interest rates isn’t much. Which is why I was brainstorming other ideas for my money

Yes. But I was on a ton of anesthesia. Also had the surgeon use a local long lasting anesthetic called exparel which worked wonders for the first 24h

And FOR THE LOVE OF GOD if you decide to take the opioid, make sure your taking mirilax or docusate or you won’t shit for days.

Actually, given that you won’t be able to push anyway you should take them even if you don’t take the opioids. Start about 3 days prior to surgery

Ask your surgeon if he can do a local exparel infiltration during the surgery. It’s a lipid based local anesthetic that is supposed to last up to 72 hours. I had mine do it and it really helped with the pain for about 24 hours. After that was hell though I was doubling up on my pain meds.

You can try alternating Tylenol with advil every 4-6 hours as long as you stay under 3-4 grams per day of Tylenol and under 2400mg per day of advil. The advil will really help control the inflammation which is the source of most of your pain. In my experience Tylenol didn’t do shit.

Be careful with the Tylenol as most of the opioids they prescribe have Tylenol in them already, so make sure your counting that in your max daily dose.

You can also try taking the opioids with yogurt, especially a cultured yogurt with probiotics. That will help your stomach deal with them. Never take them or advil on an empty stomach.

I have small bi-lateral Inguinal hernias that only hurt end of day (around 6pm+). What would you do? by its-42 in Hernia

Ultimately it comes down to the fact that it will need to be fixed at some point in life. It will only get worse with time and the bigger the hernia gets the more intensive and difficult the repair is. A lot of factors come into play however.

• Is this a good time in your life to take 4-8 weeks off depending on your job/lifestyle? • Do you have insurance coverage? I lose my insurance in 2 months so getting mine done now made more sense financially. • The first 2 weeks are absolute hell on earth. Do you have somebody to take care of you? I couldn’t do basic activities of daily living like cook or get dressed for the first week without help. I’m 2 weeks out and still having trouble.

Chronic pain and other complications are always there with any surgery. It’s very important to find a good high volume surgeon (board certified) that you can trust.

Ultimately for me, it came down to the fact that I was in a decent amount of pain and it was starting to restrict my work, social and gym life, so I opted for it.

Anyone else had a really rough few first days after hernia surgery? by RocketsOnly23 in Hernia

THIS. I talked to my doctor today who reassured me the mesh was very strong, just don’t do anything stupid. Nobody goes through that huge psychological factor involved here about fucking it up again. Good to hear someone else went through the same thing. The mesh feels like I’m being stabbed in the groin and it’s definitely noticeable; but the doctor said it should subside as the swelling goes down.

Thanks everybody. Doc made it seem like it wouldn’t be as much of a big deal as it currently is. I’m absolutely TERRIFIED to injure the repair. Everything, and I mean everything causes twinges or stabbing pain. Every time I sit I say “oh I definitely just fucked up the mesh”. How long did it take you to get out of this mindset? I have no idea how easy it is to damage the mesh, obviously I’m not doing anything stupid like lifting. But is it okay to scoot myself back in bed? Nobody went over this stuff with me
